The Arbiter is HOOKED ON A FEELIN'!
Björn Skifs is one of the best male singers Sweden has produced, and there's a lot of competition.
They didn't even bother to record the Broadway cast version of this song. They always cut this one and it's such a great song and needed plot wise.
Björn is also the same singer who sings the song "Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling" in Guardians of the galaxy.

I like several songs in it. Part of the problem with the musical is that most of the (IMO) best songs are...um...story optional. This is a great "I am" song for a character who's mostly unimportant for the plot, and Bangkok is barely an "I am" song for the American. I don't see the rest as rising to the level of these songs with the exception of "Nobody's Side", which just works on all levels. Mind you, they're good, but not quite the same. To me, it's as if the best song in Phantom was Magical Lasso.

The whole song is quite ABBA-ish - as far as I know it was originally planned for ABBA, had they continued in the 80s after things were mostly put on ice in late 1982. It was just restructured with Tim Rice with a different singer for the Chess musical.
It's my job to find deficiences While I'm walking around On behalf of all our clients I report to you Which I do -- But there's a catch I don't care that you're the customer No one messes with me I am ruthless in upholding What I know is right In march time -- or code three I got my case Got my tools Doing inspections At hotels and schools I'm the alarm technician, I know best We're offline and all systems are now on test You got your tricks Good for you But there's no shortcut, I don't see through I'm the alarm technician, I'm on tour From Zone One I'll be walking on every floor If you're thinking of a jury rig Like I've seen in the past Fake detectors hiding cameras Cheap resistor tricks And T-taps -- Not so fast There's no batts in this FACP Not a red box in sight This entire install is horrific so Now I know -- what to write I got my case Got my tools Doing inspections At hotels and schools I'm the alarm technician, I know best We're offline and all systems are now on test You got your tricks Good for you But there's no shortcut, I don't see through I'm the alarm technician, I'm on tour From Zone One I'll be walking on every floor

Hi Lyn ! Hope you're well and safe. 🙄 I was never a massive fan of ABBA, but as I've gotten older I've learned to understand the complexity of the music. Now I love most of their songs. (I was 12 when ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. "Waterloo" was so different it sounded like from outer space. But in a good way !) 😊 So when Chess was introduced, it happened again... Planet Chess had been discovered !!!😍 I've listened to Chess, the entire musical, about a million times over the years. So now both the music and the lyrics are tattoed on my mind.... I couldn't shake them even if I wanted to ! 😆 (Did you know that Chess was made in both english and swedish ?! The swedish version is a little longer, as it contains a few more songs...) Both are brilliant ! 🤗 Love from Oslo, Norway 💖 ❄⛄

Not so bad. Some practice would help. It has none of the dynamic range of 'Till I hear you sing' or 'Pity the Child'. A reasonably skilled baritone with a good ear can handle the Arbiter -- in contrast, you really need the likes of Adam Pascal or Ramin Karimloo to stand a chance at the behemoths that require obscene dynamic range.
