Bist du bei mir by Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel | Jeremy Koh

Музыка

Jeremy Koh sings Bist du bei mir, self-accompanied on the theorbo.
The previous video mentioned Monteverdi contributing significantly to the development of opera, so here we are with an aria from Stölzel’s opera, Diomedes.
The aria is often mistaken as a work by Johann Sebastian Bach since it appears in his Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach (Little Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach). Musicologists have suggested that the tune could have been notated out of fondness after attending a performance of it at the theatre.

While it seems morbid, death was a common part of life seeing how infant mortality was common in the Bach household. Today we enjoy this love song with the privilege of good health.
