Bill Withers - Just The Two Of Us (official video)
William Harrison "Bill" Withers, Jr. (born July 4, 1938) is an American pop/soul singer-songwriter and musician who performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985. Some of his best-known songs are "Lean on Me", "Ain't No Sunshine," "Use Me," "Just the Two of Us", "Lovely Day," and "Grandma's Hands".
Bill Withers was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 and into the inaugural class of the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2007. Also, in 2007 his "Lean On Me" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
he wrote and produced two songs on the Gladys Knight & the Pips record I Feel a Song, and in October 1974 performed in concert together with James Brown, Etta James, and B. B. King at the historic Rumble in the Jungle fight between Foreman and Ali in Zaire. Footage of his performance was included in the 1996 documentary film When We Were Kings, and he is heard on the accompanying soundtrack.
Just the Two of Us" is a 1981 Grammy Award-winning R&B song recorded by Grover Washington, Jr. and Bill Withers. The song appeared on Washington's album Winelight. It reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the ARC Weekly Top 40 for a week.
Regina Belle covered "Just the Two of Us" in 1991 on the Tribute album To Grover, With Love, produced by Jason Miles, which made # 4 on Top Contemporary Jazz Albums Billboard Chart.
Bill Withers recorded another version of the song which is included on a CD of his greatest hits. Christian McBride covered the song with overdubbed basses only in a hidden track included in the album Philadelphia Experiment, released on Rope-A-Dope Records. Will Smith sampled "Just the Two of Us" in 1998. This version was parodied in the film Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. It was heard in a TV commercial for Taco Bell that aired during NBC's coverage of Super Bowl XLIII on February 1, 2009. Bill Cosby did a parody version, "Just the Slew of Us", as the theme music for his movie Bill Cosby: Himself.

One of the great pleasures of life is listing to a black middle aged mam singing about love
Such an underrated song only has 22 million views when it should be up there with the best artists ❤❤
I remember my mom singing this song to me, obviously upset, in her subaru station wagon. We stayed in there for a while after getting out of a worse situation. I was so young, I shouldn't remember... but this song has always stuck with me and represented hope for a better life, and the bond with my mother. Now that she is gone it certainly hits differently.

Im 390 years old and this remains a good song to my ears above other songs from throughout my time on this realm.
I always love watching the eyes of these performers because you can see the mental focus and memory kicking in. The blinks indicating phrases, certain shifts in tone, or just simply going on the beat. Its obviously not clear what is going on in his mind at that exact moment but I know from experience that its not far off from what happens when performing like this.

His singing looks effortless, and that is genuine talent, it's like someone just told him he had a concert and he was like "well, let's get this over with" .thinking of all contemporary so-called "artists" who have to make a show and they don't even possess half his talent

First of all, artists who make a show on stage do it to entertain you guys who watch it and critique it no matter what. It's either "oh too much effort" or "damn they could have put some effort into it". Step on stage. Do it once. See how difficult and nerve rattling it is to see 100s of people waiting to clap and critique your best ability behind your back. Then talk.
one of my fav songs
He sounds exactly like the recorded version.

Oh, you sweet summer child. These TV shows were all 99% playback. The project "Lipps Inc." that producted the famous song "Funkytown" in 1980 is a word play based on that fact. It is just not worth going through a dozen sound checks for a "Top of the Pops" type of show.

@@adityaroy7616 I'd have to look into that show. On a quick search I found this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hptl29qLhZm5eqw.html which looks totally legit. As rule of thumb: If you have 3+ performances on a weekly network TV show, then that show basically HAS to go for playback on most of them, to pull it off. If you have ever been to a festival, you might have noticed a 30-60 min break between the artists for rewiring and sound checks. And it is really hard to do that mid show on a TV set, but not impossible.

Как ласкают душу эта прекрасная композиция,как прекрасен и трогателен исполнитель,я влюблена в это исполнение раз и навсегда!)
I'm 61 years old, and I will never get tired of listening to this beautiful song. What a great and melodious voice. He had the mic far away. The lyrics, the tempo, the musical harmony. The variety of rythm and pitch. The breathing, vocalization and resonance! And the sax played by Grove Washington Jr. makes this song a musical gem. Sometimes you don't need to show your emotions when you sing with your heart and soul like Bill Withers does. And I say he does it because I am completely sure that he is singing with the ANGELS in HEAVEN! And how elegant these artists of the yesteryear dressed! They just had respect for their audience! THIS SONG WILL NEVER GET OLD...WE DO!!! RIP BROTHER BILL!.
