Johnny Mercer was one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
"Yippi kay oh kay eh" de esta peli sacó la frase Bruce Willis para su personaje de la Jungla de cristal.
That captured a slice of history, including Crosby's reluctant dance!
That's Roy Rogers 0:34 - "never roped a steer 'cause I don't know how". He's so young. Little did he know what fame awaited him. That's Bob Nolan who comes up after Roy, from Sons of the Pioneers. Wikipedia "composer of numerous Country music and Western music songs, including the standards "Cool Water" and "Tumbling Tumbleweeds."
Wow that was amazing, can't stop grinning
I just found this jewel!! Music doesn't get any better than this. I don't know that I've ever seen Roy and Bing together. Great music is timeless.
Good job to Mr. Mercer for writing this masterpiece
Leonid Kinskey (the bartender from "Casablanca") at 1:27. My mom's repertoire of novelty tunes included this one, "Ragtime Cowboy Joe", "I Didn't Know The Gun Was Loaded" and many others. Today was her birthday.

May God Bless Her Sweet Soul, your's too ya old fart! ...Great tunes!
So much of the music from that period is wonderful. Bing, Louie, Roy and Bob Nolan. I love this video!!!
I feel really old, I came here because I remembered this song from an I Love Lucy episode.
Came here for the bazooka! Internet vagabonding brought me here. I somehow started reading about some space exploration news (don't recall why), migrated to the Hayabusa2 asteroid mission, that included mention of a shape charge explosive to kick up a soil sample. I then accidentally mouse-rolled over the words "shape charge" and an image popped up to catch my attention. I visited Wikipedia for Shape Charge after which I came across mention of the bazooka. That entry took me to other notes about the term, bringing me to the truly unique instrument created by comedian Bob Burns, which he plays in this song. BTW, the notes are not controlled by the length of this instrument. That is done with the lips. The *quality* of the notes changes with a change in length, so you change the type of sound by using the slide.
Playing this for my 2 year Granddaughter Berkeley she just got a negative test for covid 19. Yippie
Bing Crosby said "Yippee-ki-yay" before it was cool.
Is that a young Martha Raye?! Wow🤔😄
similar tune to "brother, have you brought me hope, or have you paid my fees, or have you come to see me hangin' from the gallows tree..."
It's fantastic! I could listen to this over and over.
The curly headed guy wearing chaps is Leonid Kinskey. He went on to play Sasha the bartender in Casablanca.

I'm an old cowhand from the Rio Grande But my legs ain't bowed and my cheeks ain't tan I'm a cowboy who never saw a cow Never roped a steer 'cause I don't know how Sure ain't a fixing to start in now Oh, yippie yi yo kayah, yippie yi yo kayah I'm an old cowhand and I come down from the Rio Grande And I learned to ride, ride, ride 'fore I learned to stand I'm a riding fool who is up to date I know every trail in the Lone Star State 'Cause I ride the range in a Ford V 8 Oh, yippie yi yo kayah, yippie yi yo kayah Yippie yi yo kayah, yippie yi yo kayah We're old cowhands from the Rio Grande And we come to town just to hear the band We know all the songs that the cowboys know 'Bout the big corral where the doggies go We learned them all on the radio Yippie yi yo kayah, yippie yi yo kayah I'm an old cowhand (Oh yes, Mr. Bing) (Too hot for you, Uncle Fudd) Down from the Rio Grande Oh where the west is wild all around the borderland Where the buffalo roam around the zoo And the Injuns run up a rug or two And the old Bar X is just a barbecue, yeah Yippie yi yo kayah, yippie yi yo kayah I'm a pioneer who began from scratch I don't bat an eye in a shootin' match They don't call me Elmer, they call me Satch Yippie yi yo kayah, yippie yi yo kayah Get along little horsy Get along little horsy Yippie yi yo kayah, oh

All of those great stars! Love Leonid Kinskey, who played Sascha, the bartender in Rick's Cafe Americain in ''Casablanca." This is a gem. Thank you for posting, nicoley133. You've made my day.
I've seen part of this on the Johnny Mercer documentary but this whole thing is super! Louis Prima and Roy Rogers!!!!
After watching the movie 'Die Hard', I tried to remind friends that its 'yippie yi yo kayah' NOT 'Yippie yo kayah' as Bruce Willis spoke it in the movie. Of course no one was interested in my picky criticism - but I was, dang it. I really don't care (much) that Willis' line was wrong and really, what does it matter ? Well to me it did and now, finally, after all these years I have been vindicated !! My real problem was that I could not remember where I knew the line from (prior to watching 'Die Hard') although I suspected it was from a Saturday morning viewing of one of my favorite TV shows starring Roy and Dale Evans back when I was just a little kid. However, until the internet came along, I didn't even know where to start looking for the correct answer to my long held assertion. Now the problem is, I have no one to share this with, my friends from back in the day are now all gone. So now I share this with you, the stranger(s) who may one day read this comment. I can't imagine that I'm the only person on this planet who noticed this tiny slip of tongue or error in script writing. Leave it to me though, the 'you always have to be right' guy. Hopefully I've provided the answer for those similarly afflicted schmucks out there like me ... I mean, could I be the only one ? Really ? For the other searchers, may you stumble upon this and may it bring you, at long last, the sought out relief you desire. Its been my pleasure and you're very, very welcome comrade. This video was posted 11 years ago. Had I only seen it then, how much sooner I would have been relieved ! Just in case you're wondering what the heck I'm going on about. Bruce Willis was voted #46 in the '100 Greatest Actors of all Time' list for uttering these words - incorrectly - in the 1988 movie 'Die Hard'. THIRTY FOUR years I've been haunted, tortured .... but TODAY.... today I'm finally relieved of my suffering !! Thank YOU nicoley133, thank you, thank you !! *BTW, nothing against Mr Willis, I wish him all the best ! Its just that I was RIGHT dang it !! So, anyone wanna go see a film with me ? No ....? 🙂
Louis Prima young. What a surprise, what a man.
So much talent in this number!
"I spend all my time at the hotel bar / with the plantar's punch and a big cigar / and even my horse is a movie star, yippee yi yo kay hay" -- yup, capturing America as it had become at one point. Back in the day when Dan Hicks And His Hot Licks had two female singers, they recorded a version of this song where the two women hit one of the most absolutely perfectly blue notes I have ever heard on the word "band" in the line "and I come to town / just to hear the band". If you can find that version of this song, check out how they blues that phrase in this great, great American classic.
Great video. Haven't saw this movie since I was a child.
The ill-fated Frances Farmer is the pretty blonde in the background She said this was one of the films she really enjoyed making...Seeing these song/gagsters cutting up you can well understand the fun they had on the set...
You might look for Montana Moon next, Joan Crawford's strangest movie. A blend of cowboys and city slickers that has to be seen to be understood.
0:32 Roy Rogers, uncredited and before he became famous.
Louie Prima's trumpet sound is all his
It's an interesting group! Glad you got to see it. :)

Most actors who play movie cowboys aren't convincing as cowboys...that is the real deal, out of American history cowboy. Which is fine by me, because I'd rather watch movie cowboys. There were better movie cowboys than Bing, I'll grant you that. Still, I've always been surprised Bing didn't do another picture or two in this vein, considering how many hits he had with western songs.

From what I read in his biography Bing was actually one of the best horsemen in Hollywood among actors. But he felt the audience wouldn't buy him and/or didn't want to see him in cowboy roles.
