can these worms eat solids produced by biomethane digesters?

Yes. Worms can eat anything which has been living but they have no teeth. Worms can directly consume unstructured foods with a soft, mushy texture. They can even eat the flesh of melons. They also have the ability to excrete enzymes to assist in making particles a more manageable size but most everything they eat has been decomposed by some kind of bioactivity, (enzymes, bacteria, protozoa, fungi, etc.) A biomethane digester operates in a anaerobic environment. Depending upon what was fed to those organisms and what is left as waste (digestate), they "could" very well consume it. That said, there are a few dangers when making the transition from digestate to worm food though. Oxygenation is the main requirement to solve most of these hazards but nutritional factors must also be a concern for a balanced diet and for worms to stay healthy and happy. Their digestive systems requires grit as well. Google: Vermicomposting, vermiculture and other vermi- words.

@@dizzydinonysius great answer thanks what I meant to say was many farms have biodigesters to make Methane can worms then digest what's left afterwords?

@@infocat13 There is virtually no need as the products are already ready to use fertilizers in their own right, but worms could eat it.

@Steven I own a worm farm in Wisconsin and have experimented with feeding solids from dairy manure biomethane digester. The solids must go thru a process that takes it from anaerobic to an aerobic compost by mixing it and aerating it a few times over a period of a few weeks. Basically until the smell that burns your nose in the fresh product is no longer present. At that point red wiggler worms can be added along with enough water to make moisture good for the worms. I found that after the anaerobic and aerobic composting process that the worms consume it and convert to castings really fast. If I had it available I would like to add some fresh liquid manure into the process to increase nutrient content in the final product of worm castings. I have also used dewatered fresh manure that has been dewatered and gone thru a 18 hour composting process. It has a consistency exactly like the digester solids but is aerobic. This can be used for worms immediately once wetted to the proper moisture.

12,000 feet per cubic yard? Did she misspeak and mean to say 12,000 worms?
