    HAH!! Exactly...United Arab Emirates: I know who they are in this soap opera but I had a blank spot the other day. I was watching a commercial and Jennifer Anniston was doing a commercial for Emmerites Airlines. She never or I hardly ever see her do commercials. It was just one of those weird things that just didnt sit right. Isnt that airline owned by Saudi Arabia? It didnt sit right, weird.

    My take away is that people are 90% the same but the rest of the 10% really start defining who we are, in a lot of ways. This is why all the contestants were equally picking off the answers throughout the game show and why, when it came to Final Black Jeopardy, Doug was clearly going to lose and the host and other contestants clearly took issue with it. Black people feel marginalized and the single white guy couldn't see it from this perspective. But, I definitely agree with you that this was hilarious and ballsy.

    David Lor Let me ask you something. Since the installment (or election) of the countless black aldermen/women in the black neighborhoods, how much better have those neighborhoods fared economically, safety, and crime wise? Was there the improvement that was supposed to have been seen? I havent seen it. It just looks to me that the only blacks that had an improvement were those elected and their own inner circles. The rest stayed the same.

    David Lor your comment just goes back to Berk's original point that people are actually separated by class and not by race.... If a black person feels marginalized it is largely because of some notion instilled into them from this idea of being part of a "black community" that is separate from the mainstream American culture at large. The political class both fosters and utilizes this exactly so that it can create the conditions where we believe ourselves, as a society, to be separated by race. So in a way we really are separated by race, at least apparently, but this separation is artificial and contrived having been created so that we don't become wise to the fact that it is only class that is separating us, naturally, in truth, in our so-called "classless society". This is why working class people of all races intuitively understand that the game is rigged and they are being conspired against. The real conspiracy is, of course, nothing like they imagine, but what they imagine has been fueled by the unconscious awareness of what is really happening to them.

It's not lost on us down here that whenever someone wants to portray a racist they immediately dawn a terrible southern accent but what's funny is all these hate crimes, police shootings and etc seem to be taking place in primarily non-southern areas..... more often than not they're in Democrat/Leftist controlled areas. wow, who wrote this sketch? it was about 90% on point - people aren't as different as they think, but then identity politics comes along and ruins everything

  • @kevinr417

    @kevinr417

    Charles S I think that's the point. They liked Doug just fine until this particular political movement came up, and then they suddenly realized that they couldn't get along with him because of their physical differences. And Doug's opinion on the matter was considered irrelevent because of these differences. It's satire in this case, making the ridiculousness of the movement apparent. So I don't think the ending ruined the sketch, but it is a bit of a downer to get hit with that dose of reality. Personally, I don't want to see any innocent person killed, no matter who they are. And I think cops need to be held accountable for their actions, because some of them have been getting away with a lot. At the same time, they need to be able to do their jobs, and be allowed to protect themselves when criminals attack them, using their guns if necessary. I think that cops should be provided with non-lethal means of incapacitating a person though, so fewer people are shot. Reforms need to be made, but creating racial tension helps no one. Just my two cents.

    kinda missed the point at the end.. but you got 90% of it. which is starting to understand? Both of them didn't get the other. He was a little scared and they were trying to be welcoming. miss that part? with the hug right. Even though they did all that for the guy in it sadly enough they knew he just wouldn't understand lives matter. He couldn't see it. They were bridging the divide while the knew he probably couldn't. Even so... they were still nice to him. Neither were evil they were just all people. identity politics depending on the kind isn't evil either. If you're in the south in the 50s under jim crow trust me you want it to stop. IF you're a slave you'd like to be free. Bad identity politics results in harm to someone else example If you're in Germany in the nazi party. You don't want to be better together as a nation you want to "clean" it of people who don't look and act like you. The black lives matter movement never asked for the death of anyone nationally and when activist did get out of hand they normally publicly renounced it. What they are asking for are investigated and reform. It really isn't that scary and if they get what they want all ethnic groups benefit. Even white people. whole nation does. I'm sorry you missed the lesson in this because it's subtlety. I wouldn't be shocked if Tom hanks help write this one. Sometimes, SNL tends to be loud and hacky with there little lessons.

    Exactly. It's not a fear of african americans that drives a wedge between us, it's the idea that african americans are involved in gang violence. Why is that a stereotype? Perhaps because a lot of low-income and violence-riddled areas might have african american populations living there? I mean, there isn't an absence of other nationalities and races, but the reason why african americans have such high school drop out rates, drug problems, and family problems is because of their socio-economic status. People may be born into a social and economic class, but they can work hard and move up the ladder. But so many people don't because of self-fulfilling prophesies. It's a major problem, and I hope that one day that can be a big focus in society to work on.

    False. Ego divides us. The need to feel superior than anyone different or less fortunate has shamed the human race for thousands of years. Wrong. You won't see Low-income African-Americans burning crosses, bombing churches and forming Supremacist groups over the concept of "Race" with the virulence and venom that these hate-mongers do. Hatred, Envy, and Evil are what drives individuals to divide people based on melanin content and phenotype. Nazi Germany, Apartheid South Africa, Jim Crow America....the subjugation, exploitation, and extermination of Non-Cauacsian people's at the hands of evil individuals has nothing to do with income. Low income AAs do not live similar lives as American-Caucasians do, we face a completely different set of obstacles and challenges.
