Birthday celebrations? I'll bring the fish!!!
We've travelled down to the Auckland region for a birthday celebration and are staying close to the shores of the Hauraki gulf, this gives me the perfect opportunity to head out for a shore dive and see if I could shoot some fish for the party!
I've all got some flash new kit from the team at PRODIVE NZ to try out in the form of a new SEAC wet suit, and a SEAC inflatable float boat so I head out and get stuck into it....

Unfortunately the Hauraki Gulf (inner) is pretty much void of any crayfish. If you are lucky enough to see one it will no doubt be undersized. Ive been diving for quite a number of years and have seen the decline first hand. Im sure we can turn it around but it would need a blanket ban on gathering. Not sure that would ever happen. :(

Yeah I've been diving the area for years as well and seen the decline, the drop in the TSC may help things but I think that there are massive issues with the Hauraki gulf stemming from the pollution that Auckland is pumping into the waters with every heavy rain...Cheers!!!
