Black Start Crisis : Rebuild 2021 Dec 17-19

Legion Airsoft attended this event and these are a few videos from those 2 days played.
Honest review:
Disappointed… as much as I wanted to love this event. It was plagued by issues.
Player count was low and for a building of this size finding a target can easily feel like (needle in a haystack).
Covid, weather , high ticket price this close to Christmas played a factor.
The staff at Theta were all very friendly and made it clear they wanted all of us to have a good time.. Some of the issues were of there control but some were not.
The biggest issue was lighting… pre game videos and pics show the buildings lighted… due to a fuss panel blowing. A large area was dark, by mid day on Saturday after another fuss blowing everything was dark.
To add to this … it had been rumored that Green and Civilian had joined forces to fight Blackops…a small team designed to balance out the game and annoy you during the briefing.. mission accomplished boys!
All at once the few fire fights we were having all but stopped…Blackops small force was easily beaten and over half the team hung out in the parking lot playing on their phones.
We reignited our fight with Green but at this point in total darkness at 2pm the game had breathed its last breath… most of the players seemed either bored , confused or frustrated.
That is when as a group we decided to salvage the rest of our weekend and call it a day.
For whoever started the rumor you ruined the experience for the players who paid $125-$150 a ticket…
The owner of the building… your facility is not ready to hold games at this time. Fix the lighting! Not get a box of replacement fusses but actually fix the lighting issue.
Theta:
Everyone there were all likable people.. it would have been another story if they were all assholes and came across like they didn’t care. I do feel that they as a group do want players to have a great time. I have no doubt about that. They also held to the time schedule really well.. I was very pleased with that as I have been apart of events that were allowed to be hours behind.
As for suggestions:
Overall game play and missions, goals to be achieved… were very poorly designed and executed..It felt lazy and half way done. If you were there just to shoot the other team, that takes no explanation and you could do that. You can do that anywhere.
We completed a few missions that offered no sense of completion.. why did we need to do what we did? How did it shape the game? Nothing was really explained and I do appreciate getting through the briefing quickly so we can play but a lot of details were left out.. 300lbs of props none of which we had any idea what to do with. Unfortunately I’ve been a part of well orchestrated games and this was not one of them.
So I’m not going to criticize without offering suggestions to make it better.
Audio- get a speaker to communicate with the players. I need…we need to hear you, not the other players who think their one liners are so hilarious and everyone needs to hear them. If your reading this and wonder is Toolman talking about me? Yes I am… your an unneeded distraction and just because people laugh it doesn’t mean there laughing with you. Shut your mouth and let’s get to the reason we’re all here.

Missions - missions felt like eating a salad… not alot to it. We as players need a steak. We need to feel the importance of what we are trying to do. Example: go take these blinky pucks to the basement and stick them on a pole. Or : we’re going to build something to give us an advantage. I need you to go to this location and retrieve this part and bring it back, but it doesn’t stop there.. the opposition knows your going to this location and is now sending a team to stop you.
Not leaving this encounter to chance but orchestrating it to happen. The whole game needs to be somewhat scripted and the teams fill in the blanks.
So maybe you agree maybe you don’t and either is ok and I want your opinion good or bad… you have suggestions? Let’s hear them. In the end our goal is to further airsoft and hurt it. So let’s all make the game better.

As someone from the black ops team, I really enjoyed the event. I know that it was hard to find enemies but for us it was easier. Shoot everyone! As for our team in the parking lot I know that was because of a lunch break. with 13 people it tanked our number. Obj was impossible to find especially with foggy goggles from the rain. Best parts were when we got out of spawn and became ghosts hunter you guys. I hope to play with you again it was a blast.

Hey tool man. You a plumber? I a HVAC tech. Myself. Just wondering if you could show us your camera setup. Do you record the whole time or just during engagements. How long does your batteries last on camera. Also do you record in 4k or 1080? I am just getting into recording our skirmishes. Thanks for sharing the working man's adventures.

Sorry I totally missed your question. I’m a carpenter.. my set up at that time was a GoPro 9. I ran it on 1080 at 120. I don’t record all the way through just because it’s so much dead time it would take forever to go through it all. So I hit record when I respawn or think I’m about to get into something

Area looks awesome but number of player really ruins the idea of the event for me looks like you spend more time looking for a player to shoot at then actually engaged in a firefight i get more of a group of friends found an abandoned factory in the middle of nowhere and decided to shoot each other there than a organized event

70+ players attended… covid knocked out 20 of the 90+ paid. Even at that this place was so big you could have fit 200 in there. But yea a lot of walking around searching for people… I videoed all day and night before and got 6 minutes of game play.. Jan 28 another game will be held there… we plan to attend that so we’ll see if increased player count helps. There at 100 so far with over a month to go.
