In this mini-feature Director Michael Grandage, Designer Christopher Oram and Lighting Designer Paule Constable describe the conception of the highly realised setting for the 2010 Glyndebourne production of Billy Budd. This video features exclusive footage from rehearsals shot at Glyndebourne in May 2010.

This production knocked me over when it came to BAM. Plus, it was fun to have the company in Brooklyn and follow their tweets about gigantic sandwiches at Junior's. :)

I guess I'll have to buy this DVD. I "discovered" Britten in in 1975, and "Billy Budd" not long after. Tho' I've been listening compulsively to classical music for 67 years now (since age 2) I've never become a big fan of opera. But this one took me at once. I own 2 recordings--1 of the original 4-act version--& have seen it live twice. It remains one of the most moving musical utterances I've ever heard. This appears to be a fabulous production.
