    This was when basketball was the shit. Players actually hated each other back then. Cities hated each other. There was no Twitter, Stankbook, Facechat, or that other bullshit. Games were wars. Players didn't switch teams to play with their homeboys. True rivalries.

    Are you kidding me - No player ever did more with less natural talent than Laimbeer , He could not run , could not jump , but he led the league in rebounding a couple of seasons , All positioning and technique when you can't jump , He ran the pick and roll as good as any player that ever played the game , He could bust the hell outta dem 3 pointers also , Killer free throw shooter , Clutch player for his team , 4 time all star , 10,000 points and 10,000 rebound club - Ain't to many players in that club. Just cause you didn't like his style of play does not mean that he could not play...Because he damn sure could - He played his role on his team to PERFECTION - 2 championships , He also coached a couple of championship teams in the WNBA.

    Rodman, Laimbeer, Dumars, Thomas, Salley, Aguirre, etc. + Chuck Daly's "Jordan Rules." Without the brutal, evil, horrible, indomitable Pistons, we would have never known how great Jordan was. Jordan's rings mean nothing compared to leading the otherwise "meh" 1990-1991 Bulls to victory over the super-villain Pistons, and no basketball player has accomplished a similar feat since.

  • @cdjhyoung

    @cdjhyoung

    @@bmla88 Hardly. Laimbeer played in a era of the NBA when branding was being discovered. Just like pro wrestling, the league needed a team of bad guys and the Pistons were it. Laimbeer knew this, and played the part. Hard fouls, sure. Did he hurt someone so badly they couldn't play the next game? Nope. Did he take guys out of their game and get in their head? Damn right. You don't need to apologize for playing your game. It wasn't like he was sneaky about it. Come inside, get fouled hard. You get your two shots at the foul line, make them count. The only class Laimbeeer owed anyone was how he conducted himself with his team mates. Ultimately, hurting his friend Isiah Thomas in practice, and Laimbeers shame of having done it, was why Bill retired from the NBA. I think that covers the 'class' and 'character' charge.

They made the team because they were one of the 11 best players (plus Laettner) in the United States (and the world) at that time. Laimbeer incorrectly claimed there could have been 3 players from the Pistons who could have been selected to the Team, but realistically only Isiah had a chance.

Jordan has cried about the Pistons not shaking hands in the handshake line for over 30 years now. It became embarrassing the second time he mentioned it. That Jordan is still grudgeful about it, after 6 titles and a few billion in net worth, is absolutely astonishingly petty. Michael is the game's greatest competitor, but he's a fringe sociopath.

    I felt the Pistons as a team not congratulating the Bulls at the end of the ‘91 Eastern Conference Finals was wrong, but I understood why. Jordan totally disrespected and dogged them in the media before the series started. It was clear the Bulls were better and instead of letting their play solely do their talking they verbally trashed the Pistons. Never have I seen a team treat a defending champion with such disrespect. It’s only later that Jordan admitted the Pistons forced him to get stronger, making him the player he would eventually become.

    Albert Sean Chen but they were dirty players! That's no secret. And it's not an opinion unique to Jordan and Phil. They weren't just committing fouls, they were trying to hurt Jordan. There's lots of YT clips in case you weren't watching back then. You're cool with the Pistons playing dirty, but not cool with Jordan calling them on it?

  • @albertseanchen7929

    @albertseanchen7929

    depannist they were a physical team, which was a prelude to physical teams like New York and Miami. It was disrespect to dog your opponent, before, during and after your playoff series. It was wrong and was not done before Jordan did it. Pistons were fined and suspended for any plays that crossed the line. Even with that they were still dominant from ‘88-‘90. To say they won because of dirty play takes is obviously not true (the team was talented and physically tough), but was an excuse for teams that were not ready or able to overcome them at the time.

  • @depannist

    @depannist

    Albert you and I can agree to disagree. But there's a significant difference between physical play and dirty play. But I think Jordan, Phil, Pippen, Bird, Ewing, Parish, Cartwright, Barkley, Oakley, Rambis, Kareem and many more NBA players would say that the Pistons were dirty. All of the aforementioned players had "altercations" with the Pistons that stemmed from their dirty plays. When the Bulls were no longer susceptible to the Pistons play, they beat them. There's enough YT clips out there with Pippen and Jordan taking the high road when the Pistons would try to instigate. But again, we can agree to disagree.

No, They manned up and beefed up until they overcame their teachers.. Now, yo hear Jordan giving the Piston's their much due respect ( after he got ) his rings.. I will never have any respect for Jordan, Pippen or Jackson for their punk azz behavior..

    The first article is not from 1991. It's an opinion piece written years later. So scratch that one. And no, there's no proof they whined "daily". In the second article, which part of what Jordan (and Phil) said is disrespectful? The Pistons had spent the last 3 years trying to physically harm Jordan and to a lessor extent the rest of the Bulls. He expressed an opinion on their style of play to which there is lots of evidence that it's accurate and also had concurrence from other players around the league at that time. Certainly Bird and Parish had their physical altercations with Laimbeer, not to mention many others. It's just a case of the Pistons not being able to accept defeat and the reality that their style of play was dirty.

  • @JJDPROMEDIAPRODUCTION

    @JJDPROMEDIAPRODUCTION

    5 жыл бұрын

    How old are you? I'm 56. Anyone from Chicago will attest to those media jabs before the 91 eastern conference finals. The Pistons were already down 0-3, but both Phil and Jordan took it too far when they went to the press ( Print and TV) to whine about the Piston style play.. The Piston's never whined to the press and the officials when the Celtics were bouncing around for 4-5 years. Laughing all the way. The Celtics taught the Pistons the rough style Eastern Conference.. Just like Chicago learned from Pistons. When Pat Riley got the Knicks job in 92, he assembled a Eastern conference juggernaut with some the rough and toughest guys who's ever played the game. Riley assembled that team to match up against the Bulls. Even more, after Jordan came back from baseball, the Bulls were no match the Young tough Shaq led Orlando Magic... So, what did the Bulls do???? They add former bad boys ( Rodman, Salley , and james (Budda) Edwards).... 3 straight titles... They added toughness to go along with their finesse game. Same with the Bad Boys toughess (Mahorn, Laimbeer, Rodman, Salley. Finesse( Zeke, Dumars, Dantley Vinnie Johnson, Edwards).. However, the NBA coined the term "Bad Boys". And, it was a marketing $$$$ .. The team ran with with it. ( www.nba.com/pistons/features/truebluepistons_110715.html).. Question: have you ever watched those Celtic Laker final series? See, the reason those two teams showed up at most of the NBA finals is because they had the "Biggest, Baddest and toughest teams in the league.. Every team in the league could not surpass them.. The Celtics ( Bird-6'10, Mchale 7'0, Parrish 7'1, Ainge 6'6, Johnson 6'6)... Magic -6-9, kareem -7'2, Worthy-6-9, Scott -6'4, Green/Rambus 6'10.. Most of the eastern conference teams, if not all were not match even with high flying and scoring form Jordan, Wilkins, and Zeke Thomas..... So, the Piston set up to assemble a team to match the Celtics.. Wheo, like I stated beat to a pulp year after year, after year..Before this do over, the Piston's were the Denver Nuggets of the east.. High scoring, fitness team. They ( Pistons) still hold the NBA record as the highest points score in a NBA game. ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/emGmpNJup8m-fJc.html).. Yet, even with their fast pace and high scoring, they could never score enough to beat the celtics. That's why the team had a come to Jesus moment, and re-assembled their style of play to better match up against the Celtics. ..Now, all that I have written, you can replace or insert the Bulls where I stated Pistons.. because, that's the story of the Bulls accession.. They had to assemble a team that could rival their nemesis.. By the way.. have a look at the 1988 Ecf, when the Piston's finally beat the Celtics. Notice that entire Celtic team walked OFF THE floor and DID NOT shake one hand of the Pistons! Except Mchale came back to give Zeke some advice on moving forward to the finals against the Lakers.

    He was a douchebag who didn’t miss many opportunities to share his personal views on those who made Jordan’s hit list or didn’t play the game “the right way.” I certainly seem to recall him “editorializing” on Rodman before he ended up in Chicago.

    Fakename70, *lol* yea...he's a real antagonist. He can rile up the most docile person. Speaking of Rodman, I remember Costas during Game 6 of the Finals in '98, tried to filet him ( and Karl Malone) about being a part of a wrestling event that would feature the both of them. I even said then, 'dang, Bob, you're a real ball buster.' 😩😂

    It's funny that the narrative is always how the Bulls ended the "Bad Boys" run lol. They got old. The team made huge runs for 5 straight years, legendary playoff battles with Boston. Why does the fact that Detroit bounced Chicago three straight years always go overlooked? Nevermind, we all know the answer.

    They got old and injured. What the Bulls did to their credit was really get into lifting weights for basketball. That helped them match up with the more physical teams and to overcome injuries better. The Pistons as a team were a little late in lifting weights and when 1991 came around they were injury prone.

    Again with the "they got old" just admit that they were swept by the bulls. No excuses. They were the defending champions. They beat the blazers in 5 games in 1990. The bulls were the only team that went 7 games with them that year.

    As for the Olympic team, nobody on the team wanted Isaiah or any piston player on that team. That's the breaks. You play like jerks for years, nobody is going to stand up for you when you want it. Isaiah got what he deserved. If you play such a way that everyone hates you, then you should expect to be left off the Olympic team. Isaiah even managed to alienate Magic.

    Being a Lakers fan and of Jordan, I loathed Laimbeer's antics and his unapologetic arrogance, but as I've grown older, I've come to respect the way he played. His contributions to that Piston team was very much integral during that championship run. He took ass-whippings (with exception to Brad Dougherty) to help his team win. He's the type of player you don't find in today's finesse league.
