The Science Guy returns to Big Think to address his creationist critics and warn against the risks of denying evolution, the fundamental core of life sciences. To deny evolution is to deny the facts that serve as foundation for modern medicine, anatomy, and neuroscience. If America produces too many citizens who deny science, it runs the risk of falling behind the rest of the world in innovation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BILL NYE:
Bill Nye, scientist, engineer, comedian, author, and inventor, is a man with a mission: to help foster a scientifically literate society, to help people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes our world work. Making science entertaining and accessible is something Bill has been doing most of his life.
In Seattle Nye began to combine his love of science with his flair for comedy, when he won the Steve Martin look-alike contest and developed dual careers as an engineer by day and a stand-up comic by night. Nye then quit his day engineering day job and made the transition to a night job as a comedy writer and performer on Seattle’s home-grown ensemble comedy show “Almost Live.” This is where “Bill Nye the Science Guy®” was born. The show appeared before Saturday Night Live and later on Comedy Central, originating at KING-TV, Seattle’s NBC affiliate.
While working on the Science Guy show, Nye won seven national Emmy Awards for writing, performing, and producing. The show won 18 Emmys in five years. In between creating the shows, he wrote five children’s books about science, including his latest title, “Bill Nye’s Great Big Book of Tiny Germs.”
Nye is the host of three currently-running television series. “The 100 Greatest Discoveries” airs on the Science Channel. “The Eyes of Nye” airs on PBS stations across the country.
Bill’s latest project is hosting a show on Planet Green called “Stuff Happens.” It’s about environmentally responsible choices that consumers can make as they go about their day and their shopping. Also, you’ll see Nye in his good-natured rivalry with his neighbor Ed Begley. They compete to see who can save the most energy and produce the smallest carbon footprint. Nye has 4,000 watts of solar power and a solar-boosted hot water system. There’s also the low water use garden and underground watering system. It’s fun for him; he’s an engineer with an energy conservation hobby.
Nye is currently the Executive Director of The Planetary Society, the world’s largest space interest organization.

TRANSCRIPT:
Bill Nye: Evolution is the fundamental idea in all of life science. So if we raise a generation of science students who don’t understand the main idea in biology they’re going to be incompletely educated students and this is going to be trouble for the United States because the United States keeps in the game economically by innovating - having new ideas, new products, new ways of doing things. That’s what the United States produces and brings to the world. And if we raise a significant fraction of our students who don’t understand science we’re not going to have the engineers and scientists to continue this tradition. So for me it’s troubling objectively or subjectively as one can be and as a citizen of the U.S.
I believe, I think here on Big Think that the problem is the same thing that allows us to recognize patterns to imagine shapes and things and routes and ways to get things done before we actually start doing those things that that ability also enables us to understand that despite our best efforts we’re all going to die. And I think that makes all of us a little nutty. We all find it a little troubling. And so because it seems incredible that all this stuff that we store in our brain, all the memories we have, all the mental images that we are able to keep, all the algebra that we learn, that all that goes away when we die is really hard for all of us to accept. And along with this is that we are not nature’s last word. We are not the final answer that nature came up with. That we are not what some entity created as his or her very best work. We’re just one more step on the evolutionary timeline. And for many people that’s so troubling they can’t accept it at all. For me, of course, it’s empowering and amazing and it makes me want to live every moment of every day in the best way possible. But for a lot of people it’s literally unimaginable...

Archaeopteryx Lithographica “Last great hope” what a joke. I actually like America(citizen btw) but I wouldn’t call it the last great hope. First off there’s an implication in that where there is some universal goal humanity has been trying to achieve and that it has a deadline. What is the goal and when is the deadline? Secondly, how is evolution a vain thing? It’s almost the exact opposite. It’s to believe that you are completely insignificant compared to time and space. It’s vain to believe that you were chosen over all other living creatures on earth to live together with god in heaven

The whole idea that the Earth is 6000 years came from Judaic/Christian teachings. In these teachings, God created the earth in 6 days, and rested on the 7th. Then early humanity happened, Jesus came, and after his death (and resurrection in Christianity), our current calendar years started (2018, 2019, etc). If God created the earth, with his endless capabilities, he could have easily created the sedimentary rocks and fossil fuels that you claim "destroys" the fact that the Earth is 6000 years old. Please try to counter this argument.

@Charlie Bowden , no one can refute that because whatever sound and logical argument thrown to you, you'll just tell them that God's Power make it happens. So its just useless to argue to people like you. I enjoy science that give meaning and trying to describe our word than your beliefs thats concludes everything with groundless statement that I can't get my head around of. I respect your beliefs , but its just science makes more sense. I am also willing to change my mind if someone can persuade me, unlike you.

Charlie Bowden, the Greek teachings do not contradict the scientific claim that the universe is billions of years old. So, why choose the Bible instead of the Greek stories? Read for yourself: "At the beginning there was only Chaos, Night, dark Erebus, and deep Tartarus. Earth, the air and heaven had no existence. Firstly, blackwinged Night laid a germless egg in the bosom of the infinite deeps of Erebus, and from this, after the revolution of LONG AGES sprang the graceful Eros with his glittering golden wings, swift as the whirlwinds of the tempest" OPEN YOUR EYES

According to them that isn't true. God created it there as he know we humans will have use for it so its our god given right to pump it up as much as we can as God allowed us to find it when we was ready for it. See how easy it is to justify everything with religion? Climate change? Doesn't happen as God doesn't work that way, he doesn't punish us for using the resources he have given us too exploit. Starvation and meaningless death? You shouldn't have sinned in the garden you sinner, but don't worry. When you die God will take care of you as long as you believe and speard the faith.

There is definitive scientific proof that the Earth is thousands, not billions, of years old. For example, scientists have found soft tissue in dinosaur bones which are supposedly millions of years old. But soft tissue can only last thousands of years. This not only proves that scientific dating methods are grossly inaccurate beyond a few thousand years, but it also proves that dinosaurs lived on this Earth thousands, not billions, of years ago.

The genealogies of the Bible prove that the earth is approximately 6,000 years old. We Christians know that this is true because the Word of God is perfect and infallible. In contrast, radiocarbon dating and other manmade methods of dating are extremely inaccurate. There are many errors in these dating methods. The fact is that we cannot prove that these methods of dating are accurate because they're not.

Have you read the whole bible, what you mentioned happened in the Old Testament before the word became flesh in the New Testament every sickness and demon is casted our with power in prayer, also if you think about why most believe in the old earth is because they have to accept the fact that we evolved years ago because if they would go with the 6,000 year old earth then we would of seen changes in our dna and body structure at least in the past 300 years that’s why years from now there will still be no change And try to read the Bible for what it is at the end of the day it comes down to faith listen bro you have to truly believe with all your heart that Jesus is lord and ask for forgiveness and close all evil doors like meditation, drugs, pornography, spells, witchcraft and zodiac signs so that he may enter your life and work works in you He loves loves you brother🙏 give him another chance

@@exposidiy6024 Yes I have read the bible several times end to end and maybe twice more in accumulation of different bits. To say that it happened in the Old testament and thus you do not have to pay attention goes against what your jesus said in Mathew 5:18 "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Considering that that has not happened you are still bound by the OT laws as well as the new. On top of that if you want to chuck out the OT you have to lose the 10 commandments, original sin, etc. You can NOT have a New Testament without the Old and your unchanging god clearly changes massively in character in between. The only difference is the laws for the Jews vs the laws for the non-Jews. So you are wrong about that and I suspect you might not have read the bible yourself. Thing two! Do you have any evidence at all for your silly claims about evolution? Cause it is literally the branch of science with the most evidence supporting it. Freaking Gravity has less and I can drop a pen and watch it fall. Your claims show only that you do not understand evolution or Big Bang Cosmology and stellar evolution. Also if you have ever had a flue shot you have benefited directly from our applied knowledge of evolution and that would not work at all if you were right and evolution was false so..... Thing three! Is there any position at all that I could not take if I base it ion faith? If the answer is no then you have a DEEPLY flawed method for determining reality. If faith can excuse any answer it can be used to confirm nothing. Faith is entirely useless and what is worse is that it can confirm the wrong answer in the exact same way it confirms the right one. Far as the bible goes not only have I read it but I have studied its history and the Council of Nicea and how the bible was assembled and how often translation errors are made etc etc etc. Know what found? Same thing as when I investigated any other religions text. An obviously man made and man inspired book trying to make sense of the world around them and mostly getting it wrong. And not just scientifically! Morally! For example the bible says that eternal punishment for finite crime is moral and good but any investigation into basic morality or ethics will show that idea to be flatly INSANE and only something a tyrant of the worst order would even suggest let alone actually carry out. That's from the NT just for you ;) Did... did you say witchcraft? Do you really believe in magic?..... Maybe consider reading a book published this decade? Try out M Theory by Dr. Michio Kaku. He goes through real quick in the beginning to show that we know a LOT LOT LOT more than most religious fundamentalists could even dream! I know this because (again) I was raised christian. It did not hold up to investigation and the Argument from Emotion Fallacy is not good enough. Do you have any real evidence or is this just an argument from fallacies? Cause I don't have any interest in the second but the first interests me greatly.

This is why I think that we actually *do* need to engage with young earth creationist adults. The adults are the ones who are voting in our elections and they're the ones who are teaching their kids this nonsense. Kids, in general, are going to feel a stronger connection with their parents and immediate family members than they are with their science teacher at school. When your entire social support group is comprised of adults who read a modern literalist interpretation of the Bible and who are indoctrinating you into that belief system, it's very difficult to break out of that cycle. It becomes part of your identity and set of core values. As such, the adults who are in charge of propagating this garbage need to publicly be challenged and disputed/refuted.

Rejecting YEC did not weaken my Christian faith as many young earthers believe, quite the contrary. My faith is stronger now, knowing that the bible is still relevant and true, and really does not contradict science at all. TestMeatDollSteak I agree with you that YEC should be challenged and evolution defended -- both for the sake of children and for the sake of the BarnGeek 's of the world. However, my guess is that BarnGeek was more influenced by books or in depth videos by the likes of Bill Nye, than by comments by unkown persons on KZread. When one is seriously seeking for the truth, it is quality, not quantity of arguments that matter. Yes, one can have an in depth discussion with a YECist if one has the energy and patience for undertaking such a task. However, I think a simple statement of "you are wrong" is an adequate response for the average person to make. It challenges YEC in a public forum, so that those who might wonder, get a chance to wonder, yet leaves those who are wondering to search after serious sources that will actually actually convince them. Those are my thoughts, but I am open to hearing feedback.

Obviously biblical time is thought of differently than regular time, in the same way dog years are to human years (7 to 1). When believers say the earth is 6,000 y/o, one year has got to be equal to aprox. 633,333.33 actual years. Multiplied by 6,000 = 3.8 billion years. The age of the earth. Which means God has to be at least 13.8 billion years old (or more). The age of the universe.... 😳 ... I'm a genius!

***** You are right nothing came from nothing... Energy did expand transforming into matter, and just because it is unlikely life like earth life would survive in the Universe doesn't mean it takes faith. It is vary possible the big bang model is missing a lot, but you can not say that it takes faith, the big bang theory has evidence in to form of math and observational astronomy. The Universe is 13.9 billion years old, 90 billion light years across, and made mostly of Dark matter and energy (96%) which is nothing that is really something.... To review I believe Evolution and the big bang are true because of mathematic and observational data that by many different fields has been proven. Now to address how what you believe takes less faith then what I believe... You believe that God existed before there was anything, even time, so he came form nothing, he created light before stars, he made stars (the universe) just to guide our travels and signal the seasons (even though we can't see most of them), and that humans were deceived by a talking snake that tricked them into eating a fruit that would allow them to know what evil is and what good is... But wait if they didn't know good and evil how could they know disobeying god was a sin...

Did evolution create male and female? I thought the process of evolution was to be more efficient, not less efficient. So why did we start as asexual beings and then turn into men and women? And please tell me where at in the evolution process men turned into women or vice versa. And speaking of that. Show me ONE time that an animal KIND turned into a different kind. Speciation is 100% a thing and it is evolutionary. No doubt. But a bird does not turn into a cat. And that is all based on the premise that NOTHING created everything. @dolcedolente

    7 жыл бұрын

303 Rejects I'm not a cosmologist, but logic would tell me that even if we know k (constant rate of decay), we would also have to know both m¹ (level at origin) and m² (level at present) to reject the theory based on mathematical falsification. The h. sapien animal hasn't been around long in the grand scheme, scientific inquiry even less. Sampling becomes more accurate and reliable the more points of sampling. My first question is, how could we possibly have the expanse of time to take an adequate number of samples? Secondly, what little of astrophysics I know, I understand that things can get wonky in the cosmos. For instance, Newtonian calculus determines gravitational pull by a solitaire source on an object in space, but meets its limitations when more than one source of gravitational pull is acting. By no means am I an astrophysicist, but my understanding of what that community tells us of the cosmos is that it is expanding at an ever faster rate of speed. If the universe is expanding, then proximity between bodies is not constant; neither would I expect magnetic pull to be constant. Adding to this the fact that bodies sometimes collide, split, and join... Let's just say I am a bit skeptical or at least curious how we can determine k (constant rate). Finally, I am a communications sciences major. I know neither those figures nor how one would calculate them. Not that they cannot be calculated, just that I am not trained nor qualified to do so. It's not my realm of expertise. But, m¹ (point of origin) - as far as I can tell - is going to be a major challenge of determination, being that measurement was never taken (obviously, as the process by which we would measure would have been invented yet, as we would not have been here, much less scientifically cognizant to make the inquiry). Perhaps you can explain or point me toward some sources that explain your falsification process more thoroughly? I would be a worthless skeptic if I failed to keep an open mind.

George Santana Many folks have claimed to have found noahs ark. The problem is, it's never noah's ark. You can't find something that never existed. We have many flood myths, from different cultures, that were regional and happened at different points in time. The claims of a noahs ark point to petrified wood (which takes millions of years to form) and stones that are in the shape of something... but in reality the dating techniques and other realities further point out that these are hoaxes. Most are from charlatans that also have odd claims and make their money from fools through book sales. Go ahead and study the "scientists" that gladly take peoples money and do these "expeditions" in Turkey, they largely receive paper mill degrees and write discredited nonsense. Nobody has found noah's ark. We have no global evidence of a flood. We have trees that are older than 6,000 years. We have civilizations that are older than 6,000 years. We have genetics and can view DNA sequencing that does not show 6,000 years ago apparently we incested to the current population. The math never adds up. Nothing adds up with your claims.

He is correct, but he is also ignoring history in regards to the united states. Before WW2 the innovation per capita from European countries and even Japan was ahead of the USA in fact. But after WW2 all of these countries ended up being half destroyed and the USA's mainland didn't suffer a single attack. This put the USA in an amazing position ahead of the world, and right after WW2 the USA literally not only took the scientific research from German and Japanese scientists, but they even literally took some of the German and Japanese scientists back to the USA and made them citizens. The USA as a result gained a massive advantage, but over time this advantage gets lower and lower and these other countries have basically overtaken the USA per capita again in their innovation and IQ's etc. The USA hasn't actually fallen, it's just that other countries have risen again. And even China today is surpassing the USA, it's a very hard thing for Americans to accept. Since post WW2 Americans were raised with this notion of American exceptionalism. The only way the USA can reverse the current changes and put itself back to a post WW2 comparison compared to the rest of the world is if some country starts WW3 and the USA sits out for a while, then the USA joins the war after a few years when the other countries are already worn out a bit from fighting. Then bomb the hell out of them, and literally occupy their lands temporarily to steal their research and their scientists and at the same time try to also force the defeated people to sign unfair treaties. That's the only way the USA can return itself to it's former state, since that's the only reason it ever got to be there in the first place.

We need a Federally mandated and funded standard of education in this country. Just like income taxes are scaled based upon income, tax every citizen an EDUCATION TAX and guarantee a standardized level of education quality across the country. Then go look at how we screwed up our methods with standardized testing. The ROLE OF GOVERNMENT is to provide the things that ALL CITIZENS NEED: Defense, Laws, Roads, Utilities, etc. AND EDUCATION.

It's, at least to me as a person living outside the USA, amusing to see what religion has degenerated to in the USA. For example, here in Germany we don't have religious people go crazy and against science. In the US it's treated like the bible contains an unquestionable truth that contradicts science, therefore science must be wrong. Here it's more like that there's the christian faith and there's the story behind it and the mythology around it and during worship and rituals, these are pretended to be facts of course, but outside of that noone seriously claims that these are true. And even if you meet a "true believer", they usually aren't trouble, just regular people, often extraordinary friendly, because they believe that to be a good thing. I really have a great deal of respect for the atheist movement that spend so much effort on saving children, that is saving their education and keep them guarded from indoctrination.

Gardow That's certainly true, there are a lot of groups who are trying and to a degree succeeding in indoctrinating people, not only religious groups. My point is just that over here religion is about giving people traditions, provide services (such as funerals) and lend a helping hand in some bizarre scenarios, since the church has still some aces up their sleeve. I wouldn't call it dead, but more of a niche thing. However in America creationist are demanding obediance by abusing the education of children and the politics have yet failed to firmly stand against that, so scientist have to jump in. Over here there's a simple regulation, there are things children have to learn at school (math, sciency, language) but they are entitled to reilgious education as well, from which they can opt out. The religious education takes place at school, but is provided by the respective religous group, which usually means the two churches.

The Bible does not say the world was created unequivocally in seven 24 hour days. The Hebrew actually says it was created in seven "Yoms" (it's my understanding that there is no word for a 24-hour day in Hebrew). "Yom" means, literally, "long period of time". It has been translated as "day" for simplicity's sake. A "Yom" can mean a 24 hour period (IE: I haven't eaten in a "long period of time"), or it could be billions of years (IE: the universe took a "long period of time" to develop). It's a flexible term, in other words. There is no necessity to perceive it as a literal 24-hour period, and people as early as St. Augustine were suggesting this (about 1500 years before the Theory of Evolution, and long before we had a conception of the universe being billions of years old). Furthermore, while it says God created humans male and female, it doesn't clearly say HOW. Why not via evolutionary processes? "God created them male and female via evolutionary processes". Nothing explicitly contradicting the bible in that sentence. Indeed, the bible says Man was created from the "dust of the earth"; not a radically different proposition than most evolutionists make. Clearly, it's very easy to reconcile the bible with science. We don't need one to trump the other.

Good points, although you are justifying vague outlines of what the bible proposes. Because of the ambiguity of the term "Yom", you can't really use it to justify what many argue, which is the world being created in 600 years. Because so many things in the Bible are open to interpretation and proven contradictory, it is easy to rationalize and tailor it to make it work with science. It is also easy to express it in contradiction with science. This is why religion is such a powerful tool when it comes to manipulating the masses. Science on the other hand does not need to reconcile to the Bible, it functions and changes in search for the truth.

They don't even realize that there are other forms of radiometric dating. They honestly think that Carbon-14 dating is the only way to chemically date things, which is obviously not true. We have rocks that we date with Ar-40/Ar-39 dating, which is actually pretty damn accurate. With Argon dating, if a rock is broken or contaminated in some way, the isotopes in the rock will just make it appear the rock is younger than it actually is, not older. So when you show these imbeciles 4 billion year old rocks that we KNOW are that old and the say "well it had to have been altered in some way in its life time", they don't even know that they are only stating they think the rock is actually OLDER than we have estimated, effectively destroying their argument.

This is coming from the christian (I'd really rather not debate this [It never ends well and you know it]). I believe that religious bias should be completely banned from the PUBLIC school system, and if it's a private school, then they can teach that the sky is purple and that giraffes originated in Antarctica. Anybody can write their own version of the bible and mass produce and all the ignorant Christians will believe what is says with every fiber of their being without question. +Joseph Valente U wanna bring the Roman catholic church m8? the same Roman Catholic Church that helped spark the age of enlightenment, the reason why you're able to comment right now, and if ur american, the reason why technology advanced so fast adn the reason why theories like the Big Bang was made was because of evolution, now think think about what David Layne is saying, Jesus used metaphors, well i'm pretty much sure that some of the parts of the bible like Exodus, Deuteronomy, Leviticus, Numbers and others are supposed to be taken literally but they're different from genesis, genesis is pre-history, when humans passed down stories orally, now pay attention to the concept of the big bang and evolution, compare them to Genesis, the first day, there was nothing until God said let their be light, now i don't know how the man came up with the Big Bang theory but all I know is this, it doesn't contradict, the sun to light up the day and the stars to light up the night, don't u think this sounds familiar to the concept of the Big Bang in which stars were formed including the sun, and then the second day he created land and water aka him creating the planets, and if you know about the panspermia (the first cells came from meteorites) this is what i believe to be the time it all started. then the 3rd day trees were referring to plants being evolved and we were created last a reference to us being one of the last beings to evolve. Jesus didn't pop out miraculous results out of nowhere, well he kinda did but not directly, and so does God, our Human minds are imperfect therefore we tend to loose some of the stories after hundreds of generations before they invented writing. Since we got all that cleared out let me talk about the Roman Catholic Church (RCC). do you know what the definition of a Christian is, Christ-ian followers of say it with me now Christ, C-H-R-I-S-T Christ as in the messiah aka Jesus from Nazareth, the term christian basically mean that we are the followers of Christ, we believe that he is the Messiah, the promised one, the son of God sent to us to wipe our sins clean and bring us salvation. The RCC follows exactly that, and organization, we have a strong organization structure, we have our own president, the pope, who inspires people more than 1 billion people, we have a representative democratic like system. so it's an organization that has a government-like system, has it's own capital and is a follower of Christ and the bible. Therefore it's a Christian organization since it fits both the Criteria. And don't make assumptions like that not every science supporting christian r like that, although I do agree with u that abortion should only be used if someone's endangered, if ur going to shout at me for supporting abortion i don't but like euthanasia it shud be used for emergencies like if the mother's life is endangered.

Nonsense- the earth is 2021 years old guys Srsly tho here’s how I think about it: the Bible is full of metaphors. I’m a Christian but I don’t believe in EVERYTHING. You gotta realize that the Bible was written by ancient people (ancient people didn’t have a good understanding of things keep in mind) who simply recorded what they heard or saw. They didn’t go out and test the waters for stuff, they simply wrote what happened. You gotta keep in mind too that back then literary writing was becoming a much more advanced thing, and so metaphors were used in the Bible EXTREMELY often.

This will be an unpopular idea/theory. I was raised a "Christian." My parents, relatives, some teachers, and friends Jack-hammered that belief system into my psyche. No. I don't see God, neither has anyone I've known. Sometimes I question stuff and when the answer is something that doesn't include a Superior Being(no, not the Pope), not only am I upset, I am sad. Tradition and morality is something that is taught at home with family and at a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, etc.-- not at a public school or college. I've been noticing more after 9/11 with many liberal discussions have led a huge decrease in a belief in God. More people are considering themselves atheist, rather than holding out and saying, " I simply don't know." Many scientists can argue all they want; much of life truthfully is a bunch of "I don't knows." The study of space is based mostly in theory. That's just common sense. If you cannot tangibly come up with concrete answers for Science, than why can't there be a God, a Divine Spirit, a singular All Powerful Entity. The thought of "absolute nothingness" is hard to comprehend and makes my head hurt.😲😵If there was something that flinted which sparked the presence of life, who or what held the flints?🌞🙏🌎

Just a couple of things I like to point out to the atheists. 1- The bible does NOT say the earth is 6000 years old, its says man in 6000 years old. 2- God made old things. It does not say Adam was created as an infant, he was created as a fully grown man. Much like he made the heavens and stars "OF OLD" as the Scriptures say. 3- A close examination of the first few verses of Genesis shows the materials of the earth are FAR older than 6000 years. Now this is not meant to tell you what to believe in, its just a correction of the false narrative that the bible claims the earth is 6000 years old.

ChemJGaming I'm not going to get into a debate about dating techniques even other scientists disagree on. There is a level of faith involved in believing the numbers they throw around. I would just point you to examine the precision precision and accuracy of what the bible predicted 2000-3000 years ago. Not only did it perfectly predict Jesus death, burial and Resurrection, it also predicted He would be rejected by His own people. And that the entire church age would be dominated by Gentiles (non Jews) until the end of the age and His return. Here we are 2000 years later and the Jews still reject Him and Gentiles from all over the planet and all nations make up His followers, just as prophesied 2500 years ago. there is much more here than I even mentioned. If you are already convinced there is not god, then take a fair and serious look at the OT prophets. You have nothing to lose and everything in eternity to gain. I didn't become a Christian until I was almost 40. And I wasn't converted via blind faith,. it was a long, deep study of the evidence in the biblical prophets.1/3rd of the bible is future prophecy and much of it has already happened. Only God can predict the future , much less in the grand detail the bible did. No other religion on earth even attempts demonstrable prophecy, much less ten of thousands of prophecies from nearly 3000 years ago. They are all based on 100% blind faith.

Of course not, it was counted by peoples lives from bible or something like that, but where one boat building dude was 500+ years old and so on you can get rough idea how accurate their calculations are :) Bible reports inaccurately on historical events, sometimes they get name of the city right or ruler but that's about it.. how ever is so purely written that you can't take it literally ( as it doesn't say that this chapter is allegory ..etc ) and therefore you have very popular discipline called "Bible interpretation" ( it's what is done for people in church, picking the nice stuff, little something about hell fire to keep people in line, but ends up on happy note .. something about godly love ... ) basically if you can't take it literally and can invent own interpretation, you can fit "the word" to anything .

  • @rchuso

    @rchuso

It was Bishop James Ussher who did the calculation which religitards still accept today, and that was in the 17th Century - in Ireland. It's based on Adam being created on the 6th day, and having his offspring when he was 130 years old, followed by a series of "begats". So, yes, the bible actually gives the age of the Earth as just over 6000 years old.

  • @jeffreysyang

    @jeffreysyang

I think it is because of people's interpretation of Genesis since it literally says that God took 6 days to finish creating Earth and on the 7th he rested. However, the thing people miss is that Genesis is written in the form of a poem, just giving an artistic illustration of how the Earth, animals, and humans are created. To be honest, there is more meaning in the writing style of Genesis than the actual words. *small example in the next part* One example, is that the process (and description) in which God made mankind is different than everything else, giving a sense that humans are special to God. In addition, humans were created last; it is analogous to having a baby. When parents are expecting a baby, they would prepare a room, bed, and stock up on stuff just to welcome the baby when it arrives. Similar to what parents would do, God prepared a "room" for the arrival of mankind. Just a small example where the writing style of Genesis is more important than the literal words. Unfortunately, I don't know why the Bible uses the term, "day"; maybe to God (whatever nth dimensional being he is), a day is all he experiences. No idea, just pulling things out of thin air but 6000 years doesn't seem to be right.

But surely it is more amazing that fact God can create the universe and 4.5 billion years go by and we have evolved from nothing. Science and religion are not enemies but two sides of the same story. Science explains life, religion gives it meaning.

This is the best video I have ever watched here on KZread and it means so much more coming from the guys at Big Think and the man himself, Bill Nye. I still remember the day I realised life was so precious, it almost brought me to tears. The fact that we are nothing more than miniscule forms of intelligent life hitch-hiking on a glorious planet of blue and green whirling around a enormous flaming ball of gas at a million miles an hour in the vacuum of space. There is no reason for our existence, everything we do is pointless; and you know what, that is not a bad thing. It is beautiful. A very beautiful thing indeed. The day you realise this is true is the day, in my opinion, you become enlightened and begin to respect your brothers and sister on this Earth.

"They're all happy to have had smallpox vaccinations if they're a certain age." Me: Ummmm "Or they're all happy to have not died of smallpox, I'll put it that way." Me: Better. They refuse to believe that they don't have it because the majority of people they knew got vaccinated

Evolutionists had nothing to do with being founders of modern science but only the by the Creation scientists. All diseases are the result of mutations losing information and all bacterial resistance is the result of either losing information or by using already existing information & had nothing to do with the story of evolutioniosm.

gog1284 says,I am not religious. You are right about that.Jesus didn`t like religious people. It is about having a relationship with him,not religion.I did not grow up going to church, only until age 6.Catholic church.I had no idea what was even going on,what the priest was preaching in latin.NOTHING.My mom passes when I was 3 years old,I was told she was in Heaven with Jesus.I believed it.Heaven is where i wanted to be.I never read the bible, unitl a few years ago,I still have not read it all,and I don`t claim to know everything. When most of God`s chosen people serve satan,or care about things of this world,I knew his name.I had a relationship with him,so the gates of HELL,will not prevail against me,or any of the true church.Likely not many true followers of Jesus,Many still waiting for deliverance.Still, they keep trying to come shut me up.Have been speaking TRUTH for over 2 years all across youtube, and they come to shut me up.How do I know?Dogs and cats can see into the spirit realm. Why do they keep coming,if they can`t prevail against me?They are programmed slaves of the alluminatti. They have the disembodied spirits of the giants, telling them what to do.The giants that lacked the knowledge to save themselves, inhabit the mindless massess.
