Madonna! I had a friend Jay that was a manager at an upscale Hotel in Mpls. Madonna was in town for a concert for her “like a virgin tour”. Apparently she had been booked into another hotel which she did not like. So her whole group came into my friends’ hotel late afternoon asking for the penthouse suite. He explained that was not possible as it was booked already. He offered her one of their bridal suites which was quite expensively decorated. They were taken up to the suite and Madonna said it was perfect! Star struck Jay sent flowers up to the suite, wine and chocolates. After working the night shift he went home to sleep, about 10 am he was awoken by his supervisor and told to get back to work right away. Back at the hotel all the staff was on edge, Jay wasn’t sure what was going on. His extremely red faced boss took him up to the room, to show him the destruction. On every surface, walls ceiling, mirror and doors was written in heavy black magic marker “THANK YOU JAY THANK YOU JAY THANK YOU JAY OVER AND OVER AGAIN” it must have taken hours to write everywhere. Jay was asked for his ID and keys and marched off the property. It took him more than 6 months to get another job. His car was repossessed, never the same happy guy after that. I saw him smash a radio once when one of her songs came on . . .

Never say a star you adore them. Look at them cool and reserve way, say something cold and polite and they respect you. OR act like you know them personally for decades. Stars see so much stupid adoration so they are just fed up.

I was in the 5th grade when this song was top of the charts. Had no idea what the lyrics were about. I asked my sister who was 3 years older what a Virgin was. I don’t think she explained it to me. I was guessing it had something to do with the Virgin Mary. A guy a school just said it was someone who hasn’t had sexual intercourse and even that explanation went over my head.

This song catapulted her to mega stardom but it's overrated in my opinion and Madonna herself has written much better songs such as Like a Prayer, Live to Tell, Express Yourself, Vogue, La isla Bonita, Frozen, Into the groove, etc

Define "better songs". But first check this song chart performance, critical reception and impact in the artist career.

@@DorinMunteanu Better songs lyrically, vocally and musically, anyone with a good ear can notice that, Like a virgin is a great song but still bubblegum pop at best, Like a prayer and Vogue have had much more impact, chart success and critical acclaim

The person on the demo was Kelly or Steinberg, not Madonna. But it is true that she is not the best vocalist.

The demo is thin, shakey, and awful. That's fine! They aren't singers. Madonna's vocals bring warmth and excitement, Nile's production slaps the song into the pop stratosphere. There is no Like a Virgin without Madonna---and it shot to number 1.

Wow. The amount of hate in the comments just shows that indeed the only religion we practice as humanity is HATE. Firstly there are always 2 sides to a story. Secondly she didn't steal this song from them. They thought she was the perfect artist for recording this song. Which she clearly was. They did not receive a thank you? What are you living in DisneyLand? They get royalties from 'Like A Virgin' to this day. She did not have the time to sit down personally and call every other songwriter she worked with. This was the most famous woman on planet Earth at that time. Still is. She is worth more than what you or or your entire family could ever imagine to be, even if given an unlimited number of lifetimes. Queen Of Pop. Best selling female recording artist of all time, recognised by the Guinness Book Of World Records. Highest grossing tour by a female artist ever, Sticky and Sweet Tour 2008. According to Billboard, Madonna is now the first artist to collect 50 No. 1 hits on any chart. Millions of people love her. Millions of people love her music. She is not just a singer, dancer, writer, actor, performer, mother, an activist. She is a Phenomeon. Numbers don't lie. People do. Go back to your holes kids.
