Beautiful display! Just got my uBITX 6.1 this morning, built it but haven't powered it up, and already I want to change out to the Nextion display with your code! Lovely, nice work.

A really useful, nicely paced video; simple explainations and helpful use of block circuit diagrams. The only 'annoying' thing is I've already got far too many projects on the go and now you've talked me into another one.....curses! Thanks Bill, Paul, G0odp

Thanks for your time taken to make this video. I felt like I was sitting next to you in your ham shack as you expect your mods. All that was missing was a cup of tea. 73

Watched, subscribed, and rang the bell on videos #59 & #75...enjoyed both of them very much. Being a fairly new ham with just a old YAESU 2M FM only rig, I'm thinking about "taking the plunge" and buying the basic kit so I can get on HF. Can you tell me if there would be problems (other than power requirements) if I used a larger Nextion Display, say the 4.3", 5", or 7" models? I plan on making my own custom enclosure, but I'm wondering if the firmware/software mod for the Arduino would still work with these larger displays?

Tom, the various web resources seem to indicate that the larger Nextions work OK with the Radiuno. My display works a treat, and although it's cosmetic, it really does improve the usability of the radio for me. I have kept the old Arduino and display intact, and used another Arduino. I had two spare ones, and it was not happy with one of them, however the other did work fine.

Great Stuff! Btw I am taking my test 9/18. I will hopefully be able to attend my first Hamfest. These are up in the air though. With Virus numbers back on the rise you never know what will get postponed.

Thank you for this video. I have tried to load v1.2 onto the nano but I get an error saying the file size is too large. Did you modify the .ino file to get it to load onto the nano? If so, can you tell me/us what you did? I would like to retain CW decode, if possible. Tnx de Arnie W8DU

Arnie, I didn't compile the code for the Arduino, I uploaded the hex file code direct to the micro. The hex files are here: Release uBITX CEC Version v1.20 · phdlee/ubitx You need to use the correct version for the display you are planning to use. Also, I kept the original Arduino from the uBITX so I can convert back if I ever want to do that. I had 2 Arduino Nano's and only one of them was ok with running the new code, the other one would just not work, even though it worked for other sketches! Hope that helps.

@@LockdownElectronics Well, I was able to get the code compiled in the Arduino IDE and uploaded to a new Nano. What I had to do was go into the ubitx.h file and comment out the parameters for the LCD display and uncomment the parameters for the Nextion display. Once I did that, it compiled without error. Have not installed the Nextion display...that is for tomorrow. I will let you know how that works. Thanks.

So I uploaded the firmware to my brand new Nano, plugged the Nano into the Raduino board. WHen I fired it up, the display was black and I noticed that the 7805 regulator was firey hot. SO I figured there was a short somewhere. I searched and searched and could find not short. Then I tried to put the original Nano back in and the 7805 stayed cool. It was only then that I noticed that the pins on the original Nano were mounted on the opposite side of the Nano as were the pins on the brand new Nano. Ah ha! SO I have now ordered more Nanos, this time with the pins not mounted to I can solder them myself to the same side as the pins are on the Nano that came with the Raduino board. I don't recall anyone mentioning this before, so beware.

Ah yes, I do seem to recall swapping over the pin header on an Arduino, good point, well spotted!

Brilliant work, but I wish someone would come up with a enclosure and control set that doesn't look like a bodged cookie tin.

A cheap 5v step down buck regulator would cut the power consumption of the controller module by about 50% Something to think about if you want to run on batteries.
