The cool thing about this guy ranking the Black Sabbath albums is that he, unlike some of the older reviewers, is free from the "I was there when it was released" bias

@@swampcrypt I think our definition of heavy metal may differ. To me what Toni Iommi and his hired guns did in the 80s/90s is no better than any overproduced commercial made-for-airplay hard rock (glam/hair/FM metal) of the era. (If you read his autobiography, it is clear he did not put as much love in what he produced in those days than coke in his nostrils.) It his not worse than what others did at the time, but it has no special flavor or personality. You could mistake it for Dokken or any other in that category. I think e.g. Ozzy did far better as to retain some personality in what seems to me a very bland era. Many many bands, but all doing the same power ballads with too much reverb. I lived through this and did not like it. I seem to notice that younger people (not even born at the time) like this style and period. There surely is an explanation. And it is good, each one gets his own. But hearing Glenn Hughes (and clones) clean vocals and echo-drowned drums still make my skin crawl. It would sure take me a lot to listen carefuly to all that 😉

I struggle between the Tony Martin era and the Dio albums. I think overall, I like more songs from the Martin era, but I'm just so partial to Dio. Both eras have great songs and I think they actually have a lot in common in terms of their sound, much more so than the Ozzy eras. I don't really like the Headless Crosses album but everything else from Martin is pure gold.

Master of Reality 15??????? That album is the heaviest, relentless, repentless, mean, creepy------basically influenced those later to play death metal. I was scared of it as a kid, meaning, in the 70s. The riffs are nearly dead and intentionally without emotion. It is pure doom, and made the other rock and roll bands at the time seem like tap dancers. Aside from War pigs and Paranoid (way overplayed), in the 80s and 90s, hardcore, thrash and death metal band covers all came from Master.

Two of my favorite pastimes are listening to Black Sabbath, watching KZread videos ranking their albums. Definitely a different list than mine, and different than usual, but you're obviously a true fan. I am glad to see Never Say Die and Technical Ecstasy at the back of the pack. It seems to have become trendy to love those albums, and while they both have a couple good tracks, there is far greater Sabbath material out there. This is the second video I have seen lately that ranks Heaven and Hell as number one. I am bigger on a few of the earlier albums, but I'm all in on Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Dehumanizer, and Born Again. I will have to revisit a few of the others with the exception of Forbidden.

You should do a ranking of some of the early 70's obscure proto metal groups such as, Christopher, Leaf Hound, Bang, Dust, Lucifers Friend, Zior, Sir Lord Baltimore, Variations, May Blitz, The Third Power, Sex, Captain Beyond, Jericho, Buffalo, Tin House, Thunder And Rose's, Granicus, Message, Gift...and on and on. THESE are just a few bands that were overshadowed by Black Sabbath but were extremely crucial and influential to most of the metal acts that came after. These bands put out some amazing records...if people only knew.

Some of your rankings may be viewed as weird by some (including me). But I surely respect your passion. Gotta say that putting Master Of Reality near the end (my fave from them) with Paranoid in the middle of the pack, behind some albums people would have thrown at the bottom, it's hurting, but also bold. Seems like you're more of a fan of Dio/Martin years, the more "epic" albums, than the more "doomy" ones with Ozzy.

Good list dude...Oz era is important & influential but all the subsequent eras of vocalist have a more solid albums under the Sabbath banner. 😎Heaven & Hell is the definitive Sab album of all time. TYR deserves the love you put on the high ranking. Great list from the usual 🤗

Interesting list! Didn't expect to see the first six albums so low, but it is indeed refreshing to see a list like this. I love those albums, but I feel that people are a little too biased against the albums from Born Again to Forbidden. Headless Cross, thankfully, does seems to be gettting some recognition lately, but I don't understand why the same people rank TYR way lower, when it is fairly similar in sound to HC. In fact, something in your list where I totally agree is that TYR is actually the better album. Sure, the first three tracks on HC are amazing, but I feel it kind of loses steam until Nighwing, while TYR is just more solid and full of epic tracks. Also, might want to check the new remix of Forbidden, it really does make the album a lot better.

Sabbath is pretty tough to rank for me. I love the 70s (first 6) and the 80s era for different reasons. My bottom 5 is 19. Never Say Die 18. 13 17. Technical Ecstasy 16. Born Again 15. Forbidden After that it gets pretty hard, depends on my mood. I'd say overall I prefer the Tony Martin and Dio eras over everything else, but Seventh Star is also among my favorites.. Yeah, it's probably a good thing I don't have a youtube channel, I could never put together a list I'd be happy with 😂

Oddest Sabbath list I have seen but that's why I like watching this stuff. Variety is the spice of life. Good to see Dehumanizer and Tyr get some love. Very underrated. I see 13 was really low and usually is on most list's. Listen to the best buy exclusive with the extra 4 songs. They actually have more of a Dio era vibe.
