This song tells a story about a man that had the ability to time-travel. He travels to the future and sees a robot invasion. He returns back to the present, but is turned to steel in a magnetic field. He tries to warn the people in the city but they don’t believe him. He becomes furious and slaughters all the people he tried to warn. He didn’t realize that the robot that was causing the mass extinction was him all along until it was to late.

Fun fact to those who didn't know. During the creation of this song Black Sabbath actually had no idea there was a comic book character named Iron Man.

@@VeggiePower303 yeah the 70s had some pretty good music. Today’s music with the rock and metal genre isn’t entirely broken though. There are some pretty good modern rock/metal bands around today, for example: Avenged Sevenfold, Mudvayne, Linkin Park, KoЯn, Messugah, Disturbed,System Of A Down, Pantera, Cannibal Corpse, Hell, Spineshank, In Flames, Dethklok, Slipknot, Municipal Waste, Exhorder, Trivium, etc, Today’s music isn’t that bad, you just gotta know where to look.

Tony Iommi's guitar matched so well with Bill Ward's frantic drumming in Ironman. In the end I think Bill Ward deserves the most respect for this song. The lyrics are so basic but Sabbath was years ahead with their instrumental play and rhythm construction. Some times I feel like I was born to late ☺

When I listen to this song, I personally think about a war veteran with some kind of metal prosthesis ("Iron Man"), abandoned by the society he helped save on account of his disability. In the end of the song, his revenge is something like opening fire on civilians in a square.

A future warrior who got thrown through time was turned into an Iron man due to his armor fusing with his skin due to the sheer metalic force of his travel. He was thrown in by an enemy who he killed before he was taken by the field. When he tries to warn the world they lock him away, and he goes mad because of the impending doom. The weaponry combines with his body and he becomes unstoppable. The final 50 seconds is him about to destroy the last bastions of humanity, who play their last song as a reminder to remember their mistakes. But, like a knight in shining Armour, a Warrior arrives to battle the Iron Man, The warrior being himself. He tries to reason with his past self as he realizes he caused all the pain and devastation from his, and this world. As they clash with their weapons, he is slowly disintegrated by the sheer heat and force of his own weaponry, and he uses a metallic field to try and stop his impending doom, but opens a rift through time. The last thing the Iron man sees the Warrior, turning into an Iron man.
