When you drive all the way to Kentucky for chicken, but it's at the place that started it all for an iconic chain: *A small price to pay, for salvation* I was in KFC with my bro when the lights went out...I told him that the circuits were fried
Fun KFC fact: Back when Google Earth became a thing, it created all new possibilities. In 2006, KFC unveiled a new logo, and took advantage of Google Earth by doing a thing called "spacevertising", as in advertising so big it could be seen from orbit. They achieved this by creating a giant logo of the new Colonel in Rachel, Nevada by Area 51 in three months. The "Face from Space" measured 87,500 square feet in area, a face so big it could fit all the faces of other American icons carved into Mount Rushmore. Also bigger than the footprint of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. As part of this new logo, they hid a message saying, "Finger Lickin Good" and if they found it, 10K lucky winners received a KFC coupon for...a dollar. This logo was around for only six months, but its impact lives on
I live about 8 miles down the road. that old restaurant was the Western Sizzling Steakhouse.

Was a western sizzler steak house, burnt after being vacant for quite some time. Hope you checked out Cumberland Falls, it's about 16 miles off exit 25 on I-75 but totally worth.
Nice vlog Jay. I think KFC changed their recipe because it does not taste the same. I usually go to Popeye's now.
Are you still in Corbin???? We live in Corbin!!!
The abandoned restaurant looks like it could have been a Latter-Day Howard Johnson's. Judging by the interior layout and the color of the wallpaper lining the pillars, that would be my guess. I looked at an old wrestler and ponderosa locations brochure and I couldn't find one located in Corbin.

If your in Corbin, KY just off I-75 across from the truckstop... that is an old Western Sizzlin Steakhouse Jay!!! I still see the old red neon lighting running around the soffit of the roof. 👍👍👍. Awesome Presentation Jay!!! I’m just south of Corbin in the Cumberland Gap area of TN!! Come n sit a spell sometime. That coleslaw is good isn’t it? 😋
Hey Jay next time your in Tennessee, near Pigeon Forge drive about 15-20 miles to Chestnut Hill to Bushes Baked Bean Gift shop and Museum and the Restaurant. Sometimes they even give tours of the Bush house across the street. We just recently visited it, such a cool place. Love the beautiful blue antique truck in the front.
I believe that was the Western Sizzlin Steak house or Shoney's.

That abandoned restaurant could had been a Ponderosa. That looks like the old abandon one in my area of western Kentucky. It's really cool what they done to the place in Corbin. We got that Kentucky Fried Chicken playset in Toyland. You heading to Paducah to do the "National Quilt Museum" ? I understand they do let vlogging now from some new vloggers that have passed by our place this year. As you probably know, Jacob and Justin were not allowed to vlog in it a few years back . But I am guessing you heading to Cincinnati for a baseball game.

I live in London right north of Corbin but KFC is in Laurel County. That abandoned restaurant is a Western Sizzlin. Been that way for 10 years. Please let me know when you come through again sometime. I'll buy your lunch (dinner) or Dinner (Supper). Don't say "FAMOUS RECIPE" when talking of KFC, haha. Sweet lightning is the bomb! Lee Cummings of FAMOUS RECIPE chicken was Sanders' Nephew though. Great vlog, job well done! I gotta go in amd see the new addition.

Pretty neat. I met Harland Sanders when I was a kid, but I didn't really know who he was or why I was meeting him. lol That was in Lakewood, California.
I'm hungry for KFC 🍗 now. Dave Thomas worked for the Colonal in Indiana before he opened the first Wendy's Restaurant in Dublin Ohio 😳. You should go there sometime. He also created the KFC bucket.

The abandoned building in the beginning does look like a Ryan’s Steakhouse. Looks just like the one we used to have between Brandon and Tampa
I got one this my town
I was at Corbin 50+ years ago with the Colonel working on a film about him for KFC. Nowhere near as grand then. That mural on the wall at 22:44 of him standing on the hill top with the cane was pulled from a single frame of 16mm film shot in California near San Diego as the sun was fast setting. It was a cold day and the Colonel was a trooper. We landed and pulled the camera off the helicopter mount and snatched this low angle shot real quick racing the setting sunlight. For decades the same shot was on an entry hall wall in the Gardiner Lane corporate training center in Louisville, KY. Not a bad esult for a last minute decision to grab a quick shot at ground level looking up into the pink and magenta sky.
The burnt building was the old Western Sizzlin.
Jay, I haven't been to KFC in over 15 years-after watching your video, I've been twice this week, you need to call them and tell them you need money for promoting them-LOL
I lived for many years in Corbin from 1973 till 1995 and my mother -in-law worked for Kentucky fried chicken 🍗 in the early 1940's and he lived just down the road from the restaurant

Good to see this. My mother was born in 1938 in Harlan, KY. When she was a kid in thr 40s, she and my grandparents stopped and ate at the Sanders Cafe. My mother is now 84 but she has told me about this many times. My granfather worked for Peabody Coal Company at Black Mountsin, KY. Thanks for showing this. Enjoy your journey.
🤩 wow! Now that is something I never seen, a museum with something to eat or on the go. ☺️ thanks for showing that to us. Theirs only 10 KFC restaurants left in the whole state of Arizona. 8 are only located in around Phoenix area. The two are in Northern Arizona, which is Williams, AZ and Tuba City, AZ which is 40 miles from me. The two KFC in Flagstaff had been closed down since 2014…I think? The one in Page, AZ has been closed since 2007 and now that building is a Mexican Restaurant.

We live like two minutes away from KFC!!!
I still have some of my KFC/ Pizza Hut Star Wars stuff from Episode 1. Fun Fact: Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy's, got his start working for the Colonel. If it weren't for Thomas, KFC would have gone under. Sadly, KFC got bought out by a corporation and wanted to take short cuts. Thomas who'd been entrusted with keeping the KFC quality, wouldn't have it, so he ended up being fired. Thomas would go on to create Wendy's. I love KFC!!! Sadly, all of ours are simply garbage now. So seeing this...I know where I have to stop the next time I go through that area! Thank you!
Hello Tampa Jay, you might consider some day to visit the Lincoln City, IN Abraham Lincoln Memorial. paul

I haven’t been up that way in a few years, but that’s always a must stop for me when I’m driving through Kentucky. The extra crispy used to be my favorite as well, but it didn’t taste as good to me the last time I had it. I just stick with the original now, which to me still tastes good as ever.
Annnnnd now I want KFC! 😆
Jay, I agree with you that KFC tastes different from when we kids( well I'm much older than you) but I recall they didn't have fountain drinks ( maybe the 70's) and you can get Fanta soda in cans) with your meals. I do crave KFC now and enjoyed your fun vlog in Corbin! Thanks Jay! 🍗

I wish you were coming my way in Kentucky, but I am sure you are not. Very few vloggers go through my area because it is not right off an Interstate. We are 20 minutes from Corydon, Indiana and I64. Closest "big" town to me is Brandenburg. We have one of the few bridges to cross the Ohio into Indiana. I have been to Claudia Sanders restaurant in Shelby, County and also to Col. Sanders grave in Louisville, but not to Corbin where you were.

Sounds like the Matthew Welsh bridge into Maukport, IN which recently got a well-needed coat of baby blue paint and some paving. Try the catfish or chicken tenders with a loaded baked potato and slaw at Little Dave's in Brandenburg. Little Dave is getting on and I fear won't be with us much longer. Say "Hi" if he's in. That place is so cool. Love fast food history. All the stuff they have on display in there, is awesome. I remember when they had those Episode 1 bucket toppers! The old style spinning bucket sign is sweet. Feel like those bucket signs are a bit of a rarity these days. Great video, Jay!
Great video! I love some KFC. I analyzed the spinning bucket in your video and found that the bucket does 1/2 a rotation in 18 seconds, therefore a full rotation will take 36 seconds. There are 86,400 seconds in a day, so if we divide 86,400 by 36 it equals 2,400. Therefore, I believe ihat bucket spins 2,400 times a day. Have a great day!

Adam and his Dad hit this place a year ago, and it's one of my stops when I visit friends in the area in the future. I actually met the man when John Y. Brown (Future Kentucky Governor) Owned KFC in the early 70s. I was 13 years old and he was a bit grumpy. I know his son took the helm as the Colonel later on but I met 'THE Colonel' himself back then.
