Bismarck- WW2 Battleship League Division 2 - Historical Build with
Ойындар
It is the pride of the German Navy today as Drachinifel and I build our best approximation of the Bismarck. This video was originally recorded under the 1.08.8 so there are some minor changes between the ship you see here and the one in the battles that took place under 1.08.9 R2.

At the start of Denmark Strait, the RN force mistook Eugen for Bismarck.
@draco84oz

Standard practice was to have the Battleship go ahead of the cruiser - but Prinz Eugen was leading as Bismark's radar was playing up at the time. Also, the two ships are remarkably similar in silhouette. I don't think you can really blame the lookouts for mistaking which ship was which.

Looking forward to battles!
I'm gonna call it now. Bismarck will end up winning this league, primarily due to how OP turtleback is in this game, plus she has by far the most powerful guns and best rangefinder. Prediction: Hood will be dead last, Richelieu next because the game can not handle all forward whatsoever, KGV and Nelson will be 4th and 3rd, who gonna take which place I don't know, Littorio will be 2nd because her shells are actually working and Bismarck will be first because she is fighting Nelson and not Rodney.

What are Rohr-Pulver propellants? German propellants for the first half of the twentieth century were manufactured in the form of hollow tubes and designated as RP for Rohr-Pulver or "Tube powder." The propellants were classified by model year and by the external and internal diameters of the tubes in millimeters. What is RP C/38 powder? For example, RP C/38 (14/4.9)meant a tube powder first introduced in 1938 that had an external diameter of 14 mm (0.551 in) and an internal diameter of 4.9 mm (0.193 in).

Bismarck use light shell, and Tirpitz use Heavy shell. We can build in this game historical ship, but still like Unhistorical ship..
I notice something when people talk about Bismarck and I'm a little suprised Drach wasn't aware, or at least he didn't seem to be but Bismarck was referred to by its crew and Captain Lindemann with He/Him pronouns rather than the usual She/Her given to ships. I used to be confused why some such as Sabaton referred to it as a male, but that's why. Just a fun little factoid.

I'm unsure about the citadel "belt" armour. I don't know how the games damagemodell simulates the turtleback internally, but if 1st inner Belt means the thickness of the turtleback, and 2nd inner Belt the vertical armour behind it, then 25mm would be quite a lot less than the real values. It would also explain the comparatively low weight.

Did I really hear a Brit going on about superfluous letters in a name? Like say...Gloucestershire maybe? Or Godminister? Actually, German is kind of known for NOT having extraneous letters; although that does tend to fly out the window somewhat on names.

It’s weird, but I’ve honestly never hear Bismarck ever be referred to as “controversial”.
has this been a complete remake from an earlier version? they really need to change the ship builder like being able to use older tech and save templates.
I know this a game but was the Bismarck a bad ship in her design, what could have and should have been done differently when building these ships/ designing them. They have 50,000 tones to play with here can the Germans get a good ship.
@BrotherMunro
Жыл бұрын
Yes and no, she was basically a faster version of the Bayern, by the 1940’s her design was a little dated & had a few flaws but still a solid ship. The problem was the Germans in WW2 only had two of them & no carriers at all. Thus she served very little strategic purpose, the money & time they spend on them might have been better invested elsewhere (such as merchant cruisers or u-boats).

Um, shouldnt the North Carolina class be in Division 2? after all it is the US counterpart to the Bismarck, built around the same time, entered service around the same time. Erm I am basically as far from a wehraboo (I guess kriegsmarineaboo in this context...?) as you can possibly get - but I will say that Drach doesn't come off as an entirely honest actor by neglecting the angled turtleback deck (effectively a secondary belt in this game). It's hard to say what's exactly a fair stat to give it in this game due to it's angle, but it's a relatively heavily angled 120mm. I'm basically entirely on board with Drach's assessment of the ship class overall, but for some reason he doesn't like to acknowledge that the class' citadel protection from horizontal gunfire was pretty much unmatched. We're talking 440mm of raw armour thickness before angles are taken into account Also, it's not like Bismarck, or German ships in general are the only ships where this needs to be considered. I only somewhat recently appreciated how the Queen Elizabeths seems to have had a very similar arrangement with technically greater thicknesses of armour (before angles are taken into account). I believe they ended up with 330mm of main belt + the 127mm angled turtleback over the magazines.
@BrotherMunro
Жыл бұрын
This is accounted for in game by the turtleback scheme giving ship’s increased resistance (which reduces damage) and armour quality (which increases the effectiveness of the armour)
@Kr0noZ
Жыл бұрын
@@BrotherMunro I get what your point is, but shouldn't that still be reflected by the "First Inner Belt" being very massive then and the "Main Belt" on the outside being less thick? And the same would go for the "Main Deck" and "First Inner Deck" being switched, as the thin top deck would be the first thing hit by a shell and the heavy lifting is then done by the armoured deck below that (AKA the "1st Inner" as far as the game is concerned? Makes for a weird armour scheme but potentially with interesting results.
@BrotherMunro
Жыл бұрын
@@Kr0noZ so UAD uses an abstraction which is not right but sorta works. The belt is the sides of the hull (the outer layer that you can see) and the deck is the upper deck (so right underneath the planking). The ‘inner’ layers are modelled as part of those with a pen reduction modifier - the game doesn’t actually model the internals of the ship fully. The citadel type just adds modifiers to the armour effectiveness, resistance, flash fire chance etc
