Bireli Lagrene's Chords for Made in France and Nuages - Free Guitar Lesson by Yaakov Hoter

Музыка

www.gypsyandjazz.com/bireli-l...
Bireli Lagrene was fun, friendly and brilliant when we played together back in November 2019.
Most of all, he was an inspiration, sending out musical ideas that I’ve been enjoying playing with and I’m very happy to share some of them with you, so you can share the fun and be inspired too.
👉🏼 Get notified when I release my next free guitar tutorial! - SUBSCRIBE to my channel.
In this lesson you’ll learn some very cool chord shapes that you can use over many jazz or gypsy jazz tunes.
Let’s start by learning some new chord shapes (starting at 1:06).
Play the chords one after another. Practice along with me on the video. It’s so nice that you can go back and replay it until you get it down pat!
Chord Solo and Intro (starts as 6:08)
The first thing you can try out is an exercise you can use for free improvisation or as an intro. After each chord, add a phrase using some notes from the chord, maybe an arpeggio, a triad or a lick you know. Use your imagination. Experiment with the skills you’ve learned. Get inspired by the examples I play on the video, such as playing the harmonic minor scale or the Fdim7 arpeggio for E7b9. See what you can get out of this chord progression
Made in France (starting at 07:50)
Next you can see how these chords are applied to the A part of Bireli Lagrene’s beautiful composition, Made in France.
Try to add Bireli Lagrene’s cool rhythm pattern, which I show you in the video lesson at 08:05.
After you’ve practiced it a lot, you’ll feel freer and be able to add more embellishments.
Nuages (starting at 10:20)
Bireli Lagrene also uses these chords in the A part of the chord progression of Django Reinhardt’s well-loved composition and gypsy jazz standard, Nuages. If you don’t already know this song, learn it first, so that you can get the most out of this part of the lesson. Then, see how you can play Bireli’s chords as shown under each line:
I hope my demonstration of Nuages inspires your creativity. I’d love to hear what you do with it and feel free to leave me your comments below, I love hearing your comments and I will read them and answer each one of you.
Keep swingin’!

Very nice. I personally used all of these voicings but the first one, in 2nd and 7th position, as Cmaj chords. Which would make sense of course with the progression and all from a canonical jazz standard point of view. Anyways, just crapping around, good stuff.

  • @GypsyAndJazz

    @GypsyAndJazz

It's the only placement that doesn't feedback on this particular guitar. Sometimes it gives too much high frequencies that you have to cut. It's not perfect but it's pretty good.

@@GypsyAndJazz I recently bought one and am happy with it. I have the treble and mids on 0 and just push the bass a little. I haven't had any feedback issues and can push the volume on my Roland AC 40 all the way (guitar channel not mic). It took me ages to find the sweet spot on my guitar. I attached mine with the 3M tape provided but didn't push it down too hard as I noticed the sound became more 'nasally'. Jokko manouche pickups are supposed to be very natural sounding and quite cheap
