This music makes me feel like I ought get wise to myself, see? Take it on the square and face the music. Maybe hit the street, head down to the corner bar on 2nd and 83rd, under the "el", you know the one. Next door to the German Sausage store, and Zerschmecklers candy store in the back. You know, the one that runs the neighborhood numbers game? I'll saunter on into the bar and ask the barkeep, Schmitt, for a stiff one. Not to tie one on, mind you, just to fortify me and keep the DTs at bay. I have to yell cause overhead, another trains rumbling up 2nd avenue. Ol' Schmitt brings me a nice shot of Bourbon, Canadian, Seagrams I think it is. Not the rot gut pre-Volstead stuff he's still pawning off on us. I tilt the glass into my head, feeling the biting relief of Kentucky. The whisky eases down my gullet, filling my inner core with that familiar warmth. Soon the bracing sting fades, giving way to a wonderful new mood. It washes over me like the euphoria of new love. I look around the bar room with newfound confidence. Drinking with me are a sampling of regulars; Gus the mailman, Stella, the hardup mama looking to make a casual score. She's probably trying to make rent again, poor thing. Next to her a familiar face I can't place. He's ogling her, no doubt with a hopeful heart. His shoes a mess, his suit, shiny and shapeless. Where the hell have I seen that guy? In the neighborhood somewhere, I've seen this guy. Then I remembered, the rooming house, East 84th, 2 years ago. He had small furnished room on the 3rd floor. Mrs Monahan was always on him about taking too long on the house phone. Funny the things you remember.

Wow... I feel so much truth in your words... So much feelings... Feelings I feel, listening to the lady up there. Like I'm in that bar, taking a sip of my whisky, hoping no one will disturb me from my melancholy. I just want to feel life, and in the same way, not being alive at least, for the rest of them... Those who don't feel the music as I am, as you are. In a way that reminded us some long lost life... An other life, an other time, where we were different but oddly, morbidly, the same... Hoping that outside the bar, it's raining. It could explain the clouds in my views... Ho, I wish it could explain the copper taste in my mouth as I sip my whisky... Maybe i'm going mad... Maybe the world is upside down, already... And here I am, smiling in rythm with Billie and thinking about a stranger whom I could have read their thoughts... Beautiful song, beautiful planet...

@@chrisgjohnson134 Billie Holiday has a whole pace of her own that is unlike any other before or since you have to alter your own pace to get into her zone I just love that about listening to her sing I can never listen to The Lady and do something else also I have to stop and listen and merely LISTEN there is only ONE Billie Holiday and she is unlike any other ...I LOVE that The Lady can describe my own torment so perfectly and yet none would wish the life she had upon herself nor any other, but it helps to know that I aren't the only person to have ever felt that way and I FEEEEEEEL Billie Holiday and there is a kinship of the heart that I don't feel with ANY other singer not to that extent anyhow...Janice Joplin is another that I feel like I could have been friends with ...which makes me sad as she didn't feel she had any and nor do I. Maybe I would have felt understood and definately could understand ...both did GARGANTUAN Bodies of work that am still only hitting the tip of the ice berg on the subject of and I have been listening to Billie for YEARS ...sometimes I just get a Billie Holiday state of mind , when I should be doing something else and I hear one of her songs and I just STOP sit down and listen because it doesn't matter how many years since she died she makes sense to ME, and I Love to hear the Lady tell her story and my own along with it ...some people are just BORN to be immortal ! God Bless Billie X No matter what, I could never live without music or words or self expression in some FORM ...I may not fit into this TIME , but as long as I can reach out into the World and find others that FEEL the way I do and write how I myself can feel or sing words that make sense to me I can FEEL PART OF THE WORLD AND FEEL LOVED AND CARED FOR as I may not be understood RIGHT NOW in THIS Now but as long I know somebody , somewhere at somepoint has felt the way I do then I know am part of the all and everything am HUMAN , just my heart is having a way too heavy time of it ! There again...to LISTEN AND HEAR AND FEEEEEL something that I perhaps have NEVER felt or maybe never will either negative or positive is a privilege in itself to be allowed a window into somebody else's SOUL and Billie Holiday does that so perfectly and unashamedly by telling you EXACTLY HOW SHE FEEEEEELS with no embarrassment nor ego nor shame just openly and blatantly lays out pure honest unadulterated emotion with a - this is how I feel sometimes - signature that could only ever heartbreakingly be Billie Holiday X I don't care WHAT YEAR , ERA OR EVEN CENTURY IT IS , what colour skin anybody has or what pigeonholed presumed race , class position nor background .. Billie Holiday was ALL WOMAN with a Heart the size of an entire universe and had MADE NO BONES AT ALL about letting everything inside her out for all to view and hear and I just LOVE THAT ...there are WHOLE EPISODES OF MY EXISTENCE that I simply could not have survived without her, Our Lass X

She captured the melancholy of the 40's...I see the Naked Boys around the Pools of Hollywood doing their Coke & Champagne, while she doing that Heroin & Singing...@ the Sadness of the Country & Her Personal Love Life hence the Words of "Strange Fruit" & "Don't Explain" Those who think she was overrated are judging from a Very Small View or chose to Not Acknowledge Billie Holidays Life...And Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder, " I Loved her sometimes flat notes " Thank You for Sharing her Journey which I feel We should Never Forget...

She was a Diva at one point of her life. She wasn’t shy about her body - she would sit in the dressing room with no clothes on. Her body and skin were beautiful she had no marks on her body at all. Men would come in and their mouths would drop. She was beautiful. I always see her beautiful even if it’s close to the end of her life. I’m too close to her life and death. Her life and death will haunt me the rest of my life.
