Excellent recommendation list. I've read about 85% of the books you mentioned here and can confirm that they are all fantastic. Victor Lavalle's The Changeling is a personal favorite. Not sure if you've read Jesmyn Ward yet, but based on some of the books you recommended, I think you'd really enjoy some of her books. :)

Thank you! glad to hear confirmation of that :) I haven't read from her yet because speculative and historical are out of my comfort zone but Let Us Descend has definitely caught my eye

So many books/authors to add to my list, thank you! Legendborn was so good 😍 I just finished The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and it was a 5 star read for me.

Currently reading Legendborn, funny enough! I'm also reading Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler (which I wasn't aware was written 31 years ago about the very year we're living in today) and it's *heavy* but *so good*.

I hope you're enjoying it! oh wow I didn't realize it's that old either 😂 is it more speculative fiction?? I'm confused on the genre it's part of.

Hi Mars, Great recommendations. I loved A Master of Djinn by P Djeli Clark and can't wait for his next book to come out. Have you read any of N. K. Jemisin's books? I have read most of her books and my favourite one is The Fifth Season. 😊

Hi, thank you! Good to hear, it's quite high on my tbr. I haven't yet, I remembered to add her when I was too deep in editing 😂 But I hear amazing things about her writing and strong characters that I'm intrigued to read :)

@@StarLitLibrary "The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms" was the first book that was published. It's about gods and Empire. It's the first of the trilogy but you don't have to read all three books. Her latest series, fist book is "The city We Become". This is her love letter to New York City. It has avatars and evil beings trying to take over New York.
