Funniest thing is, the slight detractors, this was a featured song on an 80s sitcom....that's when I first heard it, and it moved me. Perhaps a "mediocre" song to deaf ears, but it hit me then, and still hits me today. And the fact that She got just as moved, tells me, maybe a mediocre song...but it's an important and impactful song. Say what you will....but a Good song does that.

Billy Vera’s “At This Moment” is a song that was made famous on a show called “Family Ties”. Written in ‘77, no one had interest in recording it. A writer for an episode on Family Ties happened into a bar in LA where “Billy and the Beaters” were playing this song. It just so happened that he was looking for a sad song for the end of the show’s ‘85 season and the start of the ‘86 season, and has fate would have it, he accidentally walked right into it. Billy and the Beaters recorded the song in a studio, till then they had only a live recording of the song. Once the show aired it took off on its way up the charts. The song is about a girl he met who described a breakup she’d just gone through. She was so descriptive about it that he went back home that night and wrote this song, but he wrote it from the guys point of view, what he must have been feeling. However, for 9 months he never could come up with an ending to the song. Billy ended up falling in love with that girl who told him the story. She eventually broke up with him and that’s when he was able to finish the song, and it’s most famous line…”I’d subtract 20 years of my life”. It’s weird how life plays out sometimes.

If you liked At This Moment listen to My Heart Cries . I’ve known billy for a long time ( I was a bouncer at the 12/20 club in Hartsdale NY ) many years ago. Billy was known as The Eyed Soul Singer. At that time I was going for a divorce , and it made a big guy feel like S-t .I saw billy this summer and I asked him if he could sing My Heart Cries and unfortunately for me his band didn’t know the song and he hadn’t even thought about it . When At This Moment Hit the charts I was glad for Billy , my kids were teenagers at the time and they heard me talking about the good old days many times and that I was supposed to go to California with billy but obviously I didn’t. It’s amazing how he still sound,s the same and how popular he is in the music industry. He has written many songs for many famous people. You might want to check out his biography. It is very interesting and as I said if you like At This Moment you will love My ❤alert Cries. Thanks for reading this.

I heard this after I caught my first son's mom in bed with one of my friends and although I am a rather reserved man it gutted me. 6 months later we got back together and 6 months after that it happened again. Yes I loved her with every fiber of my soul but decided the repeated loss was too much, the pain was not worth the ecstasy. A decade later I found my soul again, dated, married and we just celebrated our 35th anniversary. This song will always be part of me because when something guts you it becomes personal.
