Bistrita Monastery, Vâlcea county (I)
Holy Bistriţa Monastery is an Orthodox monastery in Romania located near the village of Bistriţa, Costesti commune, Vâlcea county, located in the archdiocese of Râmnicului. It is a foundation of the Craiovesti boyars, dating from around 1490, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God.
The Bistriţa Monastery is also famous for the fact that the first printing house in Wallachia was established here, where the monk Macarie printed Liturghierul (in the Slavonic language), the first book printed on Romanian soil, in 1508.
At the Bistrita Monastery are the relics of St. Gregory the Decapolitan.
