I couldn't stand Ozzy - his voice, behavior, etc... so when Ronnie joined i was hopeful that Sabbath would be a band that i would like but surprisingly as it turned out they became my favorite band of all-time. I became a full-fledged Sabbath fanatic, saw them whenever they came to NY, bought all their merchadise and listened to them constantly. Ronnie's voice live was just as good as the albums and he gave some of the best performaces i have ever seen in heavy metal. And Iommi's solos were better than anything i had ever heard him do previously particularly on "Lonely is the Word" his best solo ever. Great stuff... thanks for the upload!

You are not alone, there are DIO era only fans in good amounts.
Sign of the Southern Cross is a brilliant track, and anthemic, no matter which version of the band you like best, or to come from ANY band. Its up there with For Those About To Rock, Hotel California, Freebird, etc, but because its metal, it doesnt seem to get that same recognition
Honestly, the Dio Sabbath is my favorite incarnation of the band. This album is one of the top three albums Sabbath did.
For me, Dio was the gateway to Sabbath. I think it has definitely held up (the Dio era). And I dont care if I am in the minority here but his treatment of the older songs was perfect. He added character and definite drama that made the songs seem like warnings, threats, and with Paranoid, a true mental breakdown . Will never forget the shows I saw on The Mob Rules and Dehumanizer tours. Epic.
Sabbath with Ozzy is like a garage band in compare to Sabbath with Dio.

Not true for over half of the Ozzy sabbath stuff.
Heaven and Hell is a great album, but it's so apparent to me that Mob Rules is better. H&H seems like the prototype to me, then MR comes along and does everything better. Sure, I miss Bill's drumming, but H&H just leans relatively more "generic" in feel- compared to what's on MR, it doesn't seem as uniquely "Black Sabbath"

Don't forget about Dehumanizer, I like that one even more than Mob Rules!
Ok documentary but they should have went into more detail on Bill Ward leaving snd if he actually played sny shows before Vinny got there

He did do some shows on the beginning of the H and H Tour. He left because of his father was gravely ill, he had a major alcohol problem and hated playing without Ozzy.
The more I’ve listened to Mob Rules, I think it’s better than Heaven and Hell.
The big mistake IMO that they made was doing Ozzy era songs live with Dio. They’re awful sounding and Dio eventually admitted he hated singing them.

In their defence, they kinda had to. At the time they only had the 8 songs from Heaven & Hell, if they do only those 8 songs, that’s a short concert and a big ripoff to fans that paid to see the concert. Also Sabbath fans expect to hear Iron Man, Paranoid, War Pigs etc. In my opinion I think Dio does a great job on N.I.B.

I think the final nail in the coffin was “Live Evil” - to me, performing the Ozzy era Sabbath was a huge turn off and mistake. As Ozzy did with “Speak of the Devil” - sounded horrible (and his singing was so overdubbed)… they both should’ve left it alone. Remember when Ozzy used to have that dwarf come out onto the stage representing (or making fun of) Dio ? I wasn’t a huge fan of “Mob Rules” but “Heaven and Hell” was a masterpiece.

That’s what happens when you just sing riffs, screws it for other people coming in who can actually sing.
This doc bashes the greatest rock/ metal vocalist of all time far too much. Dio never TRIED to be Ozzy. Iommi wrote completely different music, playing to Ronnie’s strengths. The four Dio sabbath albums are classics. Add to this, the Devil you Know, featuring the same lineup, and you have a sonic tour de force that very few musicians can hold a candle to.. stop the Dio bashing, you guys!
No one could ever replace ozzy. He touches my soul.

The dip kyeica and songs r good but I don't luke dio. Too much anger and ego. Tont Martin was way better and amazing songs and lyrics. Far better rhan Dip. Ozzy was good for his own songs.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is the best Sabbath album. It is more progressive and varied than Heaven and Hell in it's scope musically. So I don't agree with Malcolm Dome's statement that Heaven and Hell is the best MUSICAL work that Sabbath ever did. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is their most adventurous and artistic record.
