Birth Of Critically Endangered Orangutan!
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Long awaited, finally here: Yesterday at 1.30 p.m. in @thezoovienna a young orangutan was born in front of the eyes of the visitors. The last successful offspring of orangutans was almost 20 years ago. The Tiergarten team is very happy. “It is the first cub for 13-year-old Sari, who came to us from Dublin Zoo in 2020. She takes good care of her little one, who spends most of the day sleeping in her arms,” reports the responsible zoological curator, Folko Balfanz.
Now we have to keep our fingers crossed that the offspring will develop well. Because of course the first rearing is always associated with a certain degree of uncertainty. Over the next few days you will be able to tell whether the young animal is a female or a male. Father is the only male in the group: Vladimir. Despite his advanced age of 48, he is still reproductively active. Balfanz: “Vladimir and the rest of the group are interested in the latest addition. In the case of orangutans, however, the mothers take care of their offspring all by themselves.”
Orangutans are on the brink of extinction due to the destruction of their habitat on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. "In recent years, we have constantly modernized the orangutan enclosure to make it even more natural for our animals. When the two females, Sari and Surya, moved in about two years ago, a great functioning social group was created. We are very pleased that all these efforts are now bearing fruit with the offspring," says zoo director Stephan Hering-Hagenbeck.

But they can change in a NY minute. Mom will die for her baby the dad can do some harm. Remember they are wild animals.

@@crim101a oh ABSOLUTELY!!! I've seen clips of these creatures in action, and yes, they can get vicious, as with ANY wild animal!! 🙄
Wow!! To have been a guest at that moment!! Watching Mom and Baby together would keep me occupied for hours. ❤❤
What a privileged world we live in, when we can watch a beautiful scene of a live birth. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. 🤲♥️.

What's amazing to me is that they kiss, love, and care for their babies just like humans do! Yet some still refer to them as "dumb animals"!
For me these orangutans are the most beautiful creatures on earth
Welcome little one she waited so long to meet you and we are happy to see you as well!
Orangutan Mothers are so incredible!! They care for their little ones so similarly to us, especially the way that they hold & feed them & I love to watch them. Gorilla Mums are pretty awesome & care for their babies, holding & feeding, like we do as well. Absolutely incredible!! Blessings to you all!!
Here’s hoping the precious babe thrives and goes on to produce lots and lots of offspring!
Such a proud and loving mama. ❤️
At the Henry Vella Zoo in Madison, WI is home to a new born Orangutan this year.
How precious... this is the meaning of life and motherhood
Beautiful momma with her baby. It truly is amazing to watch them together. Every move she makes is gentle and with thought of her little one. We haven’t made our summer trip to the zoo yet, so thank you for sharing these great videos.
So precious! A joyous event!!
Adorable 🥰. Congratulations 🎊
Happy Birthday Baby. 🎂🐾💖
Beautiful gift from God❤️🙏 Thanks for sharing 🤗🤗🤗🤗💕♥️
Literally a better parent than some humans.
As human beings there is no excuse - we have to save these animals - they are incredible!
Always hoping for a baby girl … they are the birthers and nurturers for their species.
Mom seems to really love her baby.
So adorable, I really hope that you are making sure she is nursing the baby…

Orangutan babies in the wild cling to their mother says that their mother can use both hands to climb. She is carrying this baby like a human. I also noticed that she didn’t have a lot of hair for him to cling to so that could be the reason why she was having to carry him. I also noticed that she is a very good mother.

The babies cling instinctively as soon as they are birthed. This baby orangutan and mother are doing great. Mama knows what she is doing. You cannot compare primates in captivity to primates in the wild. A lot of these primates in captivity have never been in the wild so they are not going to develop and act the same as their counterparts that grew up in a natural habitat. I’m sure you know this already though.
Awwwwwww mommy is in love way to go mommy

I love how careful she is when she's walking around with her
As much as I dislike seeing wildlife in zoos I am thankful for the success of breeding programs and hope they may find their way back to the rainforest - their rightful home.

Usually, an orangutan baby’s first instinct is to cling. This one hasn’t done so in any of the footage...is there something wrong with it or is its reflexes just a bit slow?

Regular monkies are rough with their little ones. Gorillas and orangutans are usually gentle with the babies.

Is it just me or does the umbilical cord seem to have a knot at the end of it at 0:22?? I’m wondering if Mom did this while separating it from placenta or if Vets stepped in to assist. Fascinating!! ❤️❤️

They're critically endangered so these zoos are doing the best they can to give enriched lives to these apes. Zookeeping has transformed in great ways over the decades. Perhaps we can stave off the sixth great extinction... but it's not looking great, fellow Earthlings. 🌏🐒🦍💙🙏🦋🍃✨

@@jstajoy lmao gee thanks for the science lesson... I simply thought it was cute, the similarities between the two different species (and yes, I know our genetics are similar 🙄). Women giving birth unassisted and without medical intervention has a high mortality rate for mother and baby.. my son would have literally died if he didn't have a fetal heart rate monitor (and me as well from hemorrhage/placental abruption) so I really don't give too many f***s about what is common a hundred years ago 👍 the idea is terrifying to me, I'm aloud to have my own opinions...

@@jstajoy you came here and commented purely to try telling me my opinion is wrong and now you're taking what I said completely out of context. I meant compared to my own traumatic experiences then yeah whatever happened 100yrs before that is irrelevant in that moment. Sorry that the strength of women from 100yrs ago made no difference as my son's heart rate stopped. If you respect other people's different opinions then wtf are you doing here trying to counter what I originally said?? It's not that I don't care about anything from the past at all (that's a huge knee-jerk reaction...)but sure keep making stuff up in your head if it helps you feel superior.... If you recognize I'm entitled to my own opinion then wtf did you comment for in the first place? Lmao
