    A black man from Africa here, this is so true, never seen my dad so much as shed a tear, or say something was delicious. We are proud of that, but the downside is that, much of our emotions then manifest themselves in anger- which is, in my opinion, worse than crying in public.

    One time I was 6-7 I tried to run from a fight was crying and shit. My mom locked the door acted like she ain’t hear me. I never ran again and I learned nobody cares about my tears.

    Crying will make a person look weak. If you can't bear it walk out and cry under a tree, the only person who has permission to see you cry, is your missus, ie if you don't marry a horrible person.

    And that's some of the weight that we put on the shoulders of our Black men. It's an emotion that EVERYONE has. Every race, every culture, every nationality...male and female. We all have that emotion. So why does a Black man look weak when he acts on that emotion? I would not view a man any less of a man if I were to see him cry. It's a shame that we do that to our Black Men😟

    @@StrongnBeautiful Not denying your experience, I've seen my mother cry and encourage me to do so privately. My father has told to avoid crying altogether (even though I've see him cry). You are completely right, the teaching starts in home but our parents are also often pressured by social expectations and traditions (not all obviously, but enough to be a problem).
