"A Dallas man who was beaten by officers while being arrested in a case of mistaken identity is suing the city for the cops’ use of excessive force. The man, named Silvester Hayes, was pulled over and informed police that he had a legally owned handgun in his car."

I spent 25 years in law enforcement. My first year as a Sergeant, 10 years into my career, I was pulled over by a neighboring agency, because I had no plates on my BMW (legal sticker was in the window as prescribed by law). As the Caucasian officers approached, I advised them that I was law enforcement and that my firearm was in my center console. This advisement resulted in me being proned out on the ground at gunpoint and cursed at during what turned into a felony stop. Long story short, all they heard was "gun in console" (they missed the cop part), and saw a large black man, so I immediately became a threat. They claimed they were in fear of their lives and that I seemed aggressive. No, discipline for them and dirty clothes and humiliation for me. I had even be in training courses with those two bigoted clowns. I guess they taught me... Bigotry and Hatred runs deep in police agencies, because of the power and authority they wield...

If he was applying to be a cop why he's acting that way? he should had known better, he was carrying his gun by his side, visible, turned the traffic stop into a felony traffic stop, because 99% of those ppl that carry guns like that aren't selling cakes, , why would he be terrified because he was asked to step out of his car? it wasn't for that much , the cops did f up for trying to cover their f up with lies, both sides were wrong.

In this case didn't help that he had his gun visible, even cops have been shot by other cops because of this, how things are these days, a visible gun makes a traffic stop a felony stop, doesn't matter if is legal, doesn't matter if he is 007 or captain America, it is fked up what happened to him , I've gone through the same thing, I have step out off the vehicle and kept myself calmed , i always have all my docs ready some on my phone and my social security card always on me , but not having weapons visible has helped a lot, not even when i was working as a bonded fed officer I carried that thing by my side, hell no, weapons create more problems that what they solve, the cops were wrong for trying to patch up their f up with lies, and he was wrong too for carrying his gun on that manner ... which cop will just start casual conversation when he sees a gun and doesn't know who you are? None...

That first cop should be fired for the gun alert not given to other cops! They should have told him why they were pulling him out of the car! They should have CHECKED his license! I hope because of this incident that he DOES become a cop! We need people like him on the force because he has seen it at its worst. He can make it better.

We will not be silent about innocent men, women & children being beaten, terrorized & killed legally by bullies. Its sad, but U may be right about 1 thing, it may never change.

Please, please, please... Keep exposing these amateurs. These are not police officers ... They are bad actors. This black man was kidnapped and abused by a bunch of city thugs. Dallas Police Department cannot even properly identify a wanted person and/or follow proper procedures. Too many people wrongly in positions of power are quick to forget the rules and strip away the rights of free and legal citizens ... Especially when dealing with people that look different than themselves. The system is so damaged. All parties involved should be arrested. Who knows what other mistakes they've been making.

The REAL sickening and horrifying thing about this, apart from the the disgusting way this MAN was treated, is that none of the cops involved will give a shit. None of them will be disciplined or face charges. None of them will be a penny out of pocket, and none of them will have lost a moments sleep, they will all be down at the local (cops) bar whooping and high fiving each other for being absolete heroes explaining to others there has to be casualties of the war against crime, regardless of wether there was any crime to begin with.

You're right. For bad cops, the cops like those in this video, protecting the public and upholding the law is NOT what is important to them. What is important to cops LIKE THESE is sticking together, being a legalized street gang...harming people and taking away their rights and NOT caring AT ALL if they mistreated an innocent person. I hope this story gets more coverage and forces these disgusting gang cops into the spotlight.
