The amount of storytelling and characterization you’ve captured in under 5 minutes is incredible. WOW! The only context I have for these characters is this and I’m insanely invested in them. That’s seriously so impressive. Lots of mainstream stories can only dream of resonating this deeply.

The shading, storytelling, and sheer SKILL in this is absolutely insane. I love this. I find it criminal how few people have seen this. Don’t stop animating (or do if you need a break).

This is a great story even with no audio voice lines the sound effects really help the story Beautiful 😊

I think we can infer the nun initially chose her religion over her child- more specifically, she couldn't commit. The scar on her cheek implies the cause of giving Alice away. If Alice was ever found out, it would ruin her life as a nun. She chose a compromise: to keep the girl nearby but not take custody. (Due to their familiarity, and the phrasing of dialogue, we can infer the orphanage is nearby enough that the nun would be able to keep tabs on Alice. It's possible she was one of the nuns running the orphanage or was in contact with a nun who was.) Even here, she chooses to maintain the facade until she thinks she won't get another chance to tell her. Even though she meant what she said to Alice, she still wasn't willing to choose one or the other (notably, she conceals the cross to protect the child). She was willing to give up the job, but not at the cost of being shunned (like her daughter). As a result, she fails the test, because Alice already knows. She _might_ have remained calm if the nun had admitted the truth when there wasn't yet any pressure. Since she yells the truth before several witnesses, she causes the scenario that convinced her to give Alice up- the word is out, and straight from the source. Her life as a nun is kaput (symbolized by the cross getting destroyed underfoot by one of the witnesses), only now she doesn't have Alice either. By trying to keep both, she ends up with neither.
