+Toby Brook Ya, but the whole movie was from the perspective of the girl that escaped, hence why she was narrating it. If you didn't figure it out from the beginning of the movie, the girl that escaped actually was crazy, the dances were the girls showing the therapist what happened to them, and the different battle scenes were how the narrator interpreted the therapy sessions.

Sucker Punch is NOT about girls or madhouses. It is a metaphor, the entire plot is a adventure of the psyche and 3 main characters are the components of the human psyche: Sweet pea is the Ego, Wise Man the Super Ego and Baby Doll the It. The whole plot is a learning experience for the Ego and the fact that SP is free to go in the end means it is a happy ending. That is why Snyder haters hate his movies, THEY ARE WAY OVER THEIR LITTLE HEADS.
@bruhufool
5 ай бұрын
Damn you just changed my whole perspective of this movie, the movie is extremely underrated.
@rubenoteiza9261
5 ай бұрын
@@bruhufool Thank you. I haven't seen it whole but from what i know there is a lot to analyze here. For ex., from what I have seen, all the other girls are killed, disappear, which would mean they represent things than may go away, tendencies, memories, etc, and the only ones who remain at the end are those two which mean things that stay, i.e integral parts of the psyche. Also from the beginning Id wants to precipitate things and all she gets is to make mistakes for which there is a price to pay, which is of course a learning process. At the end she volunteers to sacrifice herself to allow Ego to be free which is nothing less than finally the Ego being able to act while controlling its basic impulses. And which is the individual driving from then on the bus on the road trip of her life...? Knowledge and experience, wisdom: Wise Man, the Super Ego, That is a happy ending, because BD is NOT dead, she is only under control. BTW, a lobotomy is not an operation that turns a patient into a vegetable like films as SP, Brazil or POA would pretend, it was something was was popular in the post war period when it was thought that personal tendencies, among them criminal ones, were located in particular parts of the brain and I remember when a kid that some career criminals were offered to be set free if they accepted to have the "criminal part" of their brains cut off. I guess the procedure wasn't very successful after all to stop crime but I know that after the operation the neuro motor capabilities of a man were not irremediably affected, they could modify his behavior but not in any way to the point of turning him into a vegetable. With that perspective the one practiced on BD makes far more sense, she is being put under control. The bad step father is most likely also another representation. BTW, in you are interested in the subject there is a great movie about the same thing, the elements inside the psyche, but in this case that of a serial killer. It is called Identity, with John Cussack and Amanda Pett.

I think by far the saddest part of this movie was how most of the girls didn’t stand a chance. Babydoll even says it at the end. I don’t think I was the only one who thought all the girls would make it out in the beginning, until the end I realised all except Sweetpea showed so many signs of mental illness. Especially Babydoll. And it’s likely that some of them didn’t start that way, their reality (mental hospital and the brothel) probably broke them.
@mr.katnip1513
10 ай бұрын
First of all, it’s not real, so settle your horses, a story has it’s purpose, and it’s never to get caught up in the characters like you’re reading up on the gossip column, if the ending doesn’t have a catharsis it’d be called a documentary but it’s not, so the elements of the equation are there to point at the sum of all the parts. Watch it again and try to find the ending this time around!! .. And one more thing, metaphors are not literal.. and did I mention that metaphors are not literal but they are metaphysical. For example , the three Giant Samurai at the beginning are exactly the three at the end in the bathroom stall!! 😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
@mr.katnip1513
10 ай бұрын
So the movie plays out as a prophecy, she goes into an ecstatic state while she dances and she sees the end before the beginning, she knows she will conquer but she doesn’t know how, so the victory is shown to her in secret but the puzzle is how the that same victory translates into reality. As far as mental illness, you’re wrong on all counts, the reason why mental institutions were particularly banned is because you can’t having the sick healing sick, which is what this movie portrays quite well but some in society would still have you believe that some are lucid while others are insane!! 😇😇😇😇😇😇😇

Why does your comment continue after this if you’re not supposed to get caught up with the characters?
@mr.katnip1513

@@stitchedmouthgirl Because they are parts of a picture that tells a story, they are not stories of within themselves; notice at the end Babydoll only reveals the sum of her visions to Sweetpea when she says, ‘I know what I have to do now’ but all the other girls were in the dark, they were only riding on ‘we can do it’!! 😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
@mr.katnip1513
10 ай бұрын
@@stitchedmouthgirl If you listen to the narrations by Sweetpea you’ll understand what the movie portrays as a whole, keep in mind that neither Babydoll or Sweetpea are ‘criminally insane’. Sweetpea was there for her sister, and Babydoll was there because of her Stepfather. The only person seeing the visions is who we have the pleasure of seeing the movie through her eyes 👀 which is Babydoll but the narrative is entirely Sweetpea’s, Sweetpea only sees the dance “reality” as it were, while Babydoll is in a more heightened state of consciousness due to her recent trauma, and she’s having visions while dancing but the optics of what they experienced in reality is through Sweetpea’s eyes 👀 Take your time… When you see the optics initially it is the Oscar’s character optics, which is grimy and dirty all around, pay attention to each and all the individual optics!! 😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
