They say they're already done writing almost half of their 3rd record before their 2nd is even out and their new stuff is as good or better than their best material so far. They have so much potential for so many more amazing albums and I'm so glad there's a new band this good out there that's so dedicated to their craft.

The term "late capitalism" was coined by Werner Sombart around 1900. Don't think it has a soundtrack considering this death rattle has been forecasted (at least according to communists) for the past 122 years. Although a Marxist for most of this career, Sombart affiliated with Nazism in the 1930s due to his deep anti-Semitism...it was just another form of socialism after all. You should probably find a better term.

This style isn't exactly my favorite, but that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge that there's something spectacular going on here. They're so close to catastrophe, yet contained. I credit the drummer; if they had a lesser rhythm section, they'd fall apart faster than my high school relationships. Well done, boys.

I stumbled upon this during the summer of 2019 just after graduating university. Coincidentally they were playing in my city the very next day and I got a ticket. It was absolutely one of the best gigs I've been to in my life. Better times....

@@gdavis9296 Try bands like Henry Cow or This Heat. Both from the UK as well. Faust from Germany is also in this ballpark. Pere Ubu from the US. black midi sound very inspired by all these bands who originally around in the 70's.

This is some kind of magick. I've been listening to their album where they sound so old, so confident and this is my first time seeing them and christ, they are about 8? It's like they've tapped into some ancient channels. Of course they haven't, they're just supremely talented and hard working and I love them.

Legendary performance. When Schlagenheim came out, it was a game changer for me. I'm gonna see them in Primavera soon, I'm waiting for it since 2019! Can't wait.

Did you see them at Primavera? I was there too. Can't say the moshpit was the best ever, too many drunk idiots, Lightning Bolt and Idles had 10000 times better moshpits, but the black midi set was cacophanously great. Mix wasn't amazing - sax and keyboard were super low on the mix, could hardly hear them sometimes. Still a great time, I'll try to catch them in London next month.

@@el_mal_de_ojo and yes the Lightning Bolt show was incredible! I did my first crowd surfing there and also met them both after the show. I missed the Idles show unfortunately, saw gorillaz and Tyler instead

As a dude that that grew up in the 90s post hardcore/mathrock/noise scenes, it makes me so happy indeed to see some kids doing music like this FINALLY. Just goes to show cool skips a generation :P

@@olasmcc7266 the 90s had a lot of math rock too. Slint, hella, lightning bolt, capn jazz, and lots of others. The 90s were like the years that math rock was being crafted and then it bubbled up in the 2000s and hit it's golden age.

God it's so rare nowadays to come across new music that actually makes you feel excited and inspired, but this just did both

953 went hard. One of the best album openers in recent memory

It sounds like chaos. Then you start to realize it's carefully orchestrated and coordinated chaos.

They're like The Shaggs except they know what they're doing

@@combustinghandshakes8617 that is the thing. i think "this" is in fact... the pure sonic energy or creative sound invention, uninhibited by past constructs and expectations of what music should sound like. that is why their more downtempo or cleaner songs are still just as kickass. post-rocking so hard you wanna call it post-rock revival.

Basically more punk less pop, not hating on poppy music but I think it’s too prevalent these days as it’s bled into so many different genres. Good thing the internet and streaming age is allowing a platform for bands like Black Midi

The singer is like David Bryne and Ian Curtis were put in a twink’s body with Ozzy Osborne’s voice

One of the wildest moshes that you’ll ever have a part in is at their performances, heed my words and buy tickets to the next show of theirs that’s close to you

Think they're not streaming on purpose. I think these guys care about music, not so much the fucked industry behind it.

I absolutely LOVE this. I don't know if they are familiar with King Crimson's Larks' Tongues in Aspic and Discipline, but I can see how those albums could be influential here

So I've watched this maybe, a 100 times at least. Not kidding. Always when it hits 22:59 I play back that drum fill at least 5 times. I mean If there was something like a Grammy's for drum-fills this one would've fucking taken it.

This is something else -- fucking phenomenal. Reminds me of: '80s King Crimson, DNA (or other No-Wave bands), Sonic Youth, the Jesus Lizard, and a lot of Mission of Burma. And, increasingly, This Heat.

Lot of This Heat influence popping up these days for some reason. Some Preoccupations and Palm songs remind me of This Heat, too. Anyway, this band is great.

That bass players vocals around the 1:30 mark were actually fucking amazing

String Traveler well I guess that the one thing that is constant is that they are usually in time and when they aren’t it’s for artistic choice. And they usually stay in the same key somewhat

YES YES YES YES YES FINALLY a digitized performance. They blew me a way live..best supporting band I've seen in the past two years. It's like Fugazi meets Talking Heads meets Drive Like Jehu meets Duster but completely original. Appreciate that 2019 has some kids making music like this.

These young men are like a young Quentin Tarantino directing Reservoir Dogs: So confident doing high level work as they had been in the business for long

This is so fucking good. Some of the most exciting music I've heard in a long time. Reminds me of Fugazi meets At The Drive In. Fucking epic.

Really surprised nobody is bringing up unwound when trying to find sound parallels! I don't think its necessary to find those parallels though, they're a super unique group and I'm real excited for their album next month!

Hella and Slint vibes...very cool very clean EDIT: also that drummer is really good

Incredible. Their age, their talent, their energy. The guitarist screeches like Jim Morrison which is tight as shit. The drummer is a god. So experimental.

The guitarist/vocalist reminded me a lot of Adrian Belew during his time with King Crimson

Dude's with blue shirt style of vocals reminds me a bit of Adrian Belew way back during his days in King Crimson

A bunch of hot angry angsty artsy men exorcizing demons with terrific musical synergy

Wow, watching them play makes you realise just how talented they are musically. The drummer especially is amazing.
