Billy The Kid, by Drone

Ғылым және технология

Lincoln county war sites, by drone, with interesting visual locations and facts included along with basic forensic measures and maps.
Watch this video and actually whole documentary set before watching mine, the context lines up shockingly well. • War In Lincoln County ...

the top reason for making this movie was I wanted to give Young Guns movies fans a way to see the real locations. Since I was very young I always wondered for example what Billy's courthouse looked like, and especially stinking spring etc. The place where Buckshot Roberts got down on one knee: lets dance! To be standing on the exact spot at Blazer's Mill in the video gave cold chills up and down my spine for two hours straight as I walked around looking for Dick Brewer's gravesite. The footage of me walking up on Dick and Buckshot's grave is the live-time discovery filming for the location, it wasn't mapped back then anywhere. you had to know locals who knew where things were. In my case, a very very very smart and nice man from a fruitstand new Glencoe NM was a powerful location reference: his grandfather was Sanchez, the original land of the John Tunstall kill site was his grandfather's land. ~His grandfather knew the kid~ Developing all those friends, locations, secret access trails took many many separate visits to Ruidoso NM and surrounding areas. There are special people who hang out in Lincoln especially at the historic sites. Chances are if you see someone whose pants are tucked into their boots, and they have a handlebar mustache + a belt with bullets around it, you might want to see what they know and are willing to chat about. some of them are landowners of historically-significant sites.

Amazing Video! Idk if they still had this option when u went but I went out there in 2009 w/college friends & we got lucky enough to speak to direct descendants of Pat Garrett the 3day event had us on horseback in old western style clothing with the trail food of the time & also authentic rifles & pistols from that era they were non functional of course but we camped under the stars in sleeping bags beside a fire in spots The Kid & other Lincoln County Regulators were known to have camped. The tour was called "Ride the trails of Ol New Mexico w/Billy The Kid & The Lincoln County Regulators" that's where we got to meet Garrett's Grandchildren & his great grandchildren. The only 1 I wanted to talk with was 1 of his Grandchildren BC he grew up hearing the stories of his Grandpa Pat by other family members of exactly what happened that July night in 1881 at Fort Sumner outside Marshals Store & from what Jarvis Patrick/J.P. Garrett told me in 2009 & he was just 50yrs old so he wasn't senile or anything but he did sadly pass away in 2015 at just age 56. However when I was out there I also took a DSLR camera & with the persons approval I wails ask to do an interview & just ask a few questions & I was expecting J.P. to say "no thanks" BC let's face it he probably couldn't go a day without a question about the Kid & I figured he was sick of it but to my surprise he agreed 100% & instead of a 10min video we sat for 90 minutes total BC he was giving me such awesome stories I didn't wanna stop & his wife warned me before that "you'll be there a while BC J.P. Loves his heritage & telling stories about his family to ppl who are interested is his favorite thing." That didn't matter to me BC what I was told in the last 15mins of our talk SHOCKED ME! This man said a few times during our sit down when I asked "what about that night in Ft Sumner?" He would say "that's coming don't worry" so I was patient & boy did it come! J.P. Said that his father & other great aunts & uncles all told him that Pat told the stories of his Wild West days to them when they were younger. He said they were told by Pat Garrett himself that the only regret he had in life was turning his back on The Kid & picking money & power over his friend BC 1st & most of all they were PALS before money & power got to Pat & made them enemies. Then the bombshell was he said "I really wish I would've looked The Kid up after that night in 1881 at Fort Sumner just to be able to look Kid in the eyes & apologize to him & shake Kids hand for stabbing him the back & also tell him that yes he line the man he put in the ground wasn't Billy & that he shot Billy Barlow since it was night out & after he killed Barlow he was immediately put in a box & buried next morning at first light that way he could say it is Billy The Kid & no one would doubt a sheriff so they buried Barlow & Pat said he could've gotten The Kid but when he seen Billy that night The Kid was not armed so he wasn't going to just murder an unarmed man so he didn't & got Barlow instead who closely resembled The Kid. It was told that he did it BC when he seen The Kid & he wasn't armed he knew they were almost like brothers & Billy was like a kid brother so he let him go. He said that's the only regret BC to his last day he never knew if Billy was aware that Pat let him live when he seen him unarmed & shot Barlow & passed the closed box off as Billy or if Billy thought he got away free by a mistake on Pat! The last thing I was told Pat said is that had The Kid been armed the he would've had to shoot Kid in the back BC Pat knew he couldn't beat The Kid on the draw in a showdown & for that matter not a lot of ppl could beat Kid! Videos of interviews are on my channel!!

Hey that’s spot on. I wish I could go back and do some sound down/voice over updates in areas and still keep my link and counts, not sure if that’s possible yet. I want to tell the story of certain sites I didn’t just roll up to and film, some were months and weeks in searching, camping out, seeking permission, weather delays I’m not joking it’s a mini adventure just describing finding the tunstall site and especially 100% stinking spring. There are no custom shots of SS on KZread other than the older 90s documentary on it bc it’s hard to find, private property, and I saved a bunch of unused stinking spring footage for a dedicated mini movie just on that. I cannot tell you the elation and joy that hit me in waves when I flew up over Garrett’s ridge to see the faint outline of the rock house, untouched for 139 yrs ish. The wagon trail is still visible ! I had earned my filming permission, and, I immediately took the iPad and flight vid to show Mrs. Grissom who was at home just down the way what I had captured. I thanked her and her daughter Peggy for letting me reach my journey and goals for the Kid, and when I showed Mrs Grissom the footage raw of the tunstall site, she exclaimed “I have not been there since 1956!!”

Here’s a couple examples of SS raw footage, look how hard it is to spot the faint outline of the House, I flew hours on multiple trips to find it. The Grissoms offered to walk me out to it directly but it was summertime, rattlers abound here, so I nicely declined and opted to find it through trial and error in the general location. m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoSDzqifodzFedY.html

SS still has water and it stinks for sure ha. Couple hundred years of cattle and deer and wildlife drinking and making waste at the site + microbes that love alkaline waters means poo water / moniker, still runs with water to this day -exactly- as the Kid, Rudabaugh and his cohorts + experienced kzread.info/dash/bejne/X5eH1LiRebC4maw.html

Hopefully this context adds some background to the footage: nearly all shots are first discovery shots. Not all these sites are easily located; stinking spring and tunstall site and Bosque Redondo and others are the result of several camping trips required per segment. Either no permission gained or failed to locate, I traveled back home several times with the absolute lock on to one day get the segment, legitimately. I'd focus on one segment over months and these shots are my first look at the rock house- cold chills as it emerges over the dune after hours searching, with permission. It's the first look down after grid- searching the Tunstall site and the monument happened to be right under. Nobody has flown Bosque Redondo before or since and I took time to meet with rangers and lucky they let me complete a core crucial filming segment where Billy was both employed and killed, McSween's homestead. These places filmed were the result of 40 or more trips to New Mexico for either meetings at a city hall or for back camping trips for footage + hours scanning for locations. Stinking spring was the luckiest footage of them all, the actual rock house where Billy, Arkansas Dave, a horse, and other cohorts packed in one cold December night to hide from the posse of Pat Garrett

Patrick Grissom thinkn he was a bit of a snobish kid... . taking all the information in, even with the croquet clubs just hightens that personality even more. I believe billy used the death of his boss to make himself out to be what he turned out to be. ... Good story / history either way.

SiskiyouLocomotive that's fully fully the reason I made this, I'm so happy to read that. it's by pure happenstance that I live within 4 hrs drive of the sites, and I wanted people who live far away to see the actual locations the young guns movies depicted. simply locating and gaining permission for these sites, stinking spring in particular, was a matter of luck and blessing. before I knew it, I was shaking the hand of this historian in the film linked next, Mrs Janean Grissom (name spelled wrong in movie). I really hope she's doing ok today, that was July a year ago. this movie below likely from the 90s. this movie should be required watching before mine!!

For example: the gravesite for Dick Brewer is about a 1 minute walk from the main highway that connects Alamogordo to Mescalero then Ruidoso, hwy 70. *the key is knowing where to pull over :) it's not at the historical marker sign thats about a quarter mile off location. its not easy to find, but its so close to the highway its within rock-tossing distance. these archaeological sites are intertwined right into our highways and byways, that's amazing. I was able to locate where to pull over by my friend in Glencoe, who went there routinely as a kid for daily fun. forging the connections to discover these areas right alongside common highways we all use is shocking cultural archaeology in my opinion.

for sure I can recommend watching the movie The Kid 2019 with Ethan Hawke as Pat Garrett. The opening gunfight scene is very accurate, more accurate than young guns check out how the posse knelt down at the tree line, aiming towards the house. The shooting of the horse in the doorway/accurate, see wild west magazine's writeup on the shootout at stinking spring as a reference. I liked its story line, they did a great job considering how high the bar was set by Young Guns one and two still my fav movies of all time. 5 stars for The Kid 2019

I'm 44 and I've been into Billy the kid since young guns 1987 . Over the years I've been able to separate the bullshit from the movies and the reality of what really took place in Lincoln. Whts crazy is even now in 2019 there is the over whelming possibility that Billy didn't die. I honestly never thought I would say that but it's way more possible that Brushy Bill was Billy the kid . I don't get i to why but it isn't just one reason were talking proof after proof he knew things that no man could possibly know unless he had the internet back in 1940'-50's . He never claimed to be Billy until he knew there was a chance of a pardon and he feared for being put in prison as well which led to his heart attack. Pat Garrett killed 3 men trying to kill Billy and the last man was a Mexican dark with a beard, Billy could barely grow peach fuzz back then and was pale skin, no picture taken now that should tell you everything. Look at every outlaw that was captured or killed and you will see a picture, look at Jesse James, that's definatly him in the coffin. And when we're talking money and historians your talking almost a religion you can get killed over messing in certain areas and there will never be a change unless you have DNA proof which is impossible cause of no body to compare Brushy Bill with , Billy lived to be 91 and deserved that pardon.

Hey Mike thanks for posting. that will be an enduring saga as long as the history of the Kid lives on, and I enjoy reading all the points and counter-points for claims of death at ft sumner/1881 or him living on into the 1950's in Hico I just love the history either way. Have you seen the Kid 2019?! its so great, considering how high young guns set the bar (which I agree are top two cowboy movies ever) lemme know what you think of the new Kid movie w Ethan Hawke. Their stinking spring portrayal beats young guns for set look alike accuracy and events nobody really debates whether pro Brushy bill or not. I like how 98% of the kids history isn't debated, only that ending~

@@aeroflyer4301 no I have not seen The Kid 2019 movie but I will for sure. Well with Young Guns they got a few things right and alot of bullshit mixed in between but thts Hollywood. For example the Regulators they made Charlie out to be a scared panzy which we know by record he was no panzy, And Billy well we know he was in a war zone and the only one to survive it and did not deserve the shit he got , he defended rightfully what was his family ( John Tunsteel and crew ) the Murphy faction and the state of New Mexico was corrupt . Anyhow I hope to stay in touch with you I will do a video very soon on my channel I'm working on it right now . It will be completely by Aug end of. Regarding that building: for sure that sits on the site of old Blazers mill where in the movie young guns 1, Charlie Sheen's character is killed. I truly think that is the blazer homestead, not the actual building Buckshot Roberts shot from or it could be an office for the old mill. In order to pinpoint its history, I can say for there are historians who can identify its exact history on this forum, post here they'll ID it: brushybill.proboards.com/

it's fascinating to consider the limited published forensic work regarding the position of the doorway of the rock house at stinking spring (correct pronunciation is no s, spring) I make the case using drone mapping that the doorway faces back towards the ridge and not away from it. Google the classic picture of the rockhouse; the ridge is far away, farther than fifty feet. between the drone angles shown here, and that pic which is possibly the only known rockhouse pic, I feel the case for doorway placement is now strong.

kzread.info/dash/bejne/a42K0LKCd820iNo.html that vid is pretty cool. a typical evening sunset when I was camped out looking for locations for filming. that place is near the Tunstall kill site. at the start of the video as the drone pans around, on the right (greener side) you can see a canyon that runs straight up to the top of the vid. this is Pajarito Canyon mentioned in all the history books, Tunstall event occurred at the very top end of the canyon, just before another hill separates Pajarito from the run down to Tunstalls ranch on the Rio Feliz. the reason this place is referred to as Sanchez canyon in the video is because that's who owned the land at the time Tunstall was killed, Sanchez, grandfather of my friend Monroy who lives in Glencoe, and is a historical consultant I'm thankful to know. I want to -strongly- recommend travelers stop at the Glencoe fruit market building and see what they have inside, I buy food and produce and honeycomb there routinely... it's wonderful. 20 yr customer. when you speak to Monroy checking out, you're speaking to a third generation association to William H Bonney. Six degrees they say...

Movie set analysis/accuracy/remarks using footage here of real sites vs Young Guns 1, 2 and The Kid 2019:-in my opinion top winner scene for accuracy to real location footage logged is Blazers Mill scene in Young Guns one. the trees, the landscape, the layout, its Mescalero NM to this day the footage shows. As I imagine the real Blazer's mill battle, Id pick that scene as most authentic. Second up is Old Ft Sumner portrayal from The Kid, the trees and layout match today's footage spot on as well. -Stinking Spring is a challenging layout we can see for movie set managers to mimic. Its only got trees along the water feed line, mostly its open pasture land where wagon trails traversed to Clovis and beyond a good 50 miles away or so...Young Guns 2 stinking spring was entirely too hilly and rocky, I would vote The Kid 2019 as having the closest scenery replication to actual events. The shooting of the horse in the doorway by Garrett is documented accurate as well online searches show. -John Tunstall kill site is heavily forested and hilly we show. The YG1 version still looks like New Mexico footage but its too flat to be the real deal. Encumbered, they pressed on down the craggy hill slopes towards the Rio Ruidoso :)-In my opinion Lincoln NM is best portrayed in YG1, which if you want an interesting road trip you can drive down first street in Cerrillos outside Santa Fe and you will be on literal main street from Lincoln NM in YG1. the tree where Emilio/The Kid shot the Sherriff, right there. Same church, same windows where the kid remarked upon his pocketwatch gift from Tunstall, there today but painted different. Ill upload vid of that later on so you can see the actual movie set/street used in Young Guns one, which is a real street today with shops/businesses etc.
