You're supposed to slide the lock on the intake/outtake before unlocking the prefilter. That's why it was so hard for you. Over tie you'll break the mechanism forcing it like that. Also, prefilter locks before hoses.

Cool filter those are really nice. I just setup my first large canister filter for a 40 breeder tank. It is really different from the sun sun mini i have been using lol. The large primer button is awsome because the minis dont have that.

Just got this, the prefilter is everything.

Great video! The little Oase Filtosmart I have is super! I’ve been thinking of one of these Biomasters on my 45g. I’m not certain what size I should look at yet, but I really like the contained heater and the prefilter. I lost the Hydor inline on that aquarium and it wasn’t over 5 months old.

I have had the same filter for over a month now and I really like it. I set it up using the coarse, black sponges on the pre-filter tube. Next I have a 2" thick, medium foam piece cut to fit the filter tray. Following that is a 2" thick fine sponge. Trays 3 and 4 have Biohome ultimate. The 5th tray is the medium sponge that the filter came with. As you can see, I am not using an charcoal or floss. I changed out the intake tube to the Aquatop Forza 7 because I like the surface skimmer it has. There is no oil on top of my tank's water at all. Being as the weather has been warm, I have not used the heater yet. I think this filter is more solid than my Ehiem 2075.

Terrific video! Mine arrived yesterday and I'm unboxing it tonight after work. Sadly very excited 😂 What a shame Oasé don't make something to go over the end to stop the shrimp etc going up...

I went for oase because all of my pond setup was oase and It worked really well but the nxt chance I can I'm going back to fluval 405

Hey Sean, thanks for this. While I'm not THAT into the hobby I love watching videos like this and live vicariously through you and your equipment. I started keeping fish around age 8 and while I'm 75 now I no longer have any tanks (can't convince my wife). Believe me when I say there have been so many huge changes in equipment AND the types of fish available to hobbyists. Thanks for keeping the aquarist in me happy. Terry

I have one currently and a few days ago the heater had cracked causing water to get inside it and caused the heater to not turn off so I woke up to the tank being 40c and all the fish died the primer leaks aswell that's a common thing with theese

Don't get me wrong the idia of the heater hidden inside the filter and the pre filter there a grate idia they just need tk tweak a few things

My new 75 planted I was going back and forth between an FX6 or a Oase 600. I got a great deal on the FX6 so I went that way. Plus so easy to get parts for the FX6. Oase I think you can only buy from them or stores that have the stuff in stock. But my new tank I may have to dip into the Oase.

That filter is of very high quality, but I would change the filter material. As you said, its for moving bed filters, so no idea, why they put it in. - Marcus

1 word... Money People are gonna buy Biohome or Matrix anyway, buy 3 liter and just fill it up and a fine pad and your good to go

Looks a very nice filter I am going to try out the aquael ultramax 1000 and it does 1000LH it's new on the market it has eight clamps and you can open just four so you can take out the pre filter and not the rest of the filter and it's got big baskets with handles on and the filter as a 11 L capacity cant wait to put in my fluval roma it cost me £140.00 that's pound sterling not sure how much in dollars I think the filter came out this year your filter is called warze but its spells oase

Awesome filter got one running my 6 foot tank saltwater bad news every time you clean filter won't start again gets air trapped in there just rattling any ideas would be awesome cheers

It's a good quality piece of kit, but it's also grossly over engineered for what it is. Due to the double walls of the canister, the prefilter and the heater, this holds a tiny amount of media for its size. The torturous path that the water has to follow through the filter is also going to impact efficiency a lot.

Anyone else have trouble getting this filter to start? I've set it up. The box is filled with water. I used the prime button and I could see air pumping out through the spray bar. But it won't get going. I don't know if I'm missing some step, if it takes a while, or if I got a bad unit. Any tips, suggestions? This is also the first time I'm using a canister filter. Perhaps there's something I'm unaware of.

A very useful video, thank you. However, if you worked out how the filter worked before filming itwoukd have been half the length and twice as good. Also it would have been good to see how the flow looked in the tank.

Nothing like an authentic first impression.

How would you setup a oddball tank. Iike. Hatchet fish. Also ghost catfish.

thw water is sucked IN through the foam and in through the holes in the tube then up to the large open space and falls to the bottom where it is sucked up through the filters and out to the tank.

What is the smallest size that has the prefilter? I only have a 20 gallon tall but would love the ability to clean the prefilter without disassembling the whole thing.

Fluval canister hoses are the best. They never kink.

Oh, you made me laugh with your clone!! Two months ago, I decided to upgrade some of the filters in my fish room. I decided to go with these Oase filters, and the same model you unboxed. I have five of them, and I love them. I too use the spray bar. And I've set my filters up similar to you. I use coarse foams on the pre-filter. And on the intake, I have a coarse foam sleeve on that. For the bottom tray, I cut my own pads to size from pond foams. I place a medium pad in first and then a fine pad on top of that. For the large trays that go on top of the bottom one, I fill those with Biohome Ultimate bio media. And in the final tray, I cut a pad from a carbon-impregnated pad to place in that. I could have gone with more of the bio media in that tray. I'm experimenting with the carbon pad for now. Thank you for the video.

Is there a update on the Oase Canister filter is it still running very quiet..I just upgraded to a 55 gallon and was going to buy this filter the 350 model like yours .. Is it still running ok ..? i only have 26 small fish Community tank my biggest fish is 4-5 inch .. big i am not adding more fish does the 350 filter take care of the whole 55 tank ok by itself??? with no other filter ? since i am not adding more fish I am wanting to get rid of my 2 hang back filters .. the canister would be better for me and my space to run it only ... the hang back are a devil to remove near the wall and my space with waterin them with the prefilter how often do you need to get in main filter to clean the canister media some say with the prefilter only needs to be clean 2-3 months ...any info would be appreciated thank you very much ....Bev

Yeah actually it’s great. One of my favorite canisters. It’s on a 56 gallon and does really well. I thought the glow was getting real slow at one point but then discovered my prefilter had fallen off and it was clogged with snails. But that wasn’t the filter fault of course. The built in heater also works very very well.

So far so good. The little sponges definitely need cleaning pretty often. But it’s easy to do. I’d recommend a second set to make the chore easier. The integrated heater is great and works well.

Stuff the filter, show us the huge Cthulhu figure on top of the cabinet.

Would you be interested in selling the old fluval? I'm trying to find one of those.

I think this filter is much quieter compared to the Fluval 406

Love my Eheim PRO3e. Not the 4 as much but the 3e is awsome (y) Best is Eheim 2260 (1500XL) Oase is Nice to but not any extrem "new" inovations. Most important is tha biological media. Sponge is usless but cheap... Why no real media from Oase??? Yes sponga works in sertan setups greate but not in an canister and more for sumps.

The mechanical strategy from Oase with this is puzzling to me. The pre-filter is a fine filter, and the interior filters are all coarse. theoretically, the interior coarse filters provide no mechanical benefit, but they would house bacteria.

You've answered your own question. The pre-filter is intended to be mechanical filtration, while the inside of the canister is intended to be biological.

@@JCKCQCRC I guess the reason I am puzzled is because the sponges internally are coarser than the pre-filter, and I'm curious why one wouldn't use additional bio media instead of sponges. I did end up with a 650 by the way. awesome unit

@@Justin-yk3ox The prefilter sponges are finer because they are intended to be mechanical filtration. The internal sponges are coarser as they are biological filtration and since they are coarser than the prefilter they will not get clogged. So you only need to clean your mechanical prefilter sponges and leave the rest of the canister undisturbed. As to using sponges over biomedia, many would argue that a sponge is better than ceramics, K1, etc at housing beneficial bacteria.

With that much sponge. May as well you a sponge filter. And plastic media is useless in a canister. Intake sponge tooo fine In your version, fine filter on top will keep dirt in the media you use, which will block it

I don’t think you can say the plastic is useless. There shouldn’t be much left for the top sponge to block in so I don’t think that’s an issue either. Not a big one anyway.

I own a number of these biomasters. But warning. Do not use the heater version. As good as it looks with heater in the filter. It’s not a good design. Mine broke within 6 months on 2 of the filters. Best to get a thermostat and titanium heater. Use the biomaster on its own

None of the Fluval canister filters has that removable sleeve to make maintenance easier and better. I imagine you'll fluval sponsored

I have no Sponsors. And yes Fluval had an expensive g3 series filter (I bought myself) no heater but same pre-filter concept that I replaced with this one. I’m not sure what your accusing me of though. I like the filter. Like a lot so what’s your point?

HORNET1 the sponge is too fine on the intake, the tube, the holes don’t seem like there are many, They include plastic media. Generally you would use plastic in a moving bed. Ina static system, surface area is key. Why not use scintered glass or ceramic. They don’t even supply it. They install fine foam into the upper most layer, all the crud will be kept under that, essentially the media layer. That will block the media. That heater built into the lid... accident waiting to happen, when you take the lid off and that attached. I just wish some one would design a filter right... straight out the box.... intake foam on the intake... course, med, fine foam, biological. Done. The older filter G3 it replaced, that looks interesting

Monkey Nut Agree with the 60 ppi pre filter sponges being to much... I use 45 and rinse them like every two to three weeks... to have a corse foam on the pre filter then medium and fine in the bottom tray will just mean opening the main body to often. I bought this filter for the easy pre filter maintenance so stuck with 45 ppi on the pre filter. I’ve got the 600 with five trays of biohome ultimate and it’s kicking ass... each to there own though.. I’ve also drilled more holes in the pre filter tube..
