Black Sabbath - LIVE - November 16, 1969 - Dumfries, Scotland - FULL CONCERT
Музыка
RARE audio of Black Sabbath live at Rugman’s Youth Club, Dumfries, Scotland - audio originally recorded by Iron Claw member Alex Wilson.
PLEASE NOTE: To be clear - I did not leak this concert. As far as I can tell, a user on a website called Dime called rhece6 is responsible for its leak. If asked to remove, I will comply.
Taper Alex Wilson of Iron Claw noted:
"The original tape was recorded on a Grundig reel to reel at 3 and 3/4 ips. I used to record every Amplified Heat show, so my equipment was there. Towards the end of the ’70s , the tape began to fall apart. God knows when the original tape used was manufactured! But I did manage to transfer the recording to another reel to reel. Sabbath played two sets that night, but I was so gobsmacked that I didn’t record the first set!…
I spoke to the band after the show when they were packing their gear into their old Transit. I asked Tony why he had left Jethro Tull after even being on Top Of The Pops. TOTP was the ultimate pinnacle in those days, for you knew you’d arrived if you got on it. He told me he’d “rather play with my mates. Jethro Tull are weird!” I can also remember my flared trousers flapping in the wind from the volume of the show when I was standing in front of the stage! I met the band another three times in the very early ’70s and they always remembered the times they played in Dumfries."
Tracklist:
1. Black Sabbath
2. Let Me Love You Baby
3. Song For Jim/Drum Solo/Reprise

7. Early One Morning (Elmore James Cover)
8. N.I.B.
9. Blue Blooded Man

This is why I love the Internet. It's been years since I've heard any 'new' old Sabbath. It's been stashed away and forgotten but thankfully, people are becoming more savvy and sharing gold like this. Thank you for the upload.

Out of interest, the equipment Sabbath were using then was a 60 watt Laney amp each (Geezer and Tony) driving two 4x12" cabs each (ie one stack each). It was so loud and clear I couldn't believe they were 60 watts but that's what they told me! Ozzy sang through a 100 watt Vox PA amp driving two Vox 6x8" columns! Bill was using one bass drum, one floor tom and one hanging tom! (Note the lack of effing and blinding from Ozzy in those days, he was a nice lad and it was a Youth Club!)

+Alex Wilson Hi Alex, you did a great job in taping this show! Thanks so much for that! A lot of rumours are now going around. Maybe you can clarify, verify, falsify, or correct some of them? Here's what's said (not just by stupid people, but also by some well-respected collectors): 1.) The most popular rumour says that you guaranteed to the Osbournes that you never shared, and would never share, your recording to anything else; and that accordingly now, since the recording is all over the internet, you will get into big trouble (which I seriously hope is NOT true!). (This is claimed by some people as a justification why they never shared the Dumfries recording.) 2.) Other rumours say that you taped the complete 2 sets, and thus what has just surfaced is not all your recorded. 3.) Yet others claim that you also recorded 2 or 3 more Sabbath gigs in Dumfries. Is that true, and if yes: can you give the dates (write me a PM if you prefer that)? Any comments of yours would really be appreciated! It seems that a lot of bullshit is talked about this recording, and has been talked for 10 years. Maybe you can help us to sort it out. All the best from here!

+Linda B. Number 3 first - this is the only show of Sabbath in Dumfries I ever recorded.Number 2 - I didn't tape the complete nightNumber 1 - I didn't release this recording to the internet and I have no idea who did, the Osbournes bought the original tape off me and I witnessed at least 5 copies being transferred to CD in a London recording studio that day ..... This was 10 years ago roughly and during that time I have had several enquiries to get a copy but I couldn't do that as the recording had been sold...... I repeat I have NO IDEA who by or how this has got out onto the internet after 10 years......

+Alex Wilson No idea how this got leaked either - but, thank you for recording this concert. This is truly an amazing concert. I may be incorrect in saying this, but was this concert what inspired you to start Iron Claw?

+Alex Wilson : Alex, do you recall what Sabbath played in their first set? I know it was a long time ago. :-) Some possibilities, according to Jim Simpson, were a cover of Jimmy Rushing's "Evenin'," a cover of T-Bone Walkers "Storm Monday" and "Fairies Wear Boots" (which was written and performed early on).

No, what inspired me was seeing Led Zeppelin on their first tour, but Sabbath gave me the inspiration to start writing my own music.
This is bloody great!!! Long at live last, Sabbath 1969!!!
Probably the first ever live recording of Black Sabbath. Recorded by Alan Wilson, of pioneer band Iron Claw. Check out that band. They were definitely the first band to follow in Sabbath's metal/doom template.

That's what I'm thinking too!!~~~
Good to hear Tony's bluesy guitar work. Incidentally, the premises where this was recorded still exists on Whitesands in Dumfries. There is a cafe there with tables outside in hd courtyard as well as inside.
Sounds like a young and promising band... Black Sabbath you said, have talent. :=)
OMG what an insight. This is worth it's weight in Gold - Love it. Glad things like this get uploaded...... Thanks

Alex: HUGE thanks for recording this!! It boggles my mind that there are so few early recordings of them during their transition period, while they were still doing classic blues covers (and what a great blues band they were). This is a gift!!

Wow tony on flute and some very rare tracks thanks
This is a much more urgent Sabbath than anything I have seen live when I have seen them.
What's interesting is that they recorded their first Black Sabbath album on October 16th, 1969. This concert is from exactly ONE month after that recording session, so you're hearing them performing the same songs from the first album, but being even more comfortable and skilled at playing them. It would have been cool if they recorded these other cover songs in the same studio session and released them as B-Sides.
@karenpato1

When they recorded their first album....they went in there with the attitude of "let's just perform our set"...with the exception of Ozzy Osbourne singing in another room. A few slight tweaks and boom done.
Freakin awesome!!!
Absolutely unbelievable. It's hard to believe this is from 1969. There is absolutely nothing else like this from this era. The only two things that come close are Pentagram's Bias Studio Recordings, which were recorded four years later, and Randy Holden's Population II, which was also 1969 and was as equally heavy, but an entirely different beast. Just incredible.
@Danimal77

There's A LOT MORE Pentagram bootlegs out there, such as demos and live and studio rehearsals from 1971-1973, as well as from Bedemon (from 1973) some Stone Bunny from 1970, both with the same lead singer from Pentagram. There's OLD Judas Priest recordings from 1971-1973 (both live and studio), as well as PRE-Judas Priest from members of the band, old ELF recordings (Ronnie James Dio's old band) dating back from 1957 to the early 70's. There's old Budgie recordings from the early 70's (some even with Judas Priest jamming with them), we have OLD Blue Oyster Cult recordings (both live and studio) from before they were even called Blue Oyster Cult, from 1970. They were called The Stalk-Forrest Group (under Elektra Recordings). We also have PRE-Sabbath live recordings with Iommi and Ward when they were in a band called Mythology in 1968. We have PRE-AC/DC live recordings from 1973 (With Angus and Malcolm). My God, I haven't even scratched the surface. If youtube is your only source, I highly suggest you dig around further. Try guitars101.com for starters.

When you say pentagram, are you refer to Child of Darkness?
I've noticed that with Wicked World on this set and the one on the Past Lives CD, they have a little bridge before the solo that wasn't on the album but it sounds great; great showing of great Black Sabbath was as a live band
This might go viral, i had heard of this recording many years ago - and now i believe it.
song 2 - let me love you baby and song 9 - blue blooded man are probably the rarest of all Sabbath gems

Victor Brox is still a fine musician and its great to finally hear the live set of the early Sabbath including Warning!
I don't know how you got this but I love it
wow greatest band fucking ever
I saw black sabbath in 2013, it was amazing but this is new level the early days.
Wow, God bless you...Iommi on flute ! He played a bit a of flute on LP's...(no wonder why Jethro Tull wanted him...just guessing)...This recording is so great and historical.

Siresounds+ mr. Iommi has been playing the flute since a kid. Everybody and Jethro Tull wanted him .. he was a young hotshot back then. But his love for Tony / geezer blew J.Tull away.
This rules all that which is cool… ☮🔥
The first live performance of NIB ever!!!
ace .many thanks for posting. SABBATH SABBATH SABBATH...................
Man, I love the stories of yesteryear about the bands that I love and listen to
FYI: the eighth song is actually called "Blue Coat Man" and it's a cover of an old Eddie Boyd song from 1952 (which he redid with Peter Green, John McVie and Aynsley Dunbar in 1967).

@@timanderson5342 I think he was referring to how Black Sabbath remembered to keep their kind of jam for the 3rd album. After all, the riffs shared similarities.
Initially, on listening to the first few tracks, thought this sounded like a dodgy recording of the album played over PA speakers. On listening to the whole recording I realised it is live, wow, I wish I could have been there, bet it was an amazing gig!!
