In this video, we capture LMS Black Five 44871 hauling The White Rose 24th February 2024 from London Kings Cross to York and return via Lincoln Central and Peterborough captured at Eaves Lane Level Crossing in Sutton-on-Trent powering away from her booked pathing stop at Carlton-on-Trent loop making an a lovely sight as she glistens in the sunlight. And thankfully we got lucky with the LNER Azuma passing before the Black Five passed us!
We now rewind back into December 2023 for some unseen bonus footage of 44871, back when she didn't have a Scottish numberplate that we have been saving we we see since as we weren't satisfied enough with the first clip and the second clip being from a day of bashing at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway
We first see 44871 coasting through Arksey, just north of Doncaster 16th December 2023 on The Christmas White Rose from Norwich to York via Lincoln Central and return diesel hauled whilst 44871 would head off to the KWVR for Christmas.
Unfortunately on a yellow signal but we feel this is was because she was being routed via Knottingley which we didn't realise therefore we wouldn't have gone to Arksey in the first place, but nonetheless she looks nice in the December light as almost got bowled by a Lumo IET as she was approaching! There's a bit of a theme going on with IETs and 44871 isn't there lol...
We then fast forward back in time to 29th December where we get a single shot of the Black Five powering away from Haworth on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway as she makes her way to Oxenhope on a Keighley to Oxenhope service to end off the video.
Overall it's always great to see a Black Five out and about and hopefully we can capture 44871 again sometime as she may be out on tours quite a lot this year on Mk2 coaching stock due to WCRs CDL issues.
