Have a water reservoir up the street from my house probably about 3 miles. And I get beautiful egrets and great blue herons. They can be a little cumbersome because I have to shoot from the side of the road to get the birds and usually I have to use my rf800 mm. But I've gotten some rather good pictures these last few years and it's right up the street so I can go all the time. Recently I was cracking up and walking away in this beautiful eagle fluoride pass my head and normally I would grab my camera but I had missed the shot. Lo and behold he went down and made a u-turn and came directly back in my direction. So I grabbed my Canon R5 with my 800 at-ats to it and started bursting away 20 frames a second. I got some prices pictures and absolutely and thrilled that we now have an evil in our neighborhood. Funny thing is I live 20 miles outside of Charlotte North Carolina and usually don't get Eagles here. I do live in the countryside of Mooresville North Carolina so we have lots of deers, turkeys, coyotes, foxes, and all types of birds. Just today I got a beautiful owl and a hawk in the same Tree in my yard! That's not everyday though and it is rare but it does happen. Thank you for your upload I really appreciate the content

That is so cool that you have access to all those birds so close. We have lots of eagles up here but not always good opportunities for good shots

Love your stuff. I have been shooting from a kayak since 2006 and have run the gamut on tripods or other types of stabilizing rigs. I ended up creating a rig that lashes down to the 'yak in front of my cockpit that uses two sizes of pvc pipe (one slides into the other) so I can pull it toward me and quickly mount my camera/lens on an attached gimbal, which folds up/down as needed. I used button/spring clips to secure certain positions in the slide and an old tripod center post to secure the gimbal to the rig. Although I still shoot most of my kayak shots hand-held, since birds especially eagles are not always stationary, the rig works well and I have been pleased with the results. The rig allows me to move it away from me enough to make paddling easy and stable enough to leave the camera attached for brief intervals. Thanks for sharing!

I've watched your 3 kayak-photography videos, & couldn't figure out how you bungeed-down your 2 rear tripod legs, over the outside of your cockpit (the BTS stuff..!!)...!!...I ended up digging around the internet, & found that your kayak model apparently has duel bungee-paddle-keepers/holders (one on each side)..!!..I'd never seen that before, a kayak with paddle bungees on both sides, but I think that discovery may have solved that question..??!!..You must feel pretty good about how securely those side-paddle-bungees hold down your tripod + camera on top of the cockpit while paddling...??..(as compared to having 2 rear tripod legs inside the kayak., somehow balanced over the hips...??).....Have you ever had any issues or concerns, during setup to get in, paddling, or tear-down to get out...??.....I'm digging around for a set of those paddle-bungee-holders, to DIY-add to my older kayak, to hold a similar camera/tripod setup, if you think they hold the tripod securely..??!!...Also wasn't sure what the bolts/padding on either side of your cockpit were, but guessing they may be padded knee/thigh braces, connected to underneath the cockpit opening, & have nothing to do with tripod bungees..??!!...Just trying to play-catch-up with your cool camera/tripod "behind-the-scenes" photography setup, for a kayak...!!...Really enjoy your videos, with great still pics, beautiful video snippets, & cool drone footage....!!...KUTGW..!!

Because of the weight distribution, the tripod stays fairly secure. There are also bungee cords toward the nose of the kayak where I extend one leg out and tuck it under them. I do not set up the tripod until after I get in and I take it down before I get out. As far as the bolts/padding you are correct, just padding along the edges of the cockpit rim. It is a bit risky, anything can happen but so far I have not had any issues with tipping over or having any equipment fall out. I actually tested it on dry land using some blocks to hold the kayak level while trying different things, and I always have my camera rig in the waterproof bag while entering and exiting. Good luck with your setup!!

I am thinking about buying a kayak for photography and was wondering if a pedal kayak would make the process easier? Are the birds spooked by the paddle noise? Would like to hear your opinion. Great video and now subbed.

Actually I have looked at those. I think a pedal kayak would be better as there would be less noticeable movement.
