From what little I know about the history of Billy the Kid it seems he was no worse then anyone else involved in that time and even the law there was corrupted by the Santa Fe Ring, in fact for a while Billy was a deputized marshal in the regulators, that much I heard was true. In fact little is actually verified about Billy.

It's true he was just demonized by the media of the time. He was more a kid who was thrown out of his home and got caught up in a violent war because he was protecting or avenging his friends. He never killed anyone who was innocent and was just trying to get justice in a corrupt land where the law was doing the bidding of the true criminals.

@oceanside1322 It was different times back than surly the movie romanticize his life and helped his image but I think many people see Billy as symbol of freedom, being a free man doing what he wants instead of being stuck with 8 till 5 job which is to most of us boring. He obvious had courage, a Kid with courage most man don't have. He didn't have to put up with; corrupt politicians, Arabs gone crazy, gas prices, china imports.. ect

The first singer sounds like Bob Dylan and the second one is definitely Pete Seeger. I do believe the original artist was Woody Guthrie. All three of these men are very much connected in their music. If its not Dylan then its Arlo Guthrie.

Hi Jimmie Driftwood covered it as well, short and sweet, with slightly different lyrics: "...with a curse on his lips and a knife in his hand, at the age of fourteen, he killed his first man...he wanted to die in his boots, and he did; and that's the true story of Billy the Kid". kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGFo0KeoipaXnKQ.html
