You missed a bit about the feet. Many heron species have bright coloured feet and they have them for a reason. Because they are bright coloured it helps them see anything that moves across the top of the feet. If something swims across the brightness of the foot and breaks the out line the heron see’s it instantly and strikes. Not all herons have this but there are a few that do. Evolution is an incredible process.

That is exactly why the bird does it, specifically to do the same thing polarized sunglasses do for fishermen, remove the sky reflection from the top of the water so you can see any fish that swim by. Then it picks up mud to bury its Beach so we can stick just one toe up and wiggle it, using it like a lure by making it appear the way a grub worm or larvae would, on the bottom of the body of water. This guy just doesn't know how birds work, He had no idea what he was talking about. He thought a cursory glance through Google would tell him enough to make an accurate video like this. He was wrong.

Missed the more important point of casting a shadow - it blocks the surface reflection of sunshine allowing the bird to see into the water better; penetrating sunlight from around the shadow will highlight fish in the water. It’s physics. Try it yourself.
