Lovely trip down memory lane. As a child I binge read Bobby Brewster, The Bobbsey Twins, Malory Towers and Nancy Drew. Dare I say it a phase of Barbara Cartland in my teens 😮 How wonderful it is when you find a new series and anticipate all those wonderful reading hours to come. Thank you.

Great video as always Louise. I've been an avid reader since the age of 4 ,I was a 70s child and remember my grandparents buying me a 5 book series with titles like Call of the wild, Heidi, The wizard of Oz, Kidnapped and the wind in the willows. I read them one after the other and nowadays I do dive into a large series but occasionally read another book then go back to the series I was previously reading. You're right binging is brilliant! 😊😂

I adore watching you talk books. I love the fact that you have a wealth of experience, honestly it's a joy!! I couldn't agree more about the long book/binge series and spending time in these people's lives, you just grow so attached and immersed. One of my faves is Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series for light hearted book world joy. The Northern Lights series are a complete binge series for me too and I just loved Anne of Green Gables. I want to reread them soon. My copies are in my mum's loft and it's a bit crowded up there 😬😬 I'm dying to find time to start the Alison Weir Six Wives series as I think I'll love it. Take care ❤

So many lovely memories from this video. As a child I also read Laura Ingalls Wilder, Narnia, Earthsea and also loved Magic Faraway Tree when even younger. Again I am putting so many of these titles on my lists. I must say that the Shardlake mysteries have become my favorites of all time. I have spread them out to read one every fall or winter and he puts me right there. I am so afraid to be done with them. In addition I looked at the front of the Willard novels and they remind me so much of my beloved Victoria Holt, whom I used to read on my beach vacations in youth. I am still collecting and reading those so I will add Willard. Also I was always adding a James Herriott novel to my nightstand, as they can be read in pieces and involve people who are friends like you mentioned. If you remotely like science fiction, an oddball is the Murderbot diaries by Martha Wells. They are mind opening and also snarky.

I love binge reading!! And you have so many of my childhood favourites here!!! I loved The little house books, Swallows and Amazons, Narnia, The Dark is Rising, Alan Garners books , Children of Green Knowe ....etc...so many! This way of reading really set me up for life and I love a good series . Historical fiction, fantasy, all of it! ( though I'm not so in to crime) Have you ever read anything by Juliet Marrillier? I think you would really love her writing. She writes historical fantasy, I guess but the fantasy is very light. Kind of fairytale-esque. She has such strong characters, often female. She has quite a few series and , I think, one standalone. I highly recommend her Sevenwaters Series but all of her books are great!! Totally bingable ❤

We are definitely similar in age and I read many of the same books as a child. I remember reading the Little House books as a child. I also have the December double of birthday and Christmas, so I know exactly what you mean. I loved our town library and the times that my mother would randomly bring me home a stack of bookstore books, it was never just one but she always brought me home several at a time. Other books I loved then was the Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Bobbsey Twins, and even remember finding The Five Little Peppers and How they Grew at my grandmother’s house (I still have that one!). Such great memories. Great video musings.

I remember "The Jewel in the Crown"! We had the Video-Cassettes in our library. I did not know, that it was a book. I'll see, if I can get it. For some reasons I remember the younger sister Sabine "They are butterflies, caught in a web". Also, a lot of the books you mentioned, I have binge-read as a child/Teen. First in german (since I am german), than later in english. For a while now, I've been binge-hearing the classic-crime collections, with forewords by Martin Edwards. My Patents and I also read a d re-read Georgette Heyer. Love-and crime-stories. They read in german, I read in english, but I startet in german, so we can talk about them. I binged the HBO series Rome with my neighbor one summer. It is fun to binge watch series with someone, because you can disscuss them, & theorize where the story is going next. It is like spending time with friends when you become so invested with the life of the characters! 😃📚📚📚

Hi Louise 🤓👋🏻 a lovely & interesting ‘binge trip’ 👍 Starting with your last title - I read ‘The Cazelets’ books around the start of lockdown & they were a ‘sanity saver’ 🥹 (so enjoyed them all & then I passed them on to my friend who felt the same). I’ve read the first two books in the ‘Shardlake series’ by C J Sansom & must get back to the third; although I think my oldest son has it & the next couple!! I recently found one of the last novels in a charity shop which is always a bonus! One of my earliest memories of binge reading are the epics by Susan Howatch (eg Penmarric) & her brilliant duet The Rich Are Different & it’s sequel The Sins of The Fathers (read those twice & have copies for a third reading sometime 🤞)

I loved One Good Turn! I have also had to listen to Mustang Sally halfway through this video. Can I recommend The Eighth Life by Nino Haratitchwili. The history of twentieth century Georgia told through one family. It's a wonderful novel, and at nearly 1000 pages long, it should keep you going.

There’s a signed copy of The Ghost Ship awaiting you in ‘Louise’s Room’. I feel like you know all my binge reads of my younger years 😂 I don’t do it much, binge reading, as an adult and I should. I need to think of some series I would like to binge. Kate’s first series is high on the list. I think I would like to binge a crime series at some point soon too. Ps. Was this sponsored by the Sussex tourist board 😂😂😂😂

Oh yes The little House on the Prairie series, Narnia series, I remember The Borrowers too. As a child Enid Blyton and then when older Trixie Beldon were big favourites, Roald Dahl books etc. Series that I remember when I was a young adult, Dune, Saga of the Pliocene Exile, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant and Colleen McCollough's Rome series. I don't tend to read series like that anymore, but I do love Elizabeth' Strout's Lucy and Olive series.

For more medieval monks run amok - Susanna Gregory's Matthew Bartholomew Series! I do think that as a child we are more likely to want to binge and stick with a single author because when younger your knowledge of authors and books is more limited - so if you are allowed to ask for a book at the library or a store - you would ask about what you already knew - plus you are just starting to determine what you like.. BUT then after years of reading we want them all - but time and money does not always allow for us to read the same author/series or straight up binge. I have several series that I have started that I want to keep going with - but the authors seem to produce more books than I can read, and then I learn about new series or authors...

I'm less of a binge reader than you, but I did read all Dickens novels over about 2 years, no other reading. And last year, I read a Shakespeare sonnet every day. And a few years ago, I read Carol Drinkwater's memoir series about her country home near Cannes called The Olive Tree series. Mind you, the latter is no Dickens or Shakespeare, but its a helluva lotta fun.

I loved the Laura Ingals Wilder books and I'm an older generation than you. I have a book by her daughter in the Kindle stack to get to eventually, Let the Hurricane Roar by Rose Wilder. Daphne's Mom was horrible in the series. I'm reading a 1991 novel, Horses of Heaven set in that part of the world, written by a Cambridge classics graduate Gillian Bradshaw, she probably studied the same works as you.❤

As a child I binged Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Laura Ingalls/Little House series, the Goosebump books, and the American Girl books. As an adult, I rarely binge a series. I’m too moody a mood reader. The closest I’ve gotten in years was having read the first “Thursday Murder Club” a few months ago and I just finished the second one last week. I’ve been eyeing the third one every time I go into the library.

Growing up we could not buy many books. I made up for it as an adult. I loved reading The Jewel in the Crown series and I inhaled the tv adaptation. I love reading books set in India. I too love the Jackson Brody series. I hope to read Dissolution soon, and I would also like to start on Kate Mosse’s series. I loved the Wolf Hall series. There is a crime series written by Elizabeth George: the Inspector Lynley mysteries. I think she has released 21 books. It is a fantastic series I would recommend reading in order.

I try to binge book series, but it's easier for me to binge shows and movies than books. I think because a lot of series I would have to wait a year or longer before I got the next and I'm used to not reading the next book right away. I want to break that habit, because most of the series I have are continuations of the story and I'll forget things.

  • @louisesavidgemuses4135

@@louisesavidgemuses4135 That might help, but the only problem is my library is small and doesn't always have next book in the series. I might have better luck at the closest book shop. I was able to get most of Bernard Cornwell's Saxon series.
