@thatWanderingSoul it's factual though mate. Mike was saying that as an mma athlete. To achieve what he has done with solely one skill set is impressive. We all know that Alex isn't a well rounded mix marital artist. It's a fact. Personally, I think its a lot to do with the fact it's very strike heavy up at the top of the divisions he's fought in. I'd like to see how successful he is when he fights a great wrestler or bjj practitioner. Then. We'll see how good he really is. Because so far. He's not really been tested in those areas.

Again, a great breakdown. Difficult fight to predict, but I have Alex by decision. Pereira picks his shots and conserves energy and is great on the fence vs takedowns. He will be ready with even better takedown d.

He's defensively sound on the ground, which is all he needs, but just gotta say, turtle isn't a bad position. People just accept the false notion that it is and thus almost exclusively train escaping it, not defending static in the position or mounting offense from it, and there are plenty of good ways to be offensive from turtle. Again, just saying. I don't expect Alex to go for offensive moves from turtle. He's had success going to guard so that's what I'd except. I did see a video of him rolling recently, though, and he was moving really well. Even hitting some slick passes, but again I don't really expect offense from him on the ground, but it would be awesome to see. I bet he could do some real damage with hammer fists given how little he needs to load up to land KOs, but of course a lot of that is about how he generates the torque and doing so on his back is way different

Jiri was my personal favourite fighter years before Risin and It´s because he can surprise and that is exactly what he needs to do now. Surprise us all and knock Pereira out.

DDP said something intresting a while ago. He said that once you fight someone the first time the element of surprise is gone the second time. This goes both ways. I think Jiri is going to be a lot smarter this time. That said Alex will also be smater. This is to close to call.

Totally different, but before being knocked out by Izzy Alex was smoking him in the 2nd fight. I think that in terms of adaptation Alex is much better, but Jiri has that full attack spirit

​@@GeloucossYeah, that gets ignored way too much about the 2nd fight, and I still don't understand how anyone believes Izzy's bs about playing possum. He said himself right after the fight in the octagon interview that he didn't even know what he hit him with. Doesn't sound like something planned to me. Also hard to tell for 100% sure because of the camera angle but it really looks like Izzy's eyes were closed when he threw the first shot in that combo. Nothing wrong with a hail mary that worked out that well, really, but clearly there is to Izzy so he lies. May have had the idea to try that but doing it in that moment wasn't planned. Also yeah, Jiri has an uncanny ability to ignore all damage done to him. He was doing better with the hands for most of the first fight. Obviously, his legs were getting chewed up, but he was starting to deal with them better in rd2 and it never slowed him down. It's a coin flip for sure. I wouldn't be at all upset with getting a trilogy, I'd just hope Alex wins the trilogy

Very interesting. That makes me feel more confident for Strickland in a rematch. Sean had no surprises in the first, and DDP's whole style (and in no way am I downplaying his skill when I say this) *could* be called surprising given how awkward and wild it is, and Sean had adjusted by rd5. DDP could be awkward and wild in a slightly different way, and Sean tends to fight more or less the same every time, but by that and token, there's a lot more room for him to come out with some surprises in a rematch. Just praying DDP beats Izzy, but I do think he will

Jiri, and all fighters, deserve the benefit of a second chance just like Congo got his against Pat Barry.

Jiri has a hard time adjusting, once he gets in the octagon he gets careless and goes for you hit me and i hit you kind of fight but against Alex it doesn't work it's like you hit me and i hit oh NO wait it's over!!!

If you watch the first fight, jiri was doing well against alex. If jiri has made adjustments to his gameplan and now has the experience against alex. He possibly can win. Jiri has probably learnt alot from the first fight. I'd love to jiri win, he's super creative and the way he fights is really entertaining to watch. The jumping knees are so cool

Adjustments are going to be made from both. Alex will have better timing from all of jiris "awkwardness ". And his ground game has only been getting better from training.

I love them both. I'd like Alex to win to further cement his legacy, but I'd like Jiri to win for more or less the same reason. Plus, if Jiri wins, we will almost undoubtedly get the trilogy, and Ankalaev will either have to wait for a title shot or fight someone else in the meantime, which would be great

I’m not counting him out. 50/50 of jiri keeps an eye on his defence

If you watched the first fight closely, he had surprise on his side and unorthodox striking was throwing Alex off, but on the second round he had it figured out and made the adjustments that led to a knockout. I will never say Jiri can't win the fight, they both hit so hard. I just think that Alex has him figured out and Jiri hasn't adapted to the leg kicks even at 300.

The first fight I picked wrongly. And for this fight I’m even more unsure of who to take.

Never mentioned Jiri was coming off one of the most serious injuries prior to the first fight.

I m glad how people are beginning to realize that Jiri has a Big chance of winning. They forget the exchanges that happened but just focus on the TKO in the first fight. I guess they rewatched the fight to note the details. Alex was on the back foot, Jiri was chasing him down until he got caught.

I’m just some random guy on the internet but it’s my opinion that at 205 Izzy has no chance against Alex. Alex was hurt in both fights by Izzy early on and I think the drastic weight cut had a huge effect on that. The same punch that hurt him in round 1 of fight 1 didn’t hurt him later in fight 1 because as the fight went on and he was sweating and rehydrate in he was cycling water through his system quicker which helps to rehydrate the body and brain.

The weight cutting benefits alex rather than not; because after the weigh ins he rehydrated to AT LEAST 228lbs, whereas izzy maybe rehydrated to 198lbs 😂... Alex has like 30lbs on izzy every time they fight... Alex is a weight bully, izzy is more skilled

As an Alex Pereira fan, that fight could have gone any way. I want Alex to win, but Jiri isn't a bad person to possibly lose to. This is THE rematch for the big guy. I think people underestimate Pereira's ground game, it's not because he seldom had to use it that it doesn't exist, he's been rolling with Glover for years now, he's not easy to takedown and is certainly not defenseless on his back, I believe Jiri and Glover are around the same level when it comes to wrestling, so Pereira has a good chance (Eventhough he got taken down last fight, he got up pretty quickly and looked very calm and composed). When it comes to stand up, Jiri is REALLY good but Po Atan is just not human, he's on another level of striking, the only way to fight against him is to focus on defense (Like Vakhitov in kickboxing), shell in and counter him (Like Izzy did in the second fight) but it's not Jiri's style, Jiri will want to show that his striking is better and ultimately, that might cause him to lose but hey, both fighters faced each other once, each one of them has probably made the necessary changes, I think we're in for a very different fight, anything could happen.

Jiri is everything Michael says he is but we must remember that both of their recent fights happened on the same night and Prochazka took a lot more damage than Pereira. Rakic landed some good shots and took a good swing at his legs. So Alex comes in a lot fresher.

The first fight Jiri was coming back after a year and a half out with the "worst shoulder injury ever seen". I guess we'll get to see if that mattered or not. I tend to root for the underdog but at some point you just start rooting for greatness. Exciting fight either way.

Alex is patient and calculated, Jiri is unorthodox and wild. Makes for an interesting fight, but the longer it goes the better chance Alex has.. just my opinion of course.

Alex is no doubt a monster but most people treat him like he’s invincible. It’s not like they’re levels apart. I believe If Jiri can minimize those leg kicks which is a big and dangerous part of Alex’s game then the outcome will be very different. I think Jiri can win by TKO or submission but pace and watching those leg kicks will determine the fight in my opinion.

Jiri fought Pereira in his very first fight back from a very long lay off due to one of the most brutal injuries in ufc history. Pereira was one of the most active fighter going into that fight so that’s a huge advantage. Jiri is for sure going to give Alex problems. Alex is super technical and it’s going to take an awkward guy like Jiri to catch him with a bomb. I still think Alex wins but Jiri does have a shot with his awkward style. He caught pereira in the first fight but couldn’t finish. He could possible do it this time.

McGregor has broken sobriety, not a broken toe. You’d think he and Dana could come up with a better story to cover that up.
