Bireli is the best guitar player alive

Just transcribed a bunch of these licks and posted them on my channel. I have a new respect for Bireli after transcribing his solos.

Thomas Dutronc is a great rhythmplayer and a decent soloist. What a fun to listen!

His perfect pitch and photo memory helps lots plus passion/chops makes him as you say! I pity the fool who is satisfied by cloning him using Transcribe 7 for a career!

Oui car birelli lagrene est le maître absolu du jazz manouche.thomas touche sa bille ,dommage qu’il fasse de la soupe mais çà rapporte plus commercialement.

Bireli Lagrene est fantastique....

Thomas is great too, it's a shame you can barely hear him in these videos. It IS nice to watch Bireli's superb rhythm playing. Sometimes he can get a bit choppy for me (as well as taking it WAY out there), but I think Bireli's playing in this video is extremely tasteful. Two big thumbs up.

I've got a Cigano JG-15 I picked up for $350 and it's a great guitar to get you started. I'm sure I'll upgrade at some point, but for now, it gets that sound that is so quintessential to Gypsy Jazz.

contrairement à certains commentaires, je trouve que Thomas se débrouille bien.. leur django's tiger est musical... et puis faut le faire, jouer avec Biréli ! respect.

Tu as raison l'ami. Maintenant Thomas a une vie très confortable et il risque pas grande chose. Mais ... il fallait le faire quand même. Bireli est un musicien redoutable qui fout la trouille ; il est le roi incontestable dans a partie. Non seulement exceptionnel dans la tradition, il a multiplié les expériences dans pas mal de domaines, en s'en sortant avec brio chaque fois.

oui tout a fait,,il est un peut a la traine quelque fois, mais beaucoup a coté de bireli seraient completement a la ramasse. bireli est un monstre, il fallait avoir le courage de se frotter a lui,,bravo thomas

La solidité de la pompe de biréli est folle..il joue sur une aria chinoise à 200 balles..ça sonne sévère tout en décontraction..t as l impression que le gars se fait chier..non en fait il accompagne au gré de des envies tranquillement et le tout en parfaite harmonie avec thomas..il est vraiment très grand..

@@luisdaussat5427 Regardez-la vidéo ou il joue swing 48 avec Thomas Dutronc, vous verrez bien que ça n'a pas la même son et que c'est bien sur cette dernière qu'il a une aria.

Bireli is playing the Selmer that belongs to Thomas. In the other videos he is playing an Aria.

the oval hole has a louder, more cutting sound, while the 'd' hole is quieter and more commonly used for rhythm playing

Not quite true.just thomas dont pick hard.i like more the rythm style guitar for lead playing .you just need to be one of the crafters.(rough picking with gambale sweep picking)and not light weak picking player.

Thomas est vraiment doué, quand on sait qu'il a commencé la guitare à seulement 17 ans et demi, je connais bien les Manouches, on ne peut pas les tromper, s'ils l'ont pris sous sous son aile c'est qu'ils le considéraient comme un des leurs!

So much fucking talent...? Years ago I watched in awe the late Larry Coryell perform solo in a tiny night club & realized what gifted truly means. Of course hard work, but come on..., you got it or you don't.

Bireli's guitar looks like a selmer, and a particularly nice selmer too. Great tone. Im a little upset that Dutronc's sound gets drowned out because of his nylon strings and the camera angle, his solo provides nice melody.

yeah i hear what your saying mate.reason is though ,here thomas is playing a nylon strung maccafferi guitar which dosnt put out alot of volume especially not up againt a selmer guitar with copper plated strings thats desighned to cut through an ensamble.notice when bireli solos how it sounds better(as far as how you can hear it).none the less great playing by both. to all ,keep jamming

Eheh... Cela dit, heureusement qu'on fait pas tous comme toi. Il y aurait bien peu de musiciens sur cette Terre. A commencer par Bireli qui aurait probablement lâché sa guitare au premier enregistrement de Django.

The big hole also called big mouth provide rounder sound with more bass, the small hole (small mouth) provide better clarity. Usually you'll see a big mouth for rythm and small mouth for solo. But not always true.

À voir Thomas Dutronc potes avec des monstres comme Bireli ou Angelo, je me dis que quand on est sympa comme lui on a la chance de jouer avec ces artistes et de faire partie de leurs tournées et spectacles. Mon pote, qui est très mauvaise langue, me dit que parce c'est le fils connu de deux célébrités et qui a du fric. Que penser ?

Que votre pote a mauvaise langue. Dutronc se débrouille très bien, il a une attitude humble vis à vis de Biréli, preuve qu'il n'est pas con, et visiblement ils s'entendent bien puisqu'ils sont chez Dutronc en train de boire un coup tranquilos. Tout ça ne s'achète pas, et Bireli est suffisamment sûr de lui et connu mondialement pour ne pas se laisser imposer n'importe quel accompagnateur (à moins de le prendre pour un vrai con qui se laisserait manipuler par le milieu du show-biz. C'est même le contraire, Bireli est un des moteurs du show biz !)De plus ce n'est pas une vidéo officielle, c'est juste deux potes guitaristes qui partagent l'amour de la même musique et qui boeuffent sur quelques morceaux pendant un apéro.

Plus de 3 ans plus tard, toujours personne pour remarquer la citation du thème des Simpsons. Ce n'est pas le premier à caler ça dans un solo, ce ne sera certainement pas le dernier, mais c'est le seul qui a su en modifier l'allure rythmique pour l'intégrer en toute discrétion à l'impro. Alors, on me dira que c'est pas les Simpson si c'est pas les même durées de notes, que c'est juste un passage en Do Lydien b7, ou en Bartok, mais on ne me la fait pas !!! Ah, oui, c'est à 2:06 pour les flemmards
