I spend big money every week at Menards. Comparing prices to Home Depot and Menards wins every time. And with the rebates, you can send in expired ones and still get the rebate. I keep a collection and send them in once a year.

Since they have had their seemingly never ending 11% off sale it seems the prices have increased to make up for the rebate. Then there is the issue that if someone goes in to buy less than $10.00 worth of items what is the point of submitting the rebate since it has to be mailed in, and a stamp costs 50 cents.

The instructions to change the lock were also from Montezuma. Menards also sells tool chest/cabinets under the Performax brand. Performax is Menards in house brand that is less expensive than Masterforce. I do not know who makes Performax. Menards also sells Craftsman boxes and cabinets. Stanley Black & Decker sells those.

I've had the Masterforce 41" toolbox for over a year now and it's been great. I had originally planned to buy a US General 44", but the Masterforce seems to be way better quality. My only complaints is that it has fewer drawers than the US General, but the drawers are deeper and taller, so you do get more cubic inches of storage overall. I paid about $100 more than if I had gone with the US General, but I think it was worth the extra cost.

  • @erikaustin4223

The US General lies. It's 42 inches and 44 with the damn handle on. If you DO NOT PLAN on buying a us general top DO NOT BUY a us general bottom box. There is not a tool box on the planet that is 42x22, the closet I've found that's not us general is 38x18 and that's a masterpiece box top. -former Harbor Freight employee.

Two days ago I bought the Evolution R185SMS+ 7-1/4" miter saw (for its metal cutting capabilities). I have been saving my rebate coupons for a few months. Brought my out-the-door price down from $199 to $75. I save up my rebate receipts until I have $50-75 worth and then send them in. And even though I only paid $75 for the saw, I got a rebate receipt for $22 (11% of $199).

This popped up in my feed 10 months later, but still very informative. I have wondered who makes Menards tools. I am 15 minutes away from one with a Home Despot along the way. I always find Menards prices better, even before the 11% rebate. And, yes, it is in the form of a store credit redeemed in the store, after mailing in a receipt and simple form. They are very efficient and prompt at processing them. They don't expire and you can use part of it, using the balance later, like a gift card. For me, they always get redeemed so I don't lose out.

Most of the Menard's brand (Masterforce) hand tools are made by Apex Tool Group and their power tools are made by Chervon. Most would put them in a prosumer category, good enough for professionals but more geared towards consumers. Actually the hand tools are made by the brand JS Proucts inc. I work at a menards and the handtools/sockets come in js product inc labeled boxes. Not sure if js is a sub of apex or not. They also have some tools, like their tape measures, that are made by komelon, and some of their utility knifes are made by both, Stanley and Olympia tools, Their hammers are made by Vaughan.

@The Den of Tools. Thanks Red for the info on Menards. What??? A Walmart and Home Depot under one roof? Do they have a wall that goes all the way up separating the two? Can I expect a nice layer of concrete dust on my groceries? Who hasn't been at a Home Depot and not have a layer of concrete dust over anything they buy that's been on the shelves for a little while? Hope you, Jeff, and your families stay safe and well.

Menards claim is that they can build a complete house (to a certain spec) with what they have in stock. They are definitely more of a true hardware store. On a related note, I’ve been using that same 41-inch Masterforce top box and cabinet since 2009 and it has held up fantastic. Definitely recommend them.

Menards is more built around building materials rather than tools. Home depot and Lowes don't even hold a candle in that category, but again menards kinda lacks in tool variety

I mean the master force tools aren’t bad, especially if you only need it occasionally, I’d rather spend a fraction of the price for a tool I use every now and then, rather than the expensive brands, now if I was a contractor or someone who uses tools on a daily basis, probably not, I work at menards in outside yard and order pickup, so sometimes we use the power tools and I must say there pretty good for the price

I like Menards for things like insulating my garage and lumber, but not as much for tools although I did get a couple Knipex pliers on sale there. They also have a Toolshop brand that is like the cheaper Harbor Freight line, don't buy their cheap clamps though! They also sell Bosch, Craftsman and some other brands too. The 11% though is a pain and takes awhile to get your credit.

I'm immediately impressed by Menard's strategy, indicated by that map. That intense grouping of stores makes for great synergies they need to compete and thrive. First, Good Housekeeping, using US Gov. data finds that the average distance moved away from Mom and Dad is 18 miles, with 11 moves in a lifetime. So people in these areas crossing State or County lines will likely find a very familiar shopping experience, Menard's. Second. Keeping good people in the company is also easier for the same reason. If you want a promotion, it's close if not immediately available in your store, or district. Third. Likewise, Distribution drivers in the company can drive a reliable route, and reasonably be home, while supplying a multibillion dollar company. This means a great deal to employee satisfaction. HEB in San Antonio has $25b in annual sales with a total distribution footprint of 150,000 sq. miles. Only 60% of Texas. No route driver at HEB has to spend any time away from home, in SA. Menards' map very much reminds me of that graphic. Forth. Competition penetration is dubious. the 2 bigger companies have a headache with so many stores from #3 crowding them. I recall grocery chains 3x HEBs' size which moved out of Central Texas in the 80's. Simply cannot compete. The overall result is good customer, good employee, good management relationships. Now, they just have to work on the human factor, and not screw it up. That reputation I cannot comment on, I've never seen a Menard's that I'm aware of. I hear good things at school, here in classes at YTU.

Both Kobalt and Masterforce power tools are made by Chevron. The Master force power tools are actually pretty impressive. If I didn't already have Milwaukee and was looking to start, Master force would be a very decent option. They have brushless tolls, unlike Hercules, which keeps teasing it, but never makes good on them.

While I don't own any Master Force power tools, I'll definitely be checking into them if/when Porter Cable completely goes away. Performax (another brand mentioned in the TTI lawsuit) is also a Menards brand. I have several of the Performax 20" 3 drawer tool boxes living in my race car trailer. At around $50(regular price), they're comparable to, but I think better than, the low end Craftsman 20" boxes. Apex has produced Master Force hand tools for years. They used to be made in Texas but have since moved overseas. They're still high quality tools but the prices haven't come down at all.

Menards has huge building materials selection, but their treated lumber is wet like a sponge and dimensionally is all over the place but they carry nice cedar boards. The quality of some of their brands can be suspect, like their prehung doors, outdoor furniture etc. their bag concrete brand was called all star and it was junk but dirt cheap. Great selection of screws and hardware. Plumbing and electrical is great. Appliances not so much but they have a few. Their online order process hasn’t caught up to Lowe’s. Overall a good store but I have found what’s good at each box store that I stick to. For my area RP lumber is go to for treated.

Hi there, Mr. Bear! LOL. I have a video suggestion, if I may? I see all kinds of tests to failure of ratchets, sockets, wrenches, etc, where the use of cheater bar is required to make that happen. 99% of the time that means very little because you aren't ever really supposed to use a pipe on the end of a tool. People do it, but you should really go get a breaker bar instead of busting up your nice ratchet. IMHO where the rubber meets the road is not whether or not it will break when you use it, because all of them will pass pretty much, if they are used BY HAND. The real test is how the tool actually fits the fastener; the tolerances for fit the tool is made to. I would love to see a video comparing THIS, as I think it would be more of a real world comparison. Do the cheaper tools fit as well as the more expensive ones?
