"Red Meadow" is taken from Birthmark's new album, Birth of Omni - out January 19, 2024.
Director & Post-Production: Nate Kinsella
Dancer: Robin Mineko-Williams
Director of Photography: Chris Strong
Color Assist: Koen Holtcamp
Lyrics:
Look at you
Look at me
We were kids
Carlo Rossi
Celebrate your birthday every Halloween.
I’ve been true to you - no makeup.
But look at this
This routine
We only touch when we’re asleep
Dreamt I was your roommate
Yeah, I could play that part but we all have emotional needs
Show me your emotions
I belong to you and you belong above me
We need a meadow to roll in
We need a fire to start spreading
It catches on, catches on
I belong to you, I hold you up above me
I don’t know what I’m standing on
But I know to keep hanging on
Is this you? Is that me?
Is this how we thought it’d be?
The clock is ticking remember we’re living in a little box on a hill there’s a fence and a treadmill
No one gets in or out anymore since closing the only door
We’re living in the daylight longing for the allure of the darkness
I can change my hair, find some new old clothes to wear, sing in a flawless voice to you
Show me your emotions

Ive been a long time listener of all the various acts that have emerged from the JOA family tree. I first got exposed at the infamous Bartlesville, OK show and got to see Make Believe, JOA, Owen and Tim Kinsella a number of times. Collectively, their music over the years has deeply enriched my life and my thinkering. My other favortie band is Tool, so thats a wild contrast, but I appreciate meaning, intellect, good lyrics, creativity and musicianship. Over the years, since we no longer have The Owls nor Make Believe, especially, Birthmark has become my favorite JOA family tree act. Ive always been deeply impressed by Nate and met him a few times and he was a very sweet man in all the encounters I had with him. I highly recommend checking out the Joan of Arc, Dick Cheney, Mark Twain album. I believe Nate did all of the Viola, Piano and Bass guitar on that album, and maybe even other instruments, and he was pretty young at that time. Very impressive. I have LOVED watching the evolution of Birthmark. I remember when The Layer came out, I ordered it on vynil and absolutely fell in love with the music. Very unique while also being enjoyable to listen to. Theres always a softness to his music, a gentileness, a sweetness, and it doesnt come across as obtuse or pretentious, either, and then we get the added pleasure of each album being very unique to itself. Shaking Hands and How You Look When You're Falling Down almost doesn't even sound like the same artist, yet at the same time they do, which is very rare in a genre driven industry. Red Meadow was released on my Birthday this year and with what I had gone through in my relationship this year, it was so easy to identify with and Ive introduced the song to a few of my friends and they also deeply identified with it. So I think Nate really has something here. I want this to blow up for him. He's been around for a long time now and his contributions to the music industry deserves some recognition and commercial success, in my opinion. Fingers crossed that we're getting full album here. I would absolutely love that. May the Universe bless you eternally, Mr. Nate Kinsella. I didnt stumble upon Birthmark's 2nd, 3rd and 4th releases until 2018 when I was at rock bottom at the end of my active addiction and homeless. Your music helped me greatly in that time period, helped give me something to hold onto, and Im eternally grateful. Here's to your big success! 🙌❤️‍🔥

Isn't it??? After listening for a couple of weeks, I really got to explore the depths of the song. It's perfect. Perfect musical art.....off, and the mixing and sound quality. Superb.

I love the vocal effect as well. I wonder if I could message him and find out what he used? I'm not sure how he does his production, if he goes to a big studio or if it's more of something he does at a home studio. It's hard to tell these days, but who ever mastered these two singles was a bad. The sound quality is exceptional.

@@soul_Link12 I'm not sure if he's still active as I am not on Discord as much anymore, but Nate used to come on the Discord server for the LIES project every so often. He was pretty responsive there. 🙂

@mxbray I take this comment as some kind of inside joke. It's been 8 days since song release. This song is amazing. Birthmark is amazing. Nate Kinsella is amazing. I'm just here to pump that algorithm, engorge it a bit, if you catch my meaning.
