Crew & public safety is paramount, no bin (or cargo) is worth risk of injury or death. • Don't be afraid to say no. If a vehicle or load is unsafe, hazardous or doesn't feel right, refuse to drive it. It is your licence, your lifestyle & livelihood at risk. • GOAL, if in doubt Get Out And Look

  • @wheelerd02

    @wheelerd02

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well spotted on the Terberg equipment Bins would only fall if they were damaged or had bent lips on the front edge Other than that the lifts were consistent. Vehicle to Vehicle differences are very apparent Uneven lifting on bulk/twin mode 1 fast lift 1 slow Auto mode getting knocked out once at the top Sensor issues The new 2020/21 vehicles have fully electric lifts. I believe they said "Patent Pending" on the back. Quite a severe lift action that could rip the bins out of your hands and rocket them up much faster than other equipment. You had to keep your wits about you

    HGV 2 driving is straight forward. It helps if you have driven larger vehicles previously of course. I say this due to my prior experience but even for new starters it is something that can picked up with confidence and training. Height, width, weight and length are considerations to be continually mindful unlike a car which you point and go anywhere. Tail swing, mirrors sticking out, heavy loads, tall roof/box/wind deflector all act as jousts against lampposts, buildings, cyclists and other road users. Leave plenty of space when overtaking, assess the distance needed and run off and thing about how your vehicles speed and size affects others. If you're looking at training, go for 5 days not 4. For the sake of a small saving you're cheating yourself out of a day of training. I would rather go into an examination/assessment with as much training and help as possible before attemtping a test. Retest fees are high yes, however circumstances on test day may necessitate it. The test itself doesn't have to be passed first time, it does not guarantee a better qualified driver due to first time pass. Keep calm Be attentive Buy books, watch videos etc Try it enjoy it and stay safe

    0630 - 1630 was the rota/paid time. Some days done earlier, some days later. Black bins were normally quicker than recycling, especially cardboard. There js *always* time for a break, if you are running about and skipping legally required breaks as you say then your gaff isn't scheduling work correctly or fairly. Job isn't worth it nor does it pay enough to run yourself into a early grave. Although there is an early finish incentive to rush, my employers back then said don't run the rounds otherwise they'll pile more on you. Running yourself ragged just to finish that late isn't worth it, you're making someone at desk have an easier life.

    To have that skill blows me away. To get the lorry exactly where it needs to be is impossible and you’ve crushed it!

    Your local council will have an employment portal or they may use an external employment agency to supply staff. Ask your binmen during next collection to confirm

    I’ll never understand the negative mindset people have towards refuse collectors

  • @wheelerd02

    People immediately assume that refuse staff are inferior/failures/criminals or otherwise "down and outers". I have met some very decent people in my time there who worked very hard and had a good work ethic. If only the wider population would take just a few seconds before casting judgement on others we would live in a better, more peaceful world.

    The smell isn't that bad, rarely notice it. Hot days, human waste or food left in bins is when the smell gets a bit high, other than that it isn't _that_ bad smell wise.
