Binging with Babish: Shrimp from Forrest Gump Part I
Ойын-сауық
Bubba Gump Shrimp doesn't have to be associated with a horrible chain restaurant in Times Square - it can be the fullest realization of Bubba's love for the fruit of the sea. Creamy shrimp salad, crispy coconut shrimp, luscious shrimp gumbo - join me as I embark upon the first few dishes on the illustrious list dreamt up by everyone's best good friend. And I managed to do it without even a single Forrest Gump impression!

As a born and raised Cajun from the city of New Orleans, I saw my parents make a lot of gumbos growing up. And it just warms my heart to see it done so authentically here. Babish, being from Louisiana, I’ve seen a lot of terrible gumbo recipes that just make me cringe. Thank you for taking the time to learn, and do it correctly. You didn’t stray too far away from a traditional recipe, as I’ve seen other channels do. My only comment is that shrimp stock isn’t preferred in gumbo down here; chicken is the norm. But seeing as you’re making the shrimp video, I totally get it. Thanks for sharing the real thing with the rest of the world. :)
@ilznidiotic

I would add that that was a lot of rice. You should fill the bowl with gumbo, and then drop a scoop on top. And if ya wanted to do it real yat-style, you use potato salad, not rice.

Now the way he did the okra kinda threw me off because if you leave them in slices and put them in there like that, they will be very slimey, so what you want to do is cook them down In a pot for about 1 and 1/2 hours and then add rotel. And let that cook down some more until there is no more slime then you take it off of the heat and let it cool
@PurpletracksStudios

Saffron and shrimp is a great combo. It's also lovely with pasta. Bit of butter in there and you're good.
Babish's videos are the best white noise even if you wake up hungry, then you make the breakfast on the show. It's a self fulfilling prophecy.
Babish rocking to Winwood is what I needed to see today.

for that he would have to do pot and marijuana isnt legal, and if you think Shaggy isnt a pothead, you're seriously mistaken, even the live action movie didnt try to hide what a stoner he is.

Bubba is so great. I love that part of the movie.
R.I.P Bubba! The best darn soldier and cook in Alabama!
As a lifelong resident of Southern Louisiana, I can say that Cajun food is the greatest food in the world. It blends the best elements of the best cuisines from around the world, but is presented in a way that is completely humble.
"That's.. That's 'bout it" love that line
Okay, so this is my high volume "wet-hand-dry-hand" method: Flour all proteins at once. THEN (and only then) get wet mix on your left a and bread crumbs on your right. Thus, left hand: wet-hand, right hand: dry-hand. Source: 10+ years restaurant experience. (NOTE: This method might not be applicable for smaller batches as it might be tedious to reset your work station to bread a few things, but when you're breading 7,000 arancini balls it's by far the most efficient way to roll.)

Oh my god i don't wanna die before trying at least one of this plates
I made the gumbo following the recipe exactly. And oh man it was worth the 3 hour plus prep/cook time. I made a double batch so I’ll be enjoying it this entire week. Jeez it’s an excellent dish. Thanks! First meal I’ve made that is that intense. Thanks for the inspiration!
I was getting an allergic reaction just watching this video. Worth it.
The dance party at the very end was just the capper this episode needed.
“Momma always says there's an awful lot you could tell about a person by their shoes. Where they're going. Where they've been”
Oh yeah. Give it to us! Drown us in shrimpy goodness! *The cooking gods have smiled on us on this day. We shall make a sacrifice of shrimp in their name.*
It's funny how this is my favorite babish episode because of how many styles of cooking are covered in this episode, but 'm allergic to shrimp XD
Just saw this for the first time. WOW. I’m in love with that gumbo. Takes me back to when I went to New Orleans in 2014 for WrestleMania 30.

Love me some good shrimp. I've been binge watching your videos for a few hours now, and even though I already ate dinner, I am hungry as hell.
I get so happy every time you say 'everybody'
Some say part 2 was uploaded and lost in the archives. Others say Andrew has it hidden from us and will reveal it in a time of need. Still others say that Andrew can not handle the immense number of shrimp and fears a coma of pure soul food if he makes another after the gumbo. The world may never know.
