When on a full stomach. Though black bears attack more people than brown bears. If a black bear attacks don't play dead as it will keep eating you regardless. If you want to see what a black bear is capable of look up the Liard spring bear attack. That black bear killed 2 people (a mother of 3 and a father of 1 who jumped in to help the women) it also injured 3/4 others who also joined in. Mind you it did this in broad daylight in a resort area filled with people and it gave no f**ks whatsoever. Don't ever underestimate them it's a bear and bears though amazing are extremely unpredictable.

When in bear country, always wear bells and carry bear spray. Also, be able to identify bear scat to know if a bear is in your area. Black bear scat will have bits of vegetation and berries in it. Brown bear scat will smell like bear spray and have bells in it.

For people like me who reside in residential neighborhoods inhabited by suburban black bears, this isn't a terribly unusual situation. Suburban black bears regard calm human beings merely as a normal part of their environment. Note the complete absence of aggressive behavior. This intelligent, docile, trusting bear was looking for food and clearly does not regard human beings as food.

@Stewart Suburban black bears do not behave the same as park/wilderness bears -- especially with respect to their food preferences. If you lived in a community where they co-exist peacefully with humans, you would know. We don't fear them because we understand their ways, whereas some like yourself would likely need an underwear change the first time you encountered one.

Black bears are dangerous. Our encounter with one left fang marks on my husband’s thigh, claw marks on his back and knees. His final act was to bite my Yorkie in the back and run off with her into the woods where he (the bear) ate her for lunch. This woman was very lucky.

I tried throwing a few handfuls of pretzels towards em but most of em kept coming & I had to drop the whole bag & run lmfao. I looked back after a bit & they were all fuckin up the big bag of pretzels & looking at me like "Yea now get yo ass outta here" I was trippin like I had just seriously been pressed & jacked for my shit by some raccoons, the way they ass came outta then bushes had me lmfao 🤣

A bear, being omnivorous, isn’t a predator. Tigers kill their prey quite quickly. A bear on the other hand, will stand on you and eat your guts while you’re alive.

It was so smart of her to stay calm, and not panic. It was just curious. No harm done.

@@GZ187 This was only risk in the case the bear was extremely hungry. It's more of a risk if you surprise the bear and suddenly stand in front of it I think. Also more risk if the bear has cubs. An alone black bear usually runs away if it gets surprised or scared off.

He's just looking for a picnic basket.

Don't know about that . We have open carry in my state. But if it was no more aggressive than that I would just stand up and speak loudly looking as big as possible. If that didn't work he's getting two. 357s to the cranium.

that was a good advice. If you a chill and calm ( and not just pretending to be, they would know) in front of a predetor, that is not currently on hunt, they would assume you have a good reason to not be afraid and avoid you. If you freak out and start running, they would attack even if they did not want to Edit: especially if they are already that close, you would have no chance by running. If bear is already agressive you should make a noise to scare it off. But then there is a chance a bear could choose to fight you instead. That bear in a video was just curious.

Yea that close making noise could startle it and it might actually attack at that point. That advice is usually ok if the lady was already standing and could back away slowly before making noise or anything.

good advice black bears generally are gentle not aggressive if you are cool and kind they won't harm you. I wouldn't advice hitting or being aggressive or hysterical or running just sit there be calm.

She was not in actual danger. Suburban black bears don't regard humans as food and don't regard calm people as threats. As soon as the woman spoke softly to the bear, she put him at ease, because that's what the friendly humans do.

The worst advice ever, a female black bear can weight up to 600 lbs. Their strength embarrasses even the strongest of mankind. They’re to be respected, not expected that they are easy to fool. You don’t ever want a charging black bear after you if you’re a threat to her young. Leave the creatures alone, and let them do their own thing please. It is better if we don’t interfere. That is a spirit animal of the forest where I come from. If you are lucky enough to see one up close, respect that they have decided to let you be, and don’t get close.

"It's a black bear, you're fine." Until it decides to eat you alive for dinner.
