Hi John, Thanks for the excellent tour of Peaky Lofts. Absolutely first class. I really liked your thoughtful use of light and ventilation, and I'll use these ideas to improve my own loft. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of your lofts. Thanks for sharing. Very enjoyable video. Best wishes from Michigan, USA. Cheers mate!

Hi John with regard to your imports you say they are getting on a bit for breeding . A freind of mine keeps my stuff pure and has had young from them up to 15 years old so maybe dont write the originals off to early . If Any of the originals produced top draw stuff I wouldn't be in a big hurry retire them I would be more inclined to go back to them with a top draw younger bird that is closely bred to it maybe try 2 or 3 different top draw birds to the original import that produced for you .Just an idea really worked for me over the years .I never outcrossed them just kept selecting what I thought was the best out of perhaps 40 young birds .only chose for stock at 2 year old .very often just took 1 bird out of each years breeding for stock .That meant in theory the chosen bird had satisfied me that it had the qualities that I wanted and hoped it would pass on to its young .I would have watched this bird fly maybe a thousand times for a minimum of 1 hour often longer so I would have ample opportunity to study it and the rest of that years young birds then as yearlings to make my selection for stock .I never kept a lot of birds my loft is 12 feet long by 5 feet deep that held stock pen 5 feet by 6 feet 8 nest boxes didn't always use them all.3 kit boxes .that's all I had .always looking for a bird I wasn't happy with ?. You seem to carry a lot of birds isit a predator problem. The things that I wanted in my birds was calm disposition .100 % kitting . Concert performance . frequency.not to deep in the roll about 20 footish but control over the roll when at low altitude VERY important to me .good tight rolling .birds that roll in the breaks and birds that set the breaks up .kit goes out together and all land together .birds with vigor not horrible weakly looking specimens .pigeons that can go out win a big competition and keep working for another hour when they land still look fresh not knackered . This is only my take on things lots of other lads might choose a different route. Never needed to starve my birds to get the work out of them this surprised a few people over the years . The work rate and kitting is kind of built in driven by observation of your potential stock candidates .I know this family of birds pretty well and wish you the best with them Ian Birkett.

Hi Ian I grew up in Bradford, moved to Australia 20 years ago, I imported 12 pairs of birds through Kevin McKinney back in 2013 the birds had AERC 2012 rung numbered 4620/4659 . I rang Donna Chantry when I imported the birds she told me the rings were issued to a Bobby Kennedy ( a friend of Kevin). I also spoke with James Brunton he told me the bird’s go back to Frank pickles , Peter Harper, Ian Birkett, Always give credit we’re credit is due . The birds have a great fly pattern, break in big numbers, and frequent and don’t stop working. All good traits for a competition roller. Different weather systems, over here , blue sky’s and pressure systems occasional cloudy days. I’ve been playing with the bird’s around 10 years now . Selecting stock for my back yard and conditions the hard work has been done 👌. We all keep the eyes in the sky’s for the next level. Thanks John

Hi Ian thanks for the background on the bird’s. Good to hear about the pickles hen. I’m sure I hear about the hen getting a return flight in someone’s pocket. If that’s the same bird ? There was a black white flight cock in original imports he has bred some crackers . The original imports are getting a bit old now .I’ve just put them down over first and second gen selected out of the air. What ever comes out will be a bonus. Like I said before the hard work has been done. I’ve got some crackers coming through fast with great depth. I fly cocks and hens separately, I love the consistency of a good hen kit easy to work with . Evan the strike rate when they’re on their on . Watch this space for more videos. Just getting flogged at work at the moment. Good chatting, all the best John Priestley

I would also like to thank you for your dedication to the Birmingham roller pigeon. Especially the interviews with the “old boys” The roller pigeon would not be what it is today. Keep up the good work.

Hi Ray, I’m in Australia the quarantine would make it very expensive. Your probably better off looking a bit closer to home. If you can watch the birds fly and choose out of the air then you know what you’re breeding from.
