Well Metro is officially closed. This brought memories of going there as a kid in the 80’s. I will never forget the tile. High school years in the 90’s was kool too hanging there

I started going to the mall at 14 at MetroCenter mall in Phoenix Az. My teens and early years were spent not only shopping but too, working at the mall. I worked for Bakers Shoes, KG Men's store, Metro Cinema's and Joske's. I am now 62 and raised four children that I have memories of taking to that mall. It saddens me to see the death of the mall and the death of all the wonderful stores I grew up with. Gone forever. Lot's of nostalgia and memories.

Thanks for sharing your memories Jae! That’s great you worked there and got to experience it during its best times. It is very tragic to see it go and you can really feel the sad energy there currently. Glad it was there for so many people over the years though, but definitely wish it stayed the way it was long ago.

Yes I was more of a PV mall guy myself, however MANY times spent at Metro. Sad its gone, I miss those days sooo much. For me anyways they were truly magical times. Long hot summers, cold indoor malls, cute girls, arcades etc. Dang. Its a bummer kids niw will never know that time, I would literally feel robbed if someone took away that time from me. The nostalgia feels! Wow.

I never thought in my wild dreams i would ever see Meterocenter close permanently. I was there back in 1973 when it first open and i was 11 years old. I was so excited about this cool mall near where i use to live around the 35th Ave and T-bird. I spent many hours at the mall with my friends all through high school in the early 80s. I remember on Friday nights us guys would head out to Meterocenter to check out the babes in the mall. I also remember checking out my favorite record store in particular called " Bills Records and Tapes " though forgot what level of the mall it was on. Now to see it gone its like a death in the family. After watching this video it felt like I was just there yesterday. God...how time flies. Thanks to technology of today and online shopping killed the enjoyment and the human experience of shopping at a mortar and brick shopping mall. I hope to see Amazon and the online stores like it to see it close as did to our Meterocenter in the future. And someone with their phone camera start posting videos of abandon Amazon warehouses...that I would love to see in the future.

Now this is a nice comment. Your other comment criticizing our buddies camera work on a video that was made waaaay before we had a KZread channel was not so nice… tisk tisk. That vid was just some dudes having fun… hope you realize that. It actually wasn’t even intended for public consumption originally so… yeah. And we had no idea that would be our last time in metro together. So go easy man. We actually shared our vids so everyone could reminisce. You should do the same with your vids honestly if you have metro content. Put it out there, blur some faces if needed. Anyway glad you enjoyed the content. This vid at least. Metro was awesome. Good memories

@unfazedreview3000 I didn't realize you were the same person who made the other video, to which I still think it was a joke. I didn't like the juvenile behavior in that one video. Okay, so youtube wasn't around that time. Yes, I knew that as well. Another youtube channel did a similar video on Meterocenter but did it with grace and dignity. No juvenile smart remarks. Sorry, I came off a little strong... I was having a bad day. Still, you did good by documenting the mall for future reference. Early 90s is when I saw the changes in the mall and didn't like what I was seeing. Sure enough, it all went downhill. I didn't like the new diversity of people changing the outlook in our society. I wish I could go back to the early 70s and stay there permanently. Though I know that is impossible but it was a nice thought though.

I lived in PHX in 7th and 8th grade, in the late 80s, and would go here all the time! You could spot some SERIOUS mall hair there! I’m surprised there wasn’t some massive spontaneous combustion from all the hairspray fumes. 😂 Anyone remember MGA? That was a cool store, but staffed by super snobby high schoolers. I always avoided the downstairs area near Sears. That was where the arcade was and where all the fights broke out. They had a fake back street, alley hallway thingie, with a McDonalds at the end. The punks, skaters, metal heads and the girls who loved them hung out down there. It was all Guess, Esprit, Benetton and Swatch watches back then. You can see a short clip of Metrocenter hopping from 1988 on KZread.

@@unfazedreview3000 It really was a great time to be a teenager! No one is exaggerating about that! Phoenix had some great malls and Metro was the epicenter for teens back then. We all listened to KZZP, which was pumping out all those 80s hits! This footage is amazing because you could seriously get busted for filming in a mall in those days. Security would be on you like a swarm of bees in a second if they saw you with a camcorder. It was not uncommon to see them confiscating tapes and escorting people out of the mall for filming and possibly getting banned. And trust me-NOBODY wanted to get banned from the mall because that was where everything was happening after school back then! That’s why there is so little footage of 80s/90s mall life.
