    You did a great job with this KZread video. The drone view of the washboard AZ road, side by side comparison of the original versus new shocks in operation, FLIR data and the replacement procedure...WOW!. I just drove down a washboard AZ road tonight in a 1996 GMC Z71 Sierra and thought it was going to shake the fillings out of my teeth. I always wondered if I should replace the factory shocks with something better. You answered my question. Thanks!

    Thanks I appreciate it. It is a German company so SHTINE would be proper .I took German in high school thus I am an expert. Just kidding, I did take German, but I am probably on 3rd grade level at this point. Anyway, I try to pronounce things properly. Who knows if I am right. Its like Porsche being pronounced Poorsh or Porshah. Anyway. I appreciate the positive comment. The 6112's should be on the way soon. I spoke with Bilstein and they will be released for the K2XX trucks VERY soon.

    I just ordered these and the 6112 (new model 6112 that starts at 1.85") for my 18. Question. (I'm sure the packaging will tell me.) But GM rear shocks are typically mounted shaft up, shock body down. I've noticed you and many other folks mount these 5160s body up, shaft down. Is that intentional because it's bilsteins specified? Or is it something you tested and determined was better? Just curious before I tackle my install. Though admittedly, rears are easy haha.

    I have the whole front and rear kit on my tacoma and the feeling in the ruff trail is awsome due to the front strut (way better) and the rear appear to be welder to the road especialy in fast curve in inegal paved road. The big problem is the finish quality! The paint is really ...cheap If your truck see the winter, 1 winter and it is over, they will be rusted like hell!

    Hi there, I have 2017 GMC Sierra all terrain x and I want to make my ride smoother. Truck tends to go sideways on bumps so putting Bilstein can prevent that.. ride is stiffer with rancho and I can feel every bump on the road while driving. I never drove Denali , does magnetic shocks gives a smoother rides.

    So 5160 reservior shock vs. Fox 2.0 non res. Which one is better off road?

  • @GearsGadgets

    @GearsGadgets

    5 жыл бұрын

    I have never tried to fox shocks but I would think the reservoir 5160 will be better than a non-reservoir of a competing brand. I think the Fox 2.0 is just a bit of an upgraded standard shock but wont have the same cooling capability of the reservoir shocks. This is just my opinion since I am not a suspension pro.

    Definitely smoother and more composed over bumps. I can tell the difference not only off road but over things like speed bumps are a big difference too.

    I havent ever run the 5100’s but the added oil reservoir of the 5160’s certainly help them run cooler and would lead to better performance. If price is a big deal for you I think the 5100’s are fine but for me, when I do these kinds of projects I always spend a little more since I am already making the time and effort to do the work.

I have a 2014 Silverado, and after watching your mini series I am extremely geared towards not even telling the service department about this and waiting for a true fix. I have extended warranty, but with all the trouble you faced while under Manufacturers warranty, I imagine I wouldn't get anywhere close to having them "fix" it. 2wrdr i had a 2008 Silverado single cab with bisteins 5100 all around. The truck felt much responsive to bumps and potholes and the truck going sideways running over potholes was minimal. From my experience, I highly recommend you get some bilstein shocks.

    A S I don’t think shock facing front or back is a thing but I could be wrong. As long as the fittings are clear of obstruction and the hoses are clear I don’t see how that makes a difference. Theoretically I could see bolts being an issue as they are angled and if the nut backed off the bolt could drop out vs the other way the bolt would possibly stay in (could still walk out). The directions I had didn’t mention facing shocks in any specific directions.
