I meet the new addition to the family, Ekko. The local nonprofit shelter, Paws and Claws, had a litter of Bear Dogs arrive. They like like to chew on my hair. I had my eyes on Karelian Bear Dogs for over a year, so I was sure to scoop one up. We needed a female to balance the household. She's perfect! I would love to share my experiences with her, with you. Please enjoy this series of the Ekko growing up and hanging with her siblings.

Mine are both rescues, 14 yr male and 4 yr female. I think the previous owners didn’t know what a KBD needed. Mine are the best most loving and loyal dogs ever and I will likely never have another breed. They have done wonders protecting us from bears, it is so automatic for them.
They are so beautiful. We lost ours to old age, he lived to almost 14 years of age, so wise, caring, playful, funny, trusting and loving. An amazing breed. Seeing these small ones, makes me feel it is soon time for a new pupper in our life :) Enjoy him to the fullest!

So glad that you have posted the video. The puppies are so beautiful. Three weeks ago I bought a KBD puppy and I am in love with her. I have started training her but I am a novice. I would like to be able to communicate with people who have these type of dogs. Until now I could only find posts from 10 years ago. I hope you post more.

Congrats! My pup is now 2 years old :D I am not super active on youtube lately but I do post daily on Instagram and TikTok and my medias are all Mo Mountain Mutt. I do virtual training, you can DM me on Instagram to schedule something if your interested :D or comment things you would like to see in videos and I'll do my best to answer and post. We also sometimes go live on TikTok and can answer questions there too

You should always take the dog that chooses you.
My 4 month old KBD is a mini alligator, do you have any tips on how to get him to stop nipping? I know it will probably stop after teething is over but those tiny teeth are sharp! Lol

I mark the behavior with "no" or "ah-ah" as I quickly disengage interest/attention/touch and ignore them for a moment, then I grab a toy near by and wiggle it and when they bite the toy I mark "yes" and praise with verbal/pets/more play. The pup just wants attention, if they are relentless and don't figure it out as they get older, when I mark "no/ah ah" I might clap my hands to help interrupt the behavior or do something like snap my fingers at them, to encourage that biting me is not pleasant but getting a toy is fun/pleasant. Good Luck! puppy teeth are so sharp! If they get older/bigger and don't knock it off over lots of repetitions of this, a leash correction would be applied.
