Bing always the ultimate gentleman in duets consistently making his partner shine. Wish there were dozens more Bing/Ella duets.

the first half of his lengthy career was mostly about solos on records, and radio, but the second half was largely about duets with the who's who of jazz, pop, standards and the American Songbook. Literally everyone did a duet with Bing whenever a chance permitted. You are right about him being generous, but his voice got softer and softer as time went on, so the other half of the duet had to be careful not to drown ol Bing out. I most enjoyed his duets with Dinah Shore the chemistry style even their accents seemed to compliment.

Bing and Frank weren’t the best, but the most famous. They helped spotlight a genre that (for racial reasons) wasn’t mainstream. People like Ella, Billie, Pearl, Nat, and Louis never truly reached their potential bc of racism.

@Caitlin Pierson If you were older, you wouldn’t make those statements. They were young, vibrant entertainers, with Bing starting in the early 20th century. Bing is also the person that made reel to reel recording in the studio possible. Ella was in a class of her own, and the world loved her. She could sing beautifully into her senior years, as is evident here. Same for Bing. How is your voice?

I’d say they’re equally matched. Keep in mind that this was later in Bing’s career too. His early recordings demonstrated the pinnacle of what the human voice was capable of.
