I’m not saying your interpretation is wrong but I take this song as if she’s singing to depression and herself. “I hate the way she looks at me.” Talking about her low self esteem/self hatred “If I’m getting over you”, or just pretending to.” Singing to depression. “I loved you then and I love you now” (still struggling with depression so she’s back in therapy) Anyway. Really cuts deep when you listen to it that way.

Dude her singing has improved so much, she hit that high falsetto so effortlessly and smoothly. I didnt even know she could improve anymore since she was already so good....ain’t nobody better say she doesn’t deserve the grammy’s she’ll bring home for this album. She deserved them every time but this album was just...amazing. Edit: To people complaining “but those vocals are so easy it’s not impressive at all,” Billie stated in some interviews that these vocals were the most difficult for *her*. It makes it so impressive that she could work hard to accomplish them anyway.

"Sometimes music is all you need when your feeling" that's so true.. I tried to grief my fathers death, talked about it for years, didn't feel a connection to what I was saying and felt a bit stuck. Then I sang about it with his guitar in my hands and I just broke into a million pieces after the first verse, totally wtf moment. Sorry for being personal, it was just nice to say it to someone. Music really is the language of emotions and it was weird to experience it first hand.

I think we are not giving Billie enough credit for how insane of an evolution she's had, not just musically but for how incredibly mature she has become in many aspects of her worldview at such a young age. When you contrast the lyrics and themes on this album, especially in songs like these, with those of many older and successful artists, a lot is really left to be desired from the latter. It's impressive.

Billie's voice has become more mature, and even sweeter and more soulful. Don't think anyone thought her new album would be so different than the last. It is an introspection with great honesty, For that reason I think it is better than her last one, although I loved all three albums. Should get Grammys for this body of work. this is so beautiful and calming.. this song and her voice. one of her best ballads she nailed this.

Another amazing song. This composition uses a similar progression to the only song I ever wrote while I was homeless on the North Shore of Oahu living on the beach at Three Tables for 6 months. Thank you Billie and Finneas, this is a totally beautiful sound to me.

Everything ab this is just perfect. Her vocals. The emotions portrayed. The aesthetic. Her hair. Honestly she and her team are geniuses bye.

I think she uses that first verse to lead into the whole song being a male fantasy: She's on a bed, dressed in a school-girl-like dress and wearing a 'ripped' top--an abused girl, but she just can't hate the abuser and still loves him. And she has no recourse, even with other women because it 'doesn't work out', and also she's all alone because 'nobody comes around'. She has only him, and that sounds like the whole thing is a male fantasy.
